Three mass shooting plots were thwarted in recent days with the arrests of three men in unrelated cases, authorities in Connecticut, Florida and Ohio said.

Tips from the public aided in the three arrests, which occurred on Thursday and Friday. Police in each case said the men, all white and in their 20s, posted online or sent text messages with threats of committing mass shootings.

The arrests come amid renewed cries for legislation to change the country's gun laws in the wake of mass shootings in California, Texas and Ohio. Multiple false alarm and hoax shooting scares have also kept the nation on edge in recent weeks.

Here's what we know about the three cases:

Connecticut

Brandon Wagshol, 22, of Norwalk was arrested on four counts of illegal possession of large-capacity magazines, the city's police department said Thursday.

Wagshol was arrested after a joint investigation from Norwalk police and the FBI was opened after federal authorities received a tip that he was allegedly trying to buy high-capacity rifle magazines out of state.

Mass shootings and misogyny: The violent ideology we can't ignore

Police said Wagshol purchased rifle parts online to build his own weapon and had posted on Facebook showing "his interest in committing a mass shooting."

When executing a search warrant, police found two guns registered to Wagshol's father, multiple rounds of ammunition, body armor and other tactical equipment, Norwalk police said.

Florida

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said Tristan Scott Wix, 25, of Daytona Beach was arrested Friday and charged with making threats to commit a mass shooting.

Sheriff's deputies began investigating after they were alerted to multiple texts Wix allegedly sent with his plans to commit a mass shooting. The office did not say to whom Wix sent the messages.

Mass shooting motives: Weeks since Gilroy, El Paso and Dayton: What if motives behind mass shootings never emerge?

"A school is a weak target.. id be more likely to open fire on a large crowd of people from over 3 miles away.. I'd wanna break a world record for longest confirmed kill ever," the sheriff's department said Wix texted.

Another text allegedly read: "But a good 100 kills would be nice. I already have a location (laughing cry face emoji) is that bad?"

Wix said he doesn't own firearms but was "fascinated with mass shootings," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Police also released body cam video of Wix's arrest.

Tristan Wix of Daytona Beach was charged with written threats to commit a mass shooting in Volusia County. VIDEO CONTRIBUTED BY VOLUSIA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

Ohio

Police arrested James P. Reardon, 20, after receiving a tip about an online video where the man identified himself as the shooter at a Jewish community center – an incident that hadn't happened yet, according to the FBI.

Reardon was arrested Friday on charges of telecommunications harassment and aggravated menacing, FBI Cleveland Division said.

More numerous and deadly: Dayton, El Paso, Gilroy and beyond: You're right to be afraid

The video post on Instagram tagged the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown from Reardon’s account, police say.

A search warrant was executed at Reardon's parents' home the same day local police received the tip about the video. Reardon was arrested without incident and police said rounds of ammunition, semi-automatic weapons and anti-Semitic information were found.

the left took God out of public schools, and put perversion into schools.

and leftwing feelings.

once the lefty judges took funding of public schools out of the hands of the people...

leftwing school regimes could ignore the people in their school district, and screw around with kids' education

all they want.

there are Christian liberals. Knowing God is there isn't a "wing" thing.

God is there.

I think we are living in the end times and are witnessing today one of the last prophecies, the great falling away. When I think of a Christian liberal I am thinking of an apostate church that is fine with abortion and gay marriage and other things that are opposite to clear bible teachings. They say they are Christian and believe in Jesus  but they take sides against the word of God to conform to the world. How important is the word of God to the Christian faith? God says His word is above His name, that is how important it is.

Mass shootings are en-vogue. These kids want to be infamous like many before them. The only difference is they get the exposure now like never before.  Violent crimes as a whole have been on the decline in this country.

Or is that too logical and reasonable?

you have a good bit of the point - Like Miranda Lambert's country song - "Famous in a Small Town" - the refrain one line -

"everybody dies famous in a small town".

The trouble these days, is that the world is becoming a smaller place - the internet makes people who want to be noticed - be noticed.

And, a very few who have mental illnesses go sick and twisted crime to be noticed.

The simple fact is, anybody can make a youtube video and become famous. Or, they can start doing podcasts.

But the few who want to be like that criminal who wanted to famous in "Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou"....

it begs for a LEGIT, RESPONSIBLE everybody-is-on-board "Red Flag" law.

However, because of the left:

I think notoriety is at least one of the motivations for those who commit mass murder. We need to take it away from them and not give them the publicity they are wanting but that would take cooperation from the media.

That being the case then why did you make taking God out a left wing thing?

Does this mean that strict Constitutionalists who insist on separation of Church and State are left wingers?

Public schools in this state are financed by county and state taxes, so .....................................

There are liberals who are Christians. They are a very small minority. "strict Constitutionalist" is nonsense - the Constitution says nothing about barring religion in schools. The school is just not allowed to establish an OFFICIAL religion.

That is referring to students not being allowed to pray by themselves. Or not being allowed to read their Bible during free time. etc.

Public schools cannot, SHALL NOT, interfere with legit freedom of student's religions.

The "separation of church and state" is greatly abused and erroneously defined distortedly by the left.

Come ON, man. THINK.

If you want Christianity in schools then go to Sunday school or private Christian schools. In the south prayer time in schools was at one time very much oriented to Christian only. No Jews, no Muslims, etc. Never saw a prayer rug anywhere except maybe 1st grade nap time that we prayed would never end. LOL!😁

btw, it also seems that too many kids today do not know how to solve problems.

they get "triggered" and can't handle any kind of adversity. They get bored. They sit.

They never, ever explore. They never try any new thing. They don't invent. They get bored because

if entertainment, mostly electronic, isn't there for them...they are lost.

Back in the day, we were never bored. We built treehouses, went to a field with cardboard boxes we got given to us by

the local appliances store, and crawled inside of them and rolled them around as tanks. We went fishing. We climbed trees.

We invented games. Played "king on the mountain" on the top of giant dirt piles and gravel piles. We whittled, read books.

Rode our bikes all over our town. Went on night hikes in the woods. A lady down the street kept calling our parents to tattle on us for all sorts of reasons. One Halloween, we decided to get her back. We would never break her windows, but we did take paraffin and coat the outside of her windows so she couldn't see out. Well, til she hired a cleaning crew to get the wax back off. I think she stopped complaining about us being out after dark. lol

We would explore the woods, we'd catch preying mantises and knock on neighbors' doors during the days, and they would answer the door and see the preying mantis on our heads. Or, we'd catch baby garter snakes and do that same thing. We'd catch frogs and put it in a bucket of water and set it at their back door....

lots of stuff. Now, even with video games, kids get "bored". And some get troubled by life. They don't LIVE it.

Exactly.  Why should I hve to pay for schools when all my kids have graduated?  Should only tax the ones who have kids going to school or charge them a tuition.

As a Christian I sent my children to a Christian school. I understand a public school is not a private or Christian school but what I don't understand is why the same argument about keeping Christianity out of schools isn't used for every other thing the public schools are bringing in to schools. The door should swing both ways. Many people do not support gay marriage or believe in transgenderism  and other things that many might find offensive or don't believe yet the schools bring that right on in. They use the argument that they keep Christianity out of schools because it might offend others who are not Christians.  I'm Ok with that except for their hypocrisy in allowing other things into the schools many find objectionable. They are using their own argument against keeping Christianity out of schools selectively when it suits them.

The real problem is while bringing in all the junk the schools are bringing in the children are not being taught the basics and that is what the schools should be focusing on.
