    Go Tribe!

I wasn't expecting this. I just hope it's consistent and not a flash in the pan.

That was good   - and -  who would have thought it  another  5-0  run defecit against the same WSX only this time they went to extra innings to win it in an exciting finish in front of only  12,405  fans and win it and to go to (9-3).

Next up -3- versus the Yankees,  we will see how good our young Guardians really are ..... for the third year in a row the youngest team in all of the AL baseball.

Somehow they just seem older but playwith that young excitement in them.

    GO TRIBE !

I was at the last home opener at Cleveland Stadium, 1993.

I believe it was a sell-out (or close to it) and it was two weeks after the boat crash that took Steve Olin and Tim Crews' life. Their wives were brought out to the mound before the game, it was a sad scene.

★  More later on this story.

30 years later: Jim Donovan looks back on the tragic deaths of Cleveland Indians pitchers Steve Olin and Tim Crews

Both men were killed in a horrific boating accident on Florida's Little Lake Nellie. Their loss reverberated throughout the team, the city, and all of baseball.

CLEVELAND — March 22, 1993, in Winter Haven, Florida. The Cleveland Indians were being rewarded by manager Mike Hargrove for hard work with a day off, their only day off of spring training.

It should've been a day of rest and fun; it turned into the darkest day in Cleveland sports history. It was the day two Indians pitchers were killed and one other was critically injured, the result of a horrific boating accident

The Braves had three ace pitchers, Smoltz, Galvine, and Maddux. Yeah, that 95 Indians team was probably the best team ever put together that didn't win a title. They just ran into a buzz saw that was the Braves pitching staff.

Maybe the best since the '27 Yankees .... or even BETTER !   On paper the  '95 INDIANS  were even were .... the 1-8 the best !

And we got to see them day after day riight here in Jacobs Field.

Oh god if only they had a true Ace #1 Starter .....  dynasty team and then some.

Bob Feller was born ?? decades too early,  oh brother.

CLEVELAND, Ohio –No sport celebrates opening day quite like baseball. It’s not as if the first baseball game is more important than the opener in football, hockey, basketball, soccer … or whatever.

“It’s one of 162,” I remember hearing often during my rookie year covering the Orioles for the Baltimore Evening Sun in 1979. I heard it later when I covered the Tribe for The Plain Dealer in the early 1980s.

    Stories by Terry Pluto

    One of 162 games …

But it’s often the one I remember … opening day, a holiday in my home.

With opening day looming, I closed my eyes and thought back to more than a half-century ago.

Walking down the West Third Street Bridge comes to mind. You can pick your era. Mine was the 1960s when I discovered baseball thanks to my father.

Cleveland Indians home openers Cleveland's home opener on April 19, 1960, at Cleveland Municipal Stadium against the Detroit Tigers. The Tribe lost the game, 4-2, in after 15 innings.

    WHAT ABOUT THE MEMORIES?

I remember a guy out front of the old stadium who had a dancing monkey as he asked for a few coins to feed it.

I remember another guy with a polaroid camera, taking random photos. The device spat out a picture and he tried to sell it to you – even though you didn’t ask him to take your picture.

I remember scorecards for a quarter, and you got a free golf pencil. I remember the smell of hot dogs on the grill and the unofficial parade of fans, most of them wearing some form of red, white and blue.

I remember the field. This was a black & white, three-channel TV world. We snaked our way up those old ramps and suddenly saw it ... that huge field with the greenest grass in the world and blue Lake Erie beyond the bleachers

totally sucks - wishing Bieber a quick recovery and continued career

dont know about it being here next year though

How true !  I've seen early numbers like 16 months .....  can you believe that !

They say Shane is a tough guy  we'll see how he handles his  TJ surgery and that long tough rehab.

    Good luck Shane.    ;)

feel your pain man.The reds swung for the fences in trading for Noelvi Marte 2 years ago. busted for ped's out for 80 games.

He is the Cleveland #1 pitcher no doubt  but it's nrext man up time.

This is a good very young team with a good new manager so we get to see what happens next.  Beiber was the #1 loss stopper too.

    GO TRIBE !

  12. ▪︎  From The TRIBE BOARD, More bad news - Shane Beiber OUT for year, elbow surgery ... OMG !

Check out the  other  big Cleveland (6-2) sport in town our  GUARDIANS who started out hot so far.

But more injury bad news .... Shane Beiber OUT for year, elbow surgery ... OMG !

    What else can happen ?

But this is a tough young team.  Come over and visit us once in awhile.

GO BROWNS, GO CAVS  &  GO GUARDIANS !

  13. ▪︎     So what do you all think about our  "patched-together"   relief squad of pitchers ?   Besides Clase .....  just good ennough for now ?   Whatever ?

[ NOTE ]  The below list and explanations were put out just before the season started.   They are  (6-2) now,  Clase has 3 saves,  whoa !

Relief pitchers (8): Emmanuel Clase, Scott Barlow, Eli Morgan, Nick Sandlin, Tim Herrin, Hunter Gaddis, Tyler Beede, Cade Smith
The club lost Xzavion Curry and Ben Lively for a while due to the virus that spread through the clubhouse, which put them too far behind to be ready by Opening Day. Sam Hentges was slowed by a swollen middle finger on his throwing hand and is working his way back now. Trevor Stephan has to undergo elbow surgery this month and has no return date in sight. James Karinchak is still building up after reporting to camp with right shoulder fatigue. This meant the Guardians needed other guys to step up.

Gaddis was excellent this spring, while Beede will provide some much-needed length and Herrin started pounding the strike zone as spring camp progressed. The Guardians sat down with Smith and let him know that he’s done everything right to earn his spot on this team, but Cleveland will need to figure out how best to use him and everyone else in the 'pen.
