The question is if Sam is terrible, or just playing on a terrible team?  It's been the ruination of many highly drafted first round qbs.  David Carr comes to mind immediately.... Our own Tim Couch may be in the running...

We had Baker all set up for failure, but somebody went and prioritized the OL and kept 4 superior RBs + a FB + blocking TEs. Go figure.😁

This guy went to the playoffs 4 of 6 years. Yeesh. I guess he completely screwed himself...but still...

That is what happens often when the HC wants to also be the GM.   Occasionally it works out.  More often not, it seems, including our foray into Butch Davis trying to do that sort of thing.

Texans don't have a LB or DB worth trading for -

Obviously depends upon the price, but...

  • OLB Zach Cunningham is an impact player and could easily translate to our 4-3... inside or outside. His ILB, a trimmed-down McKinney, has turned into a nice player that could be a 2-down MLB in our 4-3. Either would improve our current LB room.
  • CB-wise they have Hargreaves and, as you mention, Roby. Meh...
  • Safety? I liked Justin Reid in that 2018 Safety class (it wasn't the 2017 Class by a mile, but it did not suck)... still do.

I think the fans/owners were sick of 0-3 starts, scrambling to make the playoffs and then not getting any further than the previous year. Plus, his garbage GM moves were nothing short of embarrassing.

Well, between KC, Balt., Pitt, Buffalo, Pats, TN...I'd say they got plenty to worry about without the Texans also being a contender.

Report: JJ Watt, Bill O’Brien had heated exchange that led to ‘player revolt’

Steve DelVecchio, Larry Brown Sports  4 hrs ago

Bill O’Brien was fired by the Houston Texans this week following an 0-4 start to the season, but the record may have only been a small factor in the team’s decision to move on from its head coach and general manager.

In the weeks leading up to his firing, O’Brien reportedly had verbal altercations on the practice field with members of his coaching staff and Texans players. Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that one of those players was star defensive lineman JJ Watt.

John Granato of of ESPN 97.5 Houston was given similar information. He was told that the argument between Watt and O’Brien began a “player revolt” that ultimately resulted in O’Brien being fired.

The reports make sense, as one anonymous Texans player said this week that there was a sense of relief in the locker room when O’Brien was let go. Some players may have held a grudge against O’Brien stemming from his decision to trade star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. That trade seemed to be the result of Hopkins and O’Brien not getting along.

O’Brien was hired as head coach of the Texans in 2014. He finished with a regular-season record of 52-48 in six-plus seasons. The Texans reached the postseason four times under O’Brien and won two playoff games. While the results on the field were not horrible, it sounds like the locker room dynamic was a different story.

You can only be red assssssss, for so long unless you're winning championships. He was winning enough to stay as long as he did. He might be a better college coach.
