Of course, libs will disagree. But as usual, they won't be able to explain why they disagree,

just emotional bitching and belching.

How you can read that article and with a straight face accuse the other side of acting emotionally is beyond me.

Here is a link to US GDP growth by quarter. You can see the trend of Q1 being a lower performer than the rest of the year, and it's not really a freak of statistics, it's pretty widespread.

The scary number in both your article and the link I posted is the 5.4% contraction in 2009 Q1. But, considering Obama only took office in 2009 Q1, it's unfair to apportion much of the growth - negative or positive - to him in the first 3-6 months. (no, I'm not blaming Bush, I'm blaming the global financial crisis). Q1 of 2009 was a down-time for pretty much every developed country, where economies shrunk globally, including in Germany (4.5%), Japan (4.0%), the eurozone (2.9%) and the UK (1.8%). Figures here.

GDP in the US has grown from $14.4tn in 2009 to $17.7tn in 2009, which is around 4.2% per year on average. For comparison, the UK has grown by a little under 4% p/a in that period, and Germany by about 2.1%.

But sure, tell me how Obamao is bankrupting the country, cloward-piven, and I'm acting emotionally when you've read a fear mongering article that is taking statistics out of context and declaring the sky is falling. I'll wait.

But, if you read the article and try to set aside your anger toward the blaze, can't you see some truth in it? Think about it guys public spending really does seem to have gotten out of hand and more and more people from all walks of life are becoming dependent on one type of government handout or another. Whether it's food stamps or rent and utility subsidies to poor people (which also benefit landlords like yours truly) or health care subsidies to middle class families that earn a good living to farm subsidies to subsidies for higher education, not only to financially strapped families but also to upper middle class families. we aren't just talking about dependence on Barack Obama, we're talking about dependence on the government. Republicans, Democrats two colors of the same Apple.

The whole premise of the article is that Obama is failing and the economy is shrinking, which will lead (somehow in the next 2 years while he's still president) to the US going bankrupt. What I did was to point out that in fact the opposite is happening and the economy is growing, on average, year on year.

I don't care or know too much about public spending in the US, but it would seem natural that under a left-wing government it would be higher than a right-wing government. I just wanted to bring a clearer picture of the economy than is being cherry-picked for that article.

Just ignore the cold hard facts...

--President Barack Obama has presided over the lowest average first-quarter GDP growth of any president who has served since 1947, which is the earliest year for which the Bureau of Economic Analysis has calculated quarterly GDP growth.

In all first quarters since 1947, the real annual rate of growth of GDP has averaged 4.0 percent.

In the seven first quarters during Obama’s presidency, it has declined by an average of -0.43 percent. And if you leave out the first quarter of 2009 and look only at the first quarters of the six years since the recession ended, it has averaged only 0.4 percent.

You mean like you did? Yes, the economy has been poor in Q1. In case you didn't notice, we're still coming out of the biggest global recession since 1929, and yet US economic growth is outstripping both the UK and Germany, among others, while the deficit has been cut from $1.4tn per year in 2009 to $0.5tn in 2014.

But never mind that, he had some bad Q1 results!

The hypocrisy of Obama. Here is one of them. He called Bush unpatriotic for the national debt being 9 trillion dollars and he was "selling out the future of our children to the bank of China". Now that the national debt has doubled under his watch why isn't he twice as unpatriotic as Bush? Obama raised taxes and increased the revenue to record amounts which did cut into our deficit but has not stopped the increase of our national debt. This should concern everyone that spending is out of control.

You can't just cut the deficit in one year, especially when it's at such an astronomical amount to begin with, thanks mostly to the recession. Before then, in most of Bush's term, it was manageable; before then, in Clinton's term, it was actually a surplus (though the dot com bubble affected some of that for both presidents). Since then, it's been brought down steadily year on year. At this rate, it would be back at a surplus in around 3 years, although I must add there is *some* concern as to the sustainability of the growth in the US.

Think of it like a runaway train - you can't just stop it dead, that would end badly. You slow it down to an eventual stop, and everyone on board is safe.

It's important to understand the importance of the deficit on debt, and the serviceability of debt. I don't necessarily agree that Bush was 'selling the future of the children' or whatever, for what it's worth.

Here's a link to a graph some statistics on deficit.

The big mistake Obama made is similar to the one Japan made in 1990. Japan went into recession and tried massive stimulus to spend their way out of the recession. It didn't work and caused huge problems for many years. The main problem was that everytime the economy would start to improve they would try to pay down that debt which put them back in recession. We have that problem now but even worse. If the tax increases under Obama were not enough to bring down the debt was it going to take? Spending cuts.

And then we have about 100 trillion dollars worth of unfunded liabilites. The way our system works it is easier for politicians to kick the can down the road to leave for others to deal with but the can is at the end of the road now. A politician running on making the hard decisions would not get elected. Nothing will be done until the crisis hits.

The greater point is this - straight from the article that Chris didn't bother reading.

"Capitalism dies as a majority of Americans wind up hooked on welfare, food stamps, free healthcare and government checks like a drug addict is hooked on heroin, crack cocaine, or crystal meth. Obama is America’s drug dealer. But his drug of choice is government dependency."

Now, how is that only referring to the fiscal first quarter of Obamao? HOW? Chris's "responses" are EXACTLY what I

was talking about - emotional knee jerk - dissing one part of the entire article, first quarter, and ignoring/not reading the entire

article as a whole.

Look at our troubles - our deficit, immigration gone wild, the enormous hidden costs of obamaocare,

regulations in the thousands by this corrupt regime to complicate anything they can, including expanding,

theoretically, their control over waterways ...to ponds, ditches, low spots flooded in fields. You watch fines

start hitting farmers and landowners. The EPA has gone crazy with raising money for Obamao.

Think not ? Want to emotionally knee jerk about that?

Obamao's regime is absolutely openly encouraging runaway illegal immigration, and

supporting them.

On one hand, they say they want to crack down on illegals being hired, but then.....

I didn't read the whole article? Interesting, considering I was talking about statistics mentioned at the bottom. Must be excellent guesswork - perhaps I should play the lottery.

Anyway, the point trying to be made in the article was "GDP growth is negative, the economy is in reverse, we're heading for cloward-piven" - what I was doing was saying that the economy isn't in reverse, apart from the first quarters, and is in fact in quite a healthy shape when compared to other major developed-country economies.

"Capitalism dies as a majority of Americans wind up hooked on welfare, food stamps, free healthcare and government checks like a drug addict is hooked on heroin, crack cocaine, or crystal meth. Obama is America’s drug dealer. But his drug of choice is government dependency."

was talking about - emotional knee jerk - dissing one part of the entire article, first quarter, and ignoring/not reading the entire

article as a whole.

The whole point of the article is based around poor first quarter performances, using that to scare people.

I don't really care about your illegal immigrants - your problem, not mine, we have our own issues to deal with. What i'm talking about is the economy, as it's something I have more knowledge than the average person.

Therefore, Chris, cherry picking from one point of the entire article is pretty

disingenuous, and very liberal kneejerkish.

Our country is headed towards a point of being completely overwhelmed with entitlements.

And you can bet that all those supported by our gov programs will be voting for socialist Obamao.

What a plan.

Just so I'm following here

You're saying that Chris's posts were the "emotional knee jerk", not yours. Correct? Because that isn't the vibe I'm getting here...

What's ironic is that Cal's response to someone disagreeing with him is apparently to call them a knee-jerk emotional liberal, in an extremely knee-jerk emotional way.

well, then, why do you care to pipe up in this thread? Our economy is our problem, not yours.

Our politics are our problem, not yours. Sounds to me like you are trying to provide cover for

your cherry picked emotional knee jerk.

The whole point is lost on you when you intentionally ignore all the other points in the post.

I gave examples of the runaway problems we are headed for, and the dishonest attempts of

the obamao regime to raise more and more money with regulatory power.

Not only outrageous fines for the smallest thing like a perfectly legal pond....

but hidden in the obamaocare bill - is a gigantic money maker for the obamao gov - money

for entitlements that will never be enough.

Boy, do I have you and your little woodypeckerhead nailed.

I'm explaining the big picture. The article also refers to the big picture.

You are being contrarian emotionally kneejerky by attacking one point of

the article - that first quarter, and ignoring everything else.

Then you defend your cherry picking by saying that "x" isn't your problem.

hahaha. That's funny. Chris - have you ever read up on the Cloward-piven philosophy?

Ever? Freaking ever one time in your lalaland liberal existence?

And naturally, woodypecker head rides another lib's coattails again.

I'm always glad to have Chris's input. We do need to understand he's coming from a different culture though with even higher taxes, less personal liberty, more government spending (at least probably on social programs) and, I'm assuming, more free shit. Of course that's the goal of our present administration here in the US. It's a way of life over there so there's no transition to worry about. It's not our way of life. Yet.

I see that, Chris, but the projections are, imho, understated, and they will be a

whole lot higher.

That's my point. It's the direction we are headed in, and your own link's projections say it too.

The truth is more like this:

Now, you add increased dependence on entitlements, and the giant

addition of illegals getting benefits, maybe it's just me? haha,

but I see higher than that 75 percent figure.

That is very, very bad. That is what I'm talking about.
