◆  The MLB HOF ballot voting getting  RED HOT close !  ◆

The Baseball Hall of Fame induction announcement is less than one week away. The ballot is brimming with talent and it's possible that we could have four inductees in this year's class.

We know that thanks to the stupendous Hall of Fame Ballot Tracker, created by Ryan Thibodaux and managed by Adam Dore and Anthony Calamis. They keep track of every ballot revealed by voting members of the Baseball Writers Association of America.

As of Thursday, there have been 175 ballots revealed out of an estimated 384, so we know a lot more about the voting than we did a few weeks ago, but more than 200 ballots are still unknown.

Here are the top 10 vote-getters, with those over 75% (the induction threshold) in bold:

1. Adrian Beltre, 98.9%, 173 votes
2. Joe Mauer, 83.4%, 146 votes
3. Todd Helton, 82.9%, 145 votes
4. Billy Wagner, 80.0%, 140 votes ?

▪︎------------------------------------▪︎  This year's dividing line ?
5. Gary Sheffield, 73.7%, 129 votes ?
6. Andruw Jones, 72.0%, 126 votes ?  He might not ever get in ?
7. Carlos Beltran, 66.9%, 117 votes ?  I always thought he was good.
X 8. Chase Utley, 43.4%, 76 votes
9. Alex Rodriguez, 39.4%, 69 votes ?  Good player.  Bad baggage.
● 10. Manny Ramirez, 36.0%, 63 votes ? ..... edit add.... Oh Manny, so much fun with the INDIANS, the best RH hitter from the DR,  always an adventure in RF with the glove.  A natural born RH hitter who hit some magestic home runs in Jacobs Field or any field.  Just as Dennis Eckersley in the 12th inning the  "OH WOW"  blast.  So long Manny.  :)

● Voting trends have stayed consistent

Since our last update on Jan. 4, a flood of additional ballots have come in. Now nearly half the ballots have been publicly revealed (45.6%), and voting has continued trending in largely the same direction. Joe Mauer and Todd Helton continue to see strong support, as does Billy Wagner. ● Gary Sheffield remains in the danger zone, floating just underneath 75%.

▪︎  Adrian Beltre's box has been checked off on every ballot that has come in since our previous update. Those two Red Sox reporters, Bill Ballou and Tony Massarotti, are still the only ones not to vote for Beltre.

It is a pretty good cast of players, maybe no obvious superstars but a close 5-6 decision there.     And it looks like closing window for Alex & Manny Ramirez before you know it.   Alex  normally would be an easy pick without all of his baggage.

And Manny. with all of the. HR popularity should get in  -but-  with the tight MLB. voting rulres it's just hard.   Some good players just sit there year after year amd just time out.

Maybe time to update the  MLB. HOF Voting Rules before more just fare away to the oldies voting table.

When did it become the hall of kinda ok?

Yes .... in a kinds' good class a few at the top  will  get in.   Remember back when some really  good  players just missed and just slid away ?

THAT'S  why they should look at the  MLB HOF Voting Rules  again and make sure they are more  fair  on who does and does  NOT  get in.

Now not like the unusual  NFL Voting Rules. where they let in a bunch of players each year.

OKAY now I'll give my soap box to the  next guy. to speak.

And another opinion .....

Predictions

Beltré is obviously in and he'll get more than 95% of the vote. Mauer will make it, too. I'll say Helton gets in while Wagner gets within just a few percentage points, maybe even within 1%. Sheffield will fall short while Jones and Beltrán pave the way for enshrinement within the next few years.

▪︎  That means the 2024 Hall of Fame class will be as follows, and I'll predict their percentages in parentheses:

  • Adrián Beltré (97.6)
  • Joe Mauer (79.9)
  • Todd Helton (75.1)
  • Jim Leyland

I know - to me not one player stands out as a HOFer.

(Ichiro Suzuki and CC Sabathia will headline the list for 2025, and to me, these two alone have more

name appeal let alone the stats to prove them HOF worthy)

but as representative to the group of guys picked, and because im most familiar with watching (gentleman) Joe Mauer play for the twins,

I can say that while he had a great batting average and as a catcher til injury took some time away from his playing, he just wasnt

the fiery leader the club was hoping he'd be... (Kent Hrbek, Gary Gaetti, Kirby Puckett, Dan Gladden AJ Peirzynski types)

Not his fault at all, and maybe the timing of his arrival on the scene to the majors found him on a barren twins lineup for years-

PLUS is it a front office/ownership casualty?

The 2024  ◆  FINAL VOTING RESULTS  ◆

The results of the BBWAA vote for the 2024 Baseball Hall of Fame class were revealed Tuesday night and Cooperstown has three new members. Adrián Beltré, Joe Mauer, and Todd Helton got to the 75% threshold this time around. Those players will join manager Jim Leyland -- who was inducted via the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee in December -- for enshrinement on July 21.

Here's the full voting breakdown for everyone who finished above 5%:

PLAYER PERCENT YEAR ON BALLOT

▪︎  Adrián Beltré

95.1%

▪︎  Todd Helton

Billy Wagner

73.8%

9th  ???  <--▪︎. Missed by 5 votes,  Is that fair or do they need to look at that rule again ?   I personally think over 70% would be fair in most cases.  I would like to hear other opinions on the MLB HOF entrance like previous classes, quality of the classes and so on.

Gary Sheffield

63.9%

Andruw Jones

Carlos Beltran

Beltré is the headliner in this class. His 95.1% is the highest-ever for a Dominican-born player, topping the 92.89% from Vladimir Guerrero in 2018. George Brett will remain the leader for the highest vote percentage ever by a third baseman at 98.19%.

In Beltré's 21 seasons in the majors, he collected 3,166 hits, 636 doubles, 477 home runs, 1,707 RBI and 1,524 runs. He won five Gold Gloves -- including two Platinum Gloves -- four Silver Sluggers and finished in the top seven of MVP voting five times. A career .286/.339/.480 hitter, Beltré racked up 93.5 WAR in his career and that trails only Mike Schmidt and Eddie Mathews among third basemen. Beltré played for the Dodgers, Mariners, Red Sox and Rangers during the course of his illustrious career. There's an argument to be made that he's a top-three all-time third baseman.

Mauer becomes just the third catcher ever to be elected as a first-ballot Hall of Famer after earning 76.1% of the vote. Previously, only Johnny Bench and Ivan Rodríguez made it through on their first chance. Bench's 96.42% of the vote remains the standard at the position.

The results for the 2024 Baseball Hall of Fame vote have been revealed and we know that the BBWAA has selected Adrián Beltré, Joe Mauer, and Todd Helton to be inducted into the Hall this coming summer along with manager Jim Leyland.

The breakdown of the vote has two important numbers every year. Those getting at least 75% of the vote are now Hall of Famers while those getting less than 5% fall off the ballot. The players in between those figures carry over to the next ballot until they've been on for 10 years. Gary Sheffield has lapsed off the ballot, but the rest of the players between 5-75% will be back next year, including Billy Wagner who fell less than two percentage points shy of induction. Those players (2024 vote percentage in parentheses):

  • Billy Wagner (73.8%)
  • Andruw Jones (61.6)
  • Carlos Beltrán (57.1)
  • Alex Rodríguez (34.8)
  • Manny Ramírez (32.5)
  • Chase Utley (28.8)
  • Omar Vizquel (17.7)
  • Bobby Abreu (14.8)
  • Jimmy Rollins (14.8)
  • Andy Pettitte (13.5)
  • Mark Buehrle (8.3)
  • Francisco Rodríguez (7.8)
  • Torii Hunter (7.3)
  • David Wright (6.2)

Beyond those names, players who have been retired for five years and played for at least 10 in the majors, except for exigent circumstances, are eligible to become first-timers on the ballot. A six-member screening committee made up of baseball writers appointed by the BBWAA determines the final list. Here are the biggest names joining the ballot next year:

Ichiro Suzuki is the sure-thing first-timer next year. The 10-time All-Star and 2001 MVP led the league in hits seven times and won two batting titles. He had 3,089 hits stateside after 1,278 in Japan. He hit .311 in his MLB career while scoring 1,420 runs and stealing 509 bases.

CC Sabathia won a Cy Young and finished in the top five of voting four other times. He finished his career 251-161 with a 3.74 ERA (116 ERA+) and 3,093 strikeouts (18th all time) in 3,577 1/3 innings. He pitched in the playoffs in 10 different seasons, going 10-7 with a 4.28 ERA. He won the 2009 ALCS MVP. Sabathia sits 55th in all-time pitcher WAR, placing him higher than almost a dozen of the current 66 Hall of Fame starting pitchers.
