Kinda related, DC overwhelmingly voted to become the 51st state

Congress will overwhelmingly shut it down of course - they don't want more democrat representation in congress.

Well,if not having Congressional representatives bugs you that much, move to Maryland or Virginia. You want to become a city state?

Voting for or against something because it helps or hurts your party is a terrible one. But that's what we're stuck with

When DC was created- the intention was never to make it a "State". Um I like to think a "state" at least has to cover a significant area. Here's some factiods. If DC was a "state" it's population would be 50th out of 51- only Wyoming has less. In land area, It's 68 square miles is 22X smaller than Rhode Island, currently the smallest state. Sorry folks- it's a city that wants to be a state. That's not happening anytime soon. They're the only city that gets electoral votes, and does have a non voting representative to congress.

Oh, and hate to tell those residents of DC who think they should be a state. I did a little research- it's not Congress that can just say "OK guys, you're a state now." Surprise!! It would require amending the US Constitution. Right there, Article 1, Section 8. "This clause enables Congress to govern the District of Columbia. Congress has now delegated that power to a locally elected government, subject to federal oversight. "

Several Republican states were talking about secession when Obama won, hope you agree they were fucking babies, too.

The civil war pretty much put the kibosh on secession. If California did secede how would they fight for it? Them old boys got shitty guns.
