Seriously though, the challenge and the moral struggle is for a crime this heinous raises a few questions? Do we honor the 8th, and 14th Amendments? Or is the rest of American society no longer bound by these standards. I'm unfamiliar with South Carolina's stance on the death penalty. I do think we have it right as far it being a "state" issue. As believer in Jesus Christ, these things will in the end work out because it is our belief that God reigns over the unjust just as much as the just. As a far as the media coverage and it's impact on racial tension. I think Mr. Roof is the most responsible for that because he admitted that race was his motivation for this cowardly act. I think as usual the media on both ends (liberal/conservative) exploited these people and their families to further their agendas. In plain and usual fashion it spun us off into subject matter that in essence had zero to do with the fact that nine human beings lost their lives at the hands of 1 cowardly human being. Should he get the death penalty, if the South Carolina has that as an option....explore it. If they don't or explore it and still opt for life imprisonment, it's in God's hands at that point. I don't. Nine consecutive life without parole would be my choice. As for the media... They covered the shootings... covered the arrest... covered the trial... will cover the sentencing. There were gaps in between when I heard nothing. You? After sentencing there will be gaps to appeals... their upholding or denial... final incarceration... a few anniversaries. That's it unless you get your execution wish. Shorter response would have been, "The motivation you assigned is wrong-headed bullshit and you simply cannot wish away/sweep under the rug news that makes you uncomfortable." He said that those guys are all in modified solitary because they can't communicate with other inmates. It would be like collecting Bond villains together.
