  1. As I understand it...this place is going away for good very soon.

My screen name should go back to Zerovoltz before this place shuts out the lights.

If not, the Browns will be cursed!........well even more than they already are!

....stuff like this is why you guys can't have a winner....

  2. I expect TV ratings from Cleveland to be through the roof this weekend for the AFCCG featuring the good football team in Ohio, and the best QB in the NFL, hosting the AFCCG for the 4th year in a row.  Seems like some compelling storylines there that Cleveland folks might find interesting.

    Watching NFL Gameday.

@Pat Mahomo  Coach Mooch talking about Chris Jones being parked on the edge as a net negative for the Chiefs defense who is, according to the stats just posted, worst in the NFL in scoring allowed.

Remember when I mentioned Jonesy being slid outside and teams finding ways to attack that size on the perimeter?  I was a month ahead of you and this broadcast.   And I'm STILL waiting for your explanation on how that was a net positive.

    #YesImPetty

Signing Jarran Reed was supposed to make the line overall better.  Ried has been a total non factor.  Jones has been both hurt, and ineffective at edge.  He'll be back insisde soon.

yeah, i have to agree with you at this point.....harrison getting thrown out did not help yesterday....but that is the coach woods responsiblity when it comes to stuff like that...what bothered me most is they did not have any game plan for pm....they should know that he steps up in the pocket alot when he makes his throws or scrambles....aside from garretts sack in the fourth qtr, it seemed we just kept over running the pass rush right by him....cmon guys watch the game film...someone needs to be in front of him at all times to at least try to contain him.....that is on woods also......

Just noting the pass rush.....In the past, going back to 2018, KC has their OT by design....set up to cover the inside move and then ride the pass rushers around to the back....with the idea Mahomes would step up and/or out to the side as the tackles safely guide the edge rushers to the rear.  This worked spectacularly well in 2018, when KC still had Mitch Morse at C...after he left in FA, in 2019, this still worked, but not as well because the tackles still did their jobs well, but the interior O linemen, especially C Austin Rieter (a former brown) could not block well.  In 2020 it was worse as Laurant Dueverney Tardiff opted otu for Covid..and then we started getting hit with injuries.  ....I wouldn't be discouraged by your edge rushers....but too often either your edge guys got ran around to the rear by design..AND...the important part...the Chiefs IOL were able to hold together so Mahomes in fact had a place to step up to or step out.  I am NOT diminishing your D line...I was impressed by the whole thing...we had a hard time running for the most part.  ...I would say that the new KC line, produced a VAST improvement here...having the ability to keep the space in teh middle open for mahomes to move to.  The times when the Cleveland rush did get Mahomes...it was when he kept drifting farther back....due to the interior space not being available.  You guys are going to have ALOT of success against lessor lines and QB's.

The half miracle half skill bomb to Tyreek.

Browns in their dime look 2 high shift.

    -------------------------------------   The "shift"

boundary safety inverts in a cover 6 to take away Kelce.   I'm sure, without having read the posts, there are several well known whiny bitches about Woods on this board who complained.  Well this is an adjustment that worked.   The invert takes away Mahomes primary.  Which is kelce on the out from the #2.  KC LOVES running out breaking patterns with him to the boundary and they scored on one earlier.  This was Wood's adjustment/answer to that.

You'll notice coverage being "married" (as Romo says) to the pass rush.  Instead of Mahomes being able to stand and deliver or at worst find his #2, he is now forced to escape and buy whatever time he can with his legs.

    ----------------------------------

This is Mahomes, running for dear life and using every bit of his god-given arm strength to Brett Farve this ball downfield and inside.   Keep in mind, the offensive holding call on Tyreek earlier.  It was almost the exact same play design except Mahomes flushed back further behind the line.   It's almost like he hasn't met a threw he doesn't like.   But I guess when you're that talented you can get away with it on occasion.  The first one was almost picked, so please don't forget that.

    ---------------------   The bomb

Mahomes has ZERO choice but to put this back towards interior of the field.  Why? Because Johnny J beat Tyreek to the outside and with the "flow" of the escaping QB.   Football 101, NEVER Throw back across to the interior of the field.   Where there are execptions to every rule and Mahomes just so happens to be that exception.  If this is Big Ben it's a throw away, if it's Lamar it's a throw away, if it's Joey Buckets it's a throw away.  Mahomes might be the only QB in the NFL capable enough of making this throw but having a couple receivers who can actually adjust.

When you're facing any "normal" QB, Johnny J played it right 99.9% of the time.  And if it's put outside as most QB's would attempt, then he gets a pick in his first career game in CLE.

But it wasn't, because he had the misfortune of going against probably the most lethal QB/WR combo in the NFL.    It's a fluky, lucky, incredibly stupid yet amazingly talented play.   So as I said earlier, you really just have to shake your head.  Because you SHOULDN'T see this sort of thing and outside of these two, you really don't at any level.

JJ3 didn't get "toasted", "torched", "burned" or whatever stupid fucking adjective you'd like to toss out there.  He put himself in great position and Tyreek just made an all-pro play. You win some, like we did earlier forcing the near INT - and you lose some.... like this.   Nothing more, nothing less.

    Catch.thumb.jpg.29b2a9f18b7b629f943282879de4d276.jpg

Now, has anyone besides myself put in the work to further understand the nuances to what we saw with the coverage, pass rush and alignments we saw on defense?    Or are you still firing from the hip and pretending to know what you're talking about?

This is a great breakdown of this play....There is an element of luck AND controlled chaos here.   KC designs plays to get Hill VS 1 guy and heading to space and Mahomes will chuck it in a general direction where he thinks Hill can run under it.  An example would be the Jet Chip Wasp play they ran VS the niners in the Super Bowl....not really a specific precise route by Hill..but designed to get the safety to bite on the TE and then you just throw to the general area.

  5. I did have a bet on the game..and I lost that.

Cleveland had a great gameplan....run at our smallish interior line....use play action....very very effective.  Mayfield looked great.  your run game was rolling.

Cleveland is the team that is kind of zigging when everyone else is zagging....KC is NOT equipped this year to handle a strong run oriented team with a mauling line.  Last year we had Mike Pennel in the middle...he isn't much to talk about, but on KC's line, he was a key piece that helped stop the run because he was big and hard to move.  KC is tarting Tershawn Wharton at DT...the dude is 250.  KC is built to get a lead and rush the passer.  Not, to get behind and have to endure a mauling like that.  perfect plan.

I won't even say missing honeybadger had anything to do with it...that would have went pretty much the same as it did VS our D-line.

Our new O line was OK...seemed like the interior guys did allright.  Garrett was getting around Orlando Brown all game....which was still OK because Mahomes kept stepping up until that sack late in the game.

All in all...Cleveland had a couple of BACK BREAKING mistakes....and it cost you all in the end.

A couple things to consider...when you play Mahomes....you gotta be focused...KC is never out of a game as long as he's the QB.  You had us....and then suddenly, you didn't.

I watched all of the Buffalo / Pittsburg game today.  I bet many of you did also.  The Bills O line SUCKS.  The Bills D is allright but they couldn't get to big Ben.  Before the season, I would have had it in the AFC.

    1. KC

    2. Buff

    3. Cleveland.

After today...I'd put Cleveland at 2 (and would be at 1 if you won, but now KC has a very important tie breaker)  and you all are solidly no.2.

I am really looking forward to seeing what you guys look like against a more stout D line than what we roll out there with.

On a final note....I didn't see who won the toss today, but normally I am very happy to see KC kick first to get that important second half kick.....I think KC should reconsider that strategy given the design of our D.....we need to be playing from out in front...and maybe taking opening kicks and putting up the first 7 might have been better, especially VS Cleveland.

    Your team is impressive.

Alright Chief, so since the Browns will not enjoy Sunday, what's the score going to be?

And you saying you didnt visit Bucs forum post SB, does that mean that if a once in a lifetime miracle happens and the "not as good as think" Browns win, you going to show up here?

P.S.- you absolutely will lose a lot of arguments here if you want to discuss the game of football. So you come just to talk trash. That could end up being dumb, but trying to match wits with some of the fine people on here and you will get humiliated

    I've been here for 3 years.  ....anyhow....final score....KC 38, Cleveland 17.  Regardless of outcome, I'll be around.

If these individual QB stars are so meaningful can you explain why you didn’t win the Superbowl?

Yes....even as great as Mahomes is....he isn't effective when when he has a 2nd string LT, a 3rd string LG, the worst starting C in the NFL, a 2nd string G and a 3rd string RT play VS the best front 4.  It is afterall, still a team game...and when you are down to the garbage heap for starting O linemen....your team is in trouble.

*in the tune of the Jetsons*

    - Box counts - they're a thing now.

Box stats always need context.....and the context of this was KC was up 19-3 with Mahomes driving deep into cleveland territory, we had dominated the game in yards and were about to put more points on teh board.....Mahomes got a concussion, we kicked a field goal...and then you guys tried to rally late and couldn't do it.  You mounted 300 yards of offense for the game.  Taht wasn't good enough to beat 3 quarters of mahomes and a little more than a quarter of awful chad henne.  You also played the NFC East last year and went 4-0 in those games with a plus 44 Point differential..  you were 7-5 VS everyone else with a -11 differential.  You aren't as great as yhou think you are.

Um Mahomes is one of the more mobile QBs in the NFL- and no one here is saying he's not a great QB either.  Only argument is if him or Rodgers are #1.

So your OL looks better in preseason playing against vanilla defenses?  Where a lot of teams weren't even playing their defensive starters?   It gets real on Sunday.

    1.  My point about Mahomes sacks is to demonstrate that with a very average to below average line, Mahomes was hard to sack.  I keep hearing from you guys that Myles garrett....and.............Javon Clowney are going to crush him.  Highly unlikely even before the Chiefs upgraded the line...and now less likely.

    2.  KC played starters A LOT more than most NFL teams did this preseason and they logged alot of tme VS other teams starters...granted there was alot of vanilla, like there always is in preseason games....but here are some things to look at and ponder.....

I don't know about stealing, but fumbling the ball out of bounds in the end zone is a shit rule.  I can live with if it goes all they way past the end line.

.....that was a tough break...but it wasn't the game.....for F***s sake....you guys put up 300 total yards of offesne, and we out rushed your vaunted running game.  you were 3/3 on 4th down and STILL compiled only 300 yards.

  11. Mayfield was sacked 26 times last year behind the "top rated" pass protection line in the NFL.  Mahomes was sacked 22 times behind a line that even when healthy, was ranked only as a mediocre pass protection unit last year.

Mahomes is hard to sack even when his line is MEH.

The line he has now.....I've seen it in preseason....but even if you or I never saw it together at all thus far....it would be a fairly safe assumption to say this is the best line Mahomes has had since he''s been in KC.  I HAVE seen it in preseason.....it IS much better.  I won't convince you because I have what must certainly be a clear KC bias...but you aren't going to be in for a good day this Sunday.

Also.....Watch for some crazy formations....Don't be surprised if KC throws out some 3 TE sets at you that that they pass out of.

we couldn't stop them because of secondary play. and our lb's couldn't cover Kelce all game long. Kelce alone had 8 receptions for 109 yards, one TD.

safety play...lacking. LB play...lacking. Hill was 8 completions for 110 yards.

Pass defense is fixed now.  I don't expect Mahomes will be able to play easy pitch and catch with those two again.

and the Browns offense will be far more able to fool defenses - more tricks up their sleeve. It would be great if Schwartz can make a bit of a difference here and there. I'll be looking for a TD throw to Schwartz on the crossing patterns the first game.

Too many teams have been able to throw against the Browns weak pass defense for too long.

Not any more I don't think, barring injuries. We'll see.

I keep seeing this all over the place here.  "Pass defense is fixed"  .....Ok.  It's fixed....   So is KC's oline.
