But that's what we're stuck with When DC was created- the intention was never to make it a "State". Um I like to think a "state" at least has to cover a significant area. Here's some factiods. If DC was a "state" it's population would be 50th out of 51- only Wyoming has less. In land area, It's 68 square miles is 22X smaller than Rhode Island, currently the smallest state. Sorry folks- it's a city that wants to be a state. That's not happening anytime soon. They're the only city that gets electoral votes, and does have a non voting representative to congress. Oh, and hate to tell those residents of DC who think they should be a state. I did a little research- it's not Congress that can just say "OK guys, you're a state now." Surprise!! It would require amending the US Constitution. Right there, Article 1, Section 8. "This clause enables Congress to govern the District of Columbia.
