Ibleedbrown
Joe Thomas can probably have any job he wants whenever he wants it in Cleveland. Seriously, he could probably run for mayor.

nickers
The big question is... Whose getting the gig for the current season...
ballpeen
Brian Brennen is my guess. Some might say Bernie. I don't think so. As the color guy on radio you might have 15 seconds to get your though out. I think Bernie tries to get too deep.

ballpeen
Another thought on the radio guy. In TV, the play by play and color guy are almost a 50/50 team. In radio, it is maybe 80% to play by play guy. It takes them more to more or less diagram the play for the listener where on tv the people have seen it. The play by play guy on TV isn't announcing that Chubb is up to the 30, cuts inside, stiff arms a man, etc. The radio guy does, and is always announcing this a fraction after it has already happened. He also need time to announce the set and players, motion, etc, leaving little time for the color guy to say a whole lot.

Gib Shanley was fantastic at painting the picture for the radio listener. Nev Chandler was real good too. Jim Donovan is very weak at this IMHO. I still remember some of his great calls. Phipps to Pitts MNF in San Diego 1972. Browns over Steelers in '72 on a GW FG by Cockroft. 1980 season he was brilliant too, and don't forget he told it like it was with the Iranian hostage crisis. Dutch Oven
With Joe Thomas apparently out of the running, I'd be cool with Andre Knott getting the job as color commentator next to Donovan. And I can't imagine Rick Manning will be doing the color job for the Guardians for way too long, so let me throw out Jensen Lewis as Matt Underwood's sidekick eventually too. I really like Knott and Lewis, they do a very good job for their respective teams. (Knott does Guardians work too)

Westside Steve
Too bad about Joe Thomas. I can't imagine it would take that much time away from your family but it's his life. Never heard Brian Brennan on the radio. I doubt Brian Sipe would want to come back for the job. Bernie would be okay if he can stay off the sauce. Hanford Dixon is a pretty gregarious fellow. Tim Couch? WSS

gumby73
The some that listen to NFL radio, may have heard of a former Buckeye & 49'ers lineman nicknamed 'Boon-ie'.. Aka... Alex Boone... raised in Lakewood,Ohio.. I believe he's back living in Columbus,Ohio? And knows what he's seeing.. I've always thought he'd be excellent at this kind of analyst job opening.. While Knott obviously never played at the NFL level like Bernie (he did play college ball at Kent State), he also has never been accused of calling games drunk, so there's that. 😉
SdBacker80
Names are all pretty blah here. when he’s not wearing maize and blue Charles Woodson isn’t bad. Fox gave him a promotion may have to open up the checkbook No to Knott though. Love Bernie but he’s too off the cuff for this generation But Does it have to be a clevelander? Or someone associated with the team?

I bet your kids are an afterthought those 3 hrs. The radio gig is more than 3 hours on Sundays. A typical away game is flying out of town on Saturday morning if not Friday night. Even home games probably mean dinner with NFL friends on Saturday evenings and be at the stadium 4-5 hours before kick on Sundays. You also have game prep several days before the game. Those guys are also on the home station early Monday mornings to review the game for listeners. As employees of the Browns, they have various duties involved such as showing up at golf outings and various fund raiser dinners all year long. It's more than just showing up for a 3 hour broadcast. It's a year around job.

WSS I mentioned above how it takes more time than one thinks, and a great deal is on weekends, the timeframe Joe mentioned to be with his school aged kids. I mentioned Brennan because a few years ago, I would listen to WTAM while driving back to Chattanooga on Monday mornings after the game. You could pick it up all the way to Cincy before much fade took place. This was when WTAM held the broadcast to Browns games up until a few years ago. Brennan had 2-3 regular 7 minute spots to recap the game. I thought he did a good job. Dixson might have been the rising star for the spot, but with the troubles he had, he seems to have faded in to the background. At least I don't hear much of him, but I may not be listening in the right places. I don't live in the area or seek out various streaming options..
