Climate Change for Heck

Recommended Posts

Sir (or Madam), I get that you might find Beck laughable. But no I do not believe he is a clown. A clown does things to get a laugh, or reaction, for the sole purpose of getting a reaction. I do, truly from the bottom of heart, believe that HE BELIEVES what he is saying. He admits that sometimes he might be off track; even speaking more stream of consciousness but me personally I believe that he isn't just speaking just to speak.

Fair enough. But that's what makes him so laughable - that he believes what he's saying. And I'd hardly give him extra points for being earnest. You'd surely subtract points.

I'd think more of it if it were an elaborate performance art piece. But you're right - it isn't. He's just that dumb/paranoid/senseless. He might as well be out on the street screaming what he's saying at a billboard or a mailbox. It'd sound more appropriate than as a commentator on a national news network.

Here's the first paragraph of his latest column:

"Our country is not being controlled by jack-booted fascists, but just like I said during George W. Bush's presidency, the groundwork is continuously being laid to take us there."

Delightful.

Point of difference between me and you in that I think the above is a true statement. Believe from studying history that it has its' roots in early 20th Century thinking and has only been getting stronger for the last 80 or so years. I am not going to elaborate on that right now and all I want to say is Happy Easter to you and yours.

...You think that's a true statement? Jesus. Well, I guess now I know where you're coming from. (Saturn.)

Happy Easter to you as well.

Jesus indeed, your saying to me that having a critical eye towards our leaders means I'm not of this world. Again Sir, my fears hopefully never come to pass (and I don't walk around like Monk afraid of everything...if anything I try to learn as much from all prospectives) but I am not a fool for believing the universal truth that power corrupts. And from the Civil War on now the Constitution's influence has been 'curbed' at the very least.

What I am NOT saying is that I believe it to be fact that our current President is part of this movement. I think there is circumstantial evidence that could lead to that conclusion; but for me personally that is not enough. And as I have said on this very board, the president is merely a figure head...most of the power lies in Congress and even beyond that there's not much that is squarely on the president.

Oh, please. Can you find me a bunch of quotes as ludicrous as the ones coming out of Beck's mouth since Obama was elected? Was Franken crying and rolling footage of Nazi Germany and saying that Republicans aren't just moving us to socialism, but fascism? That we're headed to doomsday scenarios, with roving gangs and militias and marshall law? Was he touting the existence of FEMA concentration camps that the Bush administration would be using to put liberals in? Really?

Are we already back where we started, Steve? Where you can't make a simple distinction between two unlike things? That got so tiresome.

I seem to remember the right - and people on this board - going nuts after one individual submitted a video comparing Bush to Hitler for a MoveOn.org video competition. The video was immediately removed and disavowed. It was a story for weeks, and referenced endlessly as evidence of the ugliness of the left wing. You can refresg your memory about it here. And here. And here. The White House commented on it. The RNC the story for fundraising. Hannity and O'Reilly pounded it for weeks.

Franken, on the other hand, was a comedian, talk show host, and is now the newly-elected Senator from Minnesota. That doesn't mean he's perfect, or that I'm even a fan, but let's get real. I do believe I can talk about Glenn Beck's lunacy - because it tracks with some of the lunacy on this board - without having to simultaneously denounce Al Franken for ...I don't know what, lest I lose my credibility.

Jeez.

As danamal says, try to stay on topic.

The topic. Assclowns was Global Warming.

And without a reference to a popular soft drink mix. allow me to point out once again that you defend the ridiculous of one party and rail against the ridiculous of another.

I've never heard you go on a multi page rant against your pals at Moveon.

The only reason your buddy Franken's Bush-Hitler comparisons don't make air is that the fuc*er lacks the talent to garner any kind of ratings.

ps I actually hit record as I channel surfed and say Beck had a panel about Nazi tactics.

Haven't seen it yet.

But I'm sure it's an outrage.

I have to say that while Al Franken wasnt very good on radio I was quite amazed at his knowledge of government and thought he would make a good senator.

Coleman needs to give it up already.

We look like a third world country when five months after an election we cant tell America who won.

Unless of course, it's Al Gore.

Now I have to address MoveOn if I want to talk about Glenn Beck too? Jeez. If I mention John Boehner do I have to take Harry Belafonte? Is that how this works?

I'm talking about Glenn Beck because a few of our fellow travelers think he's right, and post his nonsense.

Much like I'm talking about the military because someone posted the nonsense about how Obama is "gutting" the military.

Well, we all see how hollow that was. And hopefully, how hollow Beck is.

...Oh, and Janeane Garofolo. Sorry.

Only if ya wanna paint yourself as the thoughtful non partisan guy. Don't I have to take Beck if I din't vote for Obama?

OK.

So what?

Much like I'm talking about the military because someone posted the nonsense about how Obama is "gutting" the military.

Only because increases in social prorams were called "gutting" for the last 8 years.

Well, we all see how hollow that was. And hopefully, how hollow Beck is.

Over the top perhaps. Again so what?

...Oh, and Janeane Garofolo. Sorry.

But....

I'd still like to f*ck her.....

No, you wouldn't. You're still thinking of "The Matchmaker" Janeane. That girl is gone. You should see her now, up close. Or talk to her. She's a humorless bore.

PS - Is there something necessarily wrong with being partisan? We're all partisan to some degree. The whole world is partisan. We have beliefs. But some things are just facts. Either they're true or they're not true.

It's facts that are in such short supply around here.

What you're asking for is honesty and fairness, and I don't think anyone could claim I've been unfair or dishonest in here. Unless your measure of fairness is coupling every post with an equally critical post about someone on the left, whether or not I believe it. Ex: I don't feel the same things or think the same things about Glenn Beck as I do about Al Franken, nor are they the same person objectively, so obviously I'm not going to concede that they're the same type of person, just on different sides of the aisle. Because they're not.

If you want to dig up some thing Al Franken said on the radio three years ago and ask me if I disagree with them, feel free.

And if someone else wants to explain to me how Glenn Beck is right and that we really are laying the groundwork for fascism in this country, feel free. Also throw in who you think the closet fascists are - the people who are determined (secretly) to scuttle our system of government and replace it with fascism.

Or even socialism. Make your case.

And if you want to get back on topic, maybe you can explain to me what the global warming "snowjob" is. I don't get that.

She was always that.

I just liked the look.

Nothing a littls soap and razor won't fix.

Correct.

But you and your posse give me a raft of shit for it.

No?

Jeremiah Wright.

AAAaarrrrggghhh!!!! What about HAGEE??????

Ahhh bullshit. Franken's a hack (as humorless and less cute than Janeane) and you'd say so if he were Arnold S.

If you want to dig up some thing Al Franken said on the radio three years ago and ask me if I disagree with them, feel free.

We've been attacking Beck for what again?

That he's over the top or wrong or he drinks or drank?

Do a review.

Like I said I just watched that one show.

Didn't see anything not true.

Still I ain't worried.

Or even socialism. Make your case.

I wonder why those who want to move more and more toward socialism have such a reluctance to even say the word...

And if you want to get back on topic, maybe you can explain to me what the global warming "snowjob" is. I don't get that.

Was that in the opening paragraph?

Franken made his living for years as a comedian/comedy writer, and was a very successful one. I'm not sure how that qualifies as humorless.

Janeane hasn't made a joke in over a decade.

But she has made a living as a humorist no?

Hence her career today right?

And it's been a while since Franken has sported much other than the bitter beer face.

C'mon Heck.

Man up if we're comparing the two.

Yeah, she was a comic back in the day, and not a bad one. Then she decided to be ...whatever she is now.

I don't have a real problem with Franken. Never listened to his show. Didn't think Stuart Smalley was funny. (Though I know some recovered folks who appreciate the send-up.) But his politics are generally in the right place and he just won a Senate seat for the Democrats, replacing a guy who I didn't think was all that talented. Not the worst Republican, but one less is always better.

I still don't know what your problem with him is, other than that his views differ from yours. And I'm not sure what I'm supposed to "man up" to, though that's nothing new.

What are we talking about anyway? This is boring.

Franken is a pimp for the leftists in the Dem party.

Hardly someone to respect. Let's see, did he ever have his own show on TV?

Don't think so. I've heard him - he's Michael Moo-er without being fat, an idiot.

("oh, but Michael Moore is so educated, and knows so much about government and .... healthcare in Cuba..sniff")

so, it's okay for Heck to be partisan, but for any conservative to take partisan views, that is

bad, bad, bad.

We got it.
