The President says we are at war with the coronavirus. It’s a war we should fight to win.

The economy is in the tank, and anywhere from thousands to more than a million American lives are in jeopardy. Most analyses of options and trade-offs assume that both the pandemic and the economic setback must play out over a period of many months for the pandemic and even longer for economic recovery. However, as the economists would say, there is a dominant option, one that simultaneously limits fatalities and gets the economy cranking again in a sustainable way.

That choice begins with a forceful, focused campaign to eradicate Covid-19 in the United States. The aim is not to flatten the curve; the goal is to crush the curve. China did this in Wuhan. We can do it across this country in 10 weeks.

And with enough intelligence about the enemy — where the virus lurks, how quickly it is moving, where it is most threatening, and what its vulnerabilities are — we can begin to re-energize the economy without putting additional lives at risk.

If we take these six steps to mobilize and organize the nation, we can defeat Covid-19 by early June.

1. Establish unified command
2. Make millions of diagnostic tests available.
3. Supply health workers with PPE and equip hospitals to care for a surge in severely ill patients.
4. Differentiate the population into five groups and treat accordingly.
5. Inspire and mobilize the public.
6. Learn while doing through real-time, fundamental research.

Well, our strategic reserve of medical supplies got depleted in the last flu pandemic- and never got restocked.

actually, that's partly true - I was hating on commie china because so much stuff in about any store was made in china. and our trading with them was so one-sided. it was stupid. Thank God we have a REAL AMERICAN President that saw that. and is working to stop illegal immigration.

Actually Cal, I don't particularly hate on Trump. Still gotta bring up the Wuhan biolab conspiracy that's been debunked by OUR scientists. And you're still TOTALLY IGNORING the fact it's odds on hundreds of infected people got out of China on regular business before the Chinese even knew what in the hell it was. 

As I've said 1\2 dozen times, can your conspiracy theories-  the lies and coverup happened after the fact, unless you want to believe in a miracle that flies in the face of good medical practice that doctors in Wuhan instantly knew it was a totally new virus they were being presented with. There was a two week lag time, Mr. Conspiracy. 

As to ignoring history, and having it repeat itself- here's a little nugget for you MAGAs. China built the Great Wall to keep the Mongols out. The Donald's Great Wall of Trump will similarly fail.

you keep believing the commie chinese are telling the truth about it, and not cta (takeoff of "cya") and I'm keepin on asayin that medical scientists have said the commie chinese gov was telling LIES. So, I don't understand giving the gov any benefit of the doubt.

OK, I'm done- believe whatever you want to. It doesn't change the fact one iota we currently have a problem here in America. And- sorry you're still wrong if you think China should or could have shut the borders down instantly when people in Wuhan started showing up at their doctors with what for all intents and purposes looked like a case of the flu. You're nuts if you think somehow any other country in the world have done so. I've never said they weren't lying. That's the point- they started lying after the fact. The horses- like dozens of infected people from Wuhan were already out of the county. Before it was known exactly what corona virus was. You think they deliberately let them go? Hey, put your thinking cap on for a second- a global pandemic and shutdown is bad for Chinese business. When China figured it out- the measures they took to stop the spread was 10 times more restrictive than what we've done in the States- Communist governments can impose controls that can't be used in a democracy- or you didn't hear of doors being welded shut there?
