132 days and a happy belated birthday to Willie Nelson. He turned 91 yesterday

Can't you just count down the days in the tread topic?

That would be the smart thing to do.

~ AND ~  In the  "also ran"  in  Cleveland  sports you can't totally forget the ol' GIPPER'S   long hard die hard area here of the  AAFL and other numbers in  Cleveland  Sports lore.   Maybe not in April  but hey,  why not.      How about these not to be forgotten .....

Cleveland Browns beat the Miami Seahawks 44-0 before 60,135 at Cleveland's Municipal Stadium

1946-12-22 Cleveland Browns beat NY Yankees 14-9 in AAFC championship game.   Yankees ???   :o

1947-12-14 Cleveland Browns beat NY Yankees 14-3 in AAFC championship game

1948-12-19 Cleveland Browns beats Buffalo Bills 49-7 in AAFC championship game

1949-12-09 NFL merges with AAFC; Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers & Baltimore Colts join league intact, other teams in New York and Los Angeles are merged with existing units

1949-12-11 Cleveland Browns beat SF '49ers 21-7 in final AAFC championship game

1950-09-16 Cleveland Browns (formerly AAFC) play 1st NFL game, beat Philadelphia 35-10)

1950-10-01 New York Giants beat Cleveland Browns, 6-0 at Cleveland Stadium; sets Browns club record for fewest points scored by both teams; Browns go on to win NFL Championship

1950-10-08 Cleveland Browns play Pittsburgh for 1st time, beat Steelers 30-17. .    ■

Best left forgotten then.

1984 MLB Cleveland Indians' infielder Andre Thornton ties record for most walks (6 in 16 innings)

Wow.  And he was 6'3 with quite a large strike zone.

Makes me think he was super hot at the time and the Indians had no one behind him worth a poop, so the team he played that night just kept pitching around him?

For May 6.

Here's another one you won't see ever come back  BABE RUTH  and his  first  home run in route to pitching  12  innings !   It's rare now to see a CG.

Ruth's 1st MLB Home Run

1915 Future Baseball Hall of Fame slugger Babe Ruth hits his first MLB home run; pitches 12 frames in Boston Red Sox 4-3 extra innings loss to New York Yankees

Yesterday's game was  CLE 2  DET 1  final.

DiMaggio Starts Streak

1941 New York Yankees Joe DiMaggio starts 56-game hitting streak, with the only RBI, in a 13-1 loss to visiting Chicago White Sox

How great of a hitter was Ted Williams?

During Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak, Joltin' Joe hit .408. During the same stretch, the Splendid Splinter Williams batted .412.

Both greats,  Ted was a bit of a troubled person with a tough family background.

My dad told me a few  TRUE  stories about Ted Williams the man, player and soldier.

TW born in 1918 my dad in 1921 and both in  WWII and Korea at the same time.  Soldiers and sailors sucked up baseball news and games any way they could.  TW played 19 years with BOS but 3 years in WWII  and about 2 in Korea as a jet pilot.  He was good at it because of his incredible eyes and eyesight.

My dad told me that he could read the label on a moving 78 rpm record among other incredible feats.  Comes in handy as a jet pilot too.  Some of his greatest seasons were between his Marine Corp stints ....  like that famous CLE pitcher.

* Can you imagine what lifetime numbers both Ted Williams and Bob Feller could have had ?

When you have time go look TW up.
