If there's a strike, it's because the economic "pie" of the NFL has been tilted very much in favor of the owners since the last CBA. Nothing on this thread touches on the serious items. "Guaranteed" money has been a mirage for decades, and there's nothing in the CBA preventing guaranteed deals. FYI, there's nothing in the MLB or NBA CBA that requires them. At present the only player in the NFL on a fully guaranteed contract is Kirk Cousins.. if more players structured their deal that way, guaranteed deals would be more common. On Friday they fined him $215,073.53 for conduct detrimental to the team. When a player is fined for conduct detrimental to the team, all guaranteed monies from their current contract are removed.. thus from that moment forward they are playing on a week-to-week contract. Never, under any circumstances, do you fully guarantee a contract with a contractor. That's just for starters. Between double dipping on contracts and destroying team caps, the only way to protect yourself is very short term contracts if you're an owner. So players can't be guaranteed and have long term contracts. It's impossible. It would be like franchise tagging an entire league every year. If the players win on one end, they'll lose on the other. They have to decide what they want because they can't have both.
Flugel
Where the F--- did Antonio go? He just knocked over the Gatorade Tom; and now he's on Twitter. Antonio you just missed a very important meeting about this week's game plan. I wouldn't say "I MISSED IT" Tom. Why? Who we playing? AB we come to practice here in Camelot! Who's we? Did you hear my audible AB? Yeah Tom, didn't you see how much I disagreed with it? No, AB I was a little busy wearing Myles Garrett and Larry Ogunjobi while you were taking selfies. Why did you stop in the middle of your route AB? My helmet was annoying me. Can I borrow your helmet Tom and Giselle while we're at it here? Perhaps you've heard Bill Belichick doesn't allow "I before team." That might be in your contract Tom; but he did sign "me before team." If you'll excuse me, Josh Gordon and I have a picnic to attend while you guys are practicing. Let me get this straight you 2 knuckleheads are blowing off practice? Tom, didn't you hear Bill say he didn't want any distractions? We're honoring that. You seem to forget the only guy that can cover me is Adam Schefter. We'll be ite... Antonio, why are you taking off your pads? It's overtime. If I charged the Patriots overtime Tom - we'd be way over the cap Tom. Now you got me using the word we and putting team first. You really are F---ing magic!

OTOH, cutting him "for conduct detrimental to the team" voided his guaranteed contract. It did make him instantly a FA, but he had pissed off everyone in the Raiders organization so badly they just wanted him gone. I'm not the only one who thinks AB pulled this stunt on purpose. Amazingly shady that he was signed by the Patriots within hours of being released.

Sure... but there was no need to "collude" by the Pats. AB was a UFA as of 16:01 EDT on the day he was released. I've no doubt that Drew's phone rang exactly at that time... but that's legal.
