I feel ya Neo. Back in the day, (like 5yrs ago) it was always fun to log on here and talk football, make some jokes, bust some balls, get your balls busted and overall just have a good time.... Now? It's just a microcosm of life on this planet as we know it in 2024. Toxic, hardline and really just not a lot of fun to be a part of. As in real life it's the loud minority that ruins it for me.

^ But with all my crying and whining being said, there are still a lot of people who are fun to interact with and follow and I am trying to do a much better job of focusing on them while ignoring the few others.... not easy, but I'm getting a little better at it.

You have always been fun in here.  How about that walk off ball bust announcing you were going to Australia for a very important wedding and "try not to kill each other while I'm gone." There's still a lot of really good fans like you with a sense of humor that are here for all the right reasons.

Here's the thing, it's always dead in here from about 3 weeks after the draft until training camp.  We'll start to post some stuff we can talk about and interact with each other over real soon leading up to training camp.

Given that yeah.. He's improved his throwing but his mechanics are still ugly. But then Bernie Kosar wasn't exactly the model standard at QB other than being a tall , gangly pocket passer who had pizza feet... I always thought they should use LJ like the 9er's use Deebo Samuel.. He has that kind of quickness and elusive ability with speed... Trying to tackle LJ is like trying to wrap your arms around a buttered noodle...

Yeah, very tough to tackle.  I remembered watching him a few times during the year he won the Heisman.  I didn't see him running a lot at all; and I dare say I was impressed with his passing (at least for the college level). When they weren't on television, most of his highlights were well thrown TD passes.

I knew it was time to give up my Honda VFR 800 when I was having too much fun passing people going well past 100mph at 67+ years old. Even though my reflexes were still good because of racquetball, it really was too dangerous. Especially when the cop giving me a warning ticket for exceeding the speed limit on the access road, reckless endangerment and cutting in over the double yellow line to beat him going into the on ramp said as he handed my the ticket, "Do you always ride this thing like that?" I just grinned, thanked him for cutting me the break and said, "No, but it's such a hot day I was just cooking back there in leathers going 55 and decided to go around all of you on the access road. I just didn't know it was you they were afraid to pass and keeping everyone so slow on a 100F plus day." It was time but I sure do miss it just as much as I miss skydiving. You can't beat either for the thrills!!😁🙀

Back then Jolt Cola was still on the market; but it's good to see you never needed it Aggies!

While I agree with your assessment... The Ravens are only as good as LJ's porcelain legs.. LJ isn't getting any younger... Tyler Huntley (Now with the Browns) was the closest thing to LJ they had in terms of athleticism... "Just the facts Ma'am".. As Harry Morgan would quip on Dragnet...

Porcelain  🤣.  Yeah, he does have a tendency to get injured with that style of play; but that guy effortlessly outruns anyone/everyone.  Now I know why he refused to run the 40 yard dash before he was drafted. He prolly felt like nobody would have ever considered letting him play QB.

What a fucking trash article from DBN. Which is strangely the norm for them anymore.

Henry now has a good IOL in front of him and a QB centric running game that works to eliminate any numbers advantage a defense might throw at it.   If he stays healthy, it is absolutely a problem.

Indeed - thank you for pointing that out T!   Try to think back to Steve (Air) McNair and Eddie George teaming up for the Titans.  Talk about "Remember the Titans" - the ONLY team that could matchup with them was Baltimore.  They had a killer good IDL; ideal edge rush; Ray Lewis in the Middle; and Ed Reed as the leader of a great secondary.  Most of all?  They tackled extremely well.

The Rats are going to be a tough challenge for everyone.  There's ZERO margin of error if you want to beat them.  In addition to LJ and Henry - 1 guy that kills this team is their TE Mark Andrews.  BTW, his backup TE Isaiah Likely is very productive whenever he fills in.  Now they also have that little WR Zay Flowers equipped with elite change of direction that consistently gives him separation.  They usually line him up off the line of scrimmage in the slot, on the wing or as a flanker to prevent press coverage on him.

On paper, it sure looks like there's no bad choices for the guy calling plays there.  That said, there's always a lot of injuries in the AFC North that don't comply with convenience or a team's plans.

It's kind of strange how often the Browns draft Ohio State players now.

For the longest time, it seemed like they went out of their way not to draft Buckeyes. I think there's at least four Ohio State players on the Browns roster now! 😁

That used to drive me nuckin futs. I'm glad they changed that.  Having said that, Luke Wypler was round 6; Dawand Jones was round 4; Tommy Togiai (no longer with us) was round 4.  Only Denzel Ward was taken in round 1 at #4 overall

My dad talked about Jim Houston quite a bit.. Told me what a stalwart player he was.. But I think his favorite was Jerry Sherk... For me.. Leroy Kelly was the reason I became a Browns fan when I saw him return a ball from our 20 to the opposing 20 nearly falling to the ground the entire play... It was mind numbingly amazing. But for me all time fave was Clay Mathews Jr. #57.. As I have stated in the past.  He was everything today's athlete is not.. Drove the same beat up automobile from his college days until almost nearly the latter part of his career.. Was just a total class act... If he had played for the Rams or the Jets.. He would undoubtedly be enshrined as he should be.. The travesty of not inducting him sickens me to the core.. When I think of the quintesssential athlete. He stands out in my book.. Always worked hard.. Did every thing the right way.. Never bitched publicly about money or was looking for accolades. And excelled in any defense you put him in.. While I understand him and Garrett play different spots and eras... Hands down I would pick Clay every time... But to Garretts credit.. Hes not Mack Mitchell or Kamerion Wimbley

Well said!  We got Clay Matthews and Ozzie Newsome in the 1st round of 1978. Next thing you know the Browns are frequenting the playoffs from 1980 and throughout the 80s. Those 2 were great leaders by example on their side of the ball.  Poor Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers never played in 1 playoff game with the Bears (after both being drafted in the same year by Chicago).

Tough question. I think I'd rather replace Garrett, for sake of argument, with Jim Houston. At least, to not lose anything, I think Houston played a bit meaner, but he was just as fast, quick, etc.

and I'd replace watson with Michael Dean Perry and let him be qb. lol

    That last part was funny.

All this stuff right now some of us are debating Myles Garrett about just seems strange since the guy has made 5 Pro Bowls at a very important position for the Browns. Is there 1 or 2 guys some could argue are better?  Well yeah, and they're arguing that.  The timing of it after winning 11 games - just seems strange.  Nobody is going to change the difference of opinions on it. In the end, it won't be about who is better than Garrett - it will be about who is better than Patrick Mahomes (the way it was about Tom Brady before this).

Jim Houston was before my time; but he did some great things for Cleveland and Ohio State.  He was drafted in 1960 by the Browns from Ohio State.  The Browns converted the former Buckeye to DE as a rookie where he remained through 1962. In 1963 he was moved to LBer (for the rest of his career); and in 1964 he made his 1st Pro Bowl.  He also made it in 65, 69 and 70.  He made 4 Pro Bowls for this team. He also had 14 INTs which ranks #2 among Browns LBers.

So something Ghoolie said got me thinking, so here goes for the rest of you (hell, it can't make this thread any worse)

Let's take our current 11-6 Browns roster and if you could replace Myles Garrett with Clay Matthews, Michael Dean Perry or Eric Turner (all in their primes), do you make the change and if so who do you pick?

I'll start off with Yes - Eric Turner

It's a tough one as "who replaces Myles" and all of that, but man having that terrifying monster roam center field, even in today's NFL, just might be the last piece of the puzzle to elevate the defense to a top 3 unit.

No disrespect to Myles as this is simply a who would you rather.... What say you?

I LOVED Eric Turner; and I've wanted a Safety like him since the day he left.  Even with him, the Browns only had 1 winning record during his time playing Defense for Bill Belichick and Nick Saban here. That day Eric Turner shutout NE's Pro Bowl TE Ben Coates in the playoffs was a masterpiece. They went 0-3 against Pittsburgh that 1 year they did make the playoffs.  Ironically, this team in 2020 BEAT Pittsburgh in the playoffs AT Pittsburgh with Myles Garrett scoring our 1st TD in a game the Browns scored 48 points.  Aside from that - our pass rush forced 4 INTs from Roethlisberger.

Think back to our 1986 team that went 12-4 - we had Clay Matthews and Mike Johnson with a Pro Bowl NT up front.  Unfortunately, their 1985 Defensive Rookie of the Year (Safety - Don Rogers) who passed away - would have been a perfect fit in our secondary on that team doing exactly what you mentioned above. What that 86 team really lacked when it was playoff time was an edge rusher on either side.

With the team as is - we could use that safety you speak of.  Right now the Ratbirds have Kyle Hamilton who's 6-4 and 221 pounds with a wingspan that can cover 2 area codes. He'd be the guy I would bring here if I had the balls to release the only impactful edge rusher this team has.  Did Baltimore with Ed Reed or Pittsburgh with Polly ever suck?  No.  However, both of those teams always had elite/Pro Bowl Edge Rushers and an ideal IDL to give those Safeties certain freedoms they wouldn't have had on teams without all that kind of talent upfront IMO.

The other thing this defense needs is 1 more edge rusher that can pressure/sack the QB.

Schwartz is like the DPOY. His def3nse shows up 1/2 the time, for home games. He is incompetent when the team goes on the road. Now, part of his struggle is becausebthe DPOY also is on the roster as a part time player, but even at that Schwartz has had to scratch his balls on the road.

It will be interesting to see when he hands the away games to.

Of course he is because he WON Assistant Coach of the Year in 2023.   In conclusion folks - don't take ecstasy like the knucklehead above.

In lieu of watching the Browns he just listens to them on Sirius Radio.  Sirius?  Serious.  Just add Tennessee Stupid Juice and he's talking about his computer handing out bloody noses to other computers.  Seems pretty strange a guy that needs to announce he's wealthy can't afford the Sunday Ticket.  You just can't make stuff up like this and Hollywood is getting jealous.

    1. I was at the game during Henry's rookie season when he had four interceptions, I think vs the Lions of the Motor City.

    2. Was Gramatica the kicker who celebrated after kicking a first quarter field goal in a meaningless end of the season game and tore his Achilles or hamstring jumping up like some silly goose?

    3. My central air has been out this week. It's been in the 80s. It has not been fun nor funny. This has nothing to do with anything even remotely discussed in this thread, but if people can pimp their books on Amazon about selling water coolers or whatever, well, allow me to retort. (That IS one tasty beverage, Brad.)

    4. It's high time Cleveland State has a football team. In fact, back in my Playstation playing games, I would make a Cleveland State Vikings team on the NCAA football game.

Gramatica was the comic relief in all that. Ironically that was right above where you wrote it has not been fun or funny. Henry had a killer good rookie year. As for Cleveland State - I'm about 1 more football addiction away from my wife changing the locks on me.

Yes, that was Gramatica. 🤣  I think he also had a brother that kicked later on for the school.  I never really followed them unless they were on TV playing against UCF in the War of I-4 90 minutes up that Interstate.   That sucks about the timing of your AC - hopefully it just needs more freon.

I'm not busting balls, but I honestly had no idea Dayton had a football team.

I know someone who played women's basketball there, but had no clue they had a football team.

Before Khalil Mack played at the University of Buffalo, they were a Division III football team just down the road from Buffalo State's Division III football team. That later progressed to Division I and a new stadium was built.  In Florida, The University of South Florida transitioned from a brand new Division III program to Division I the 1st time we lived in Florida.  Automatica Gramitca was the place kicker there before playing for the Bucs.  In fact, the Browns drafted Cornerback Anthony Henry from USF in 2001 which means he began there when it was Division III before leaving there as a very good DB that gained experience as a Safety and a Corner.  As a rookie with the Browns in 2001, he had 10 INTs almost exclusively as a 3rd corner covering the slot.  With stats like that, Dallas kept an eye on him until they signed him as a FA after his 4th season with the Browns. They overpaid him thinking he had the ability to be their #1 Corner (due to stats like his rookie year).  Better research of who he was and where he would have been best used should have included why USF used him as both a Safety and a Corner as well as why he played his best ball with Cleveland as their 3rd corner.

It's like when I broke my leg back in 09... It took 2 years to feel completely confident on it again... Its exactly why I'm not expecting a lot from Watson and Chubb this season.. Injuries take time... This team is gonna need a bit of glue to be held together this season on the mental aspect of things...

    👍👍

  18. Now try to imagine what would happen to his tackling if his shoulder popped out and he had to play the rest of the year with it injured. He's probably the type of kid that wouldn't want to use that as an excuse while knowing his team needed him even at 50% (still upgrading all other options). That's what happened to Garrett last year, causing some drastic drop off in the stats which I wrote about Nicks.  He never once used it as an excuse - he kept his mouth shut and played through it.  All the while our opponents continued to game plan exclusively for Garrett.  Of all years for anyone to run their yap that Garrett didn't show up for his team - 2023 was not the year to do that.

What do all of those things have in common?  Only Trolls from the Yap Dawg Pound are upset this franchise is moving in the right direction.  When this team makes the playoffs twice after the 2020 and 2023 regular seasons - that's a 4 year span showing epic progress inclusive of a post season victory at Pittsburgh (for the 1st time in the Super Bowl era). The Browns scored 48 points - after Myles Garrett scored the 1st TD of the game.  TJ Watt's defense gave up 41 points after that while Ben Roethlisberger threw 4 INTs caused by our swarming defense.  Where was TJ that night?  Taking notes.  LOOK atchya. Just LOOK atchya!

You argument of DPOY, is meaningless. What exactly does that award mean, or do for the Browns, other than making Mild Garrett's fans feel vindicated against his critics?

Does it bring more wins? A championship?

There are members of this board, as well as well respected analysts who write and believe as I do, that Mild Garrett doesn't show up, quite often, and it has been that way his entire career.

When I ask you about his 6 no shows and failure in the playoff game, you response to me is, "He is DPOY".

I am talking actual football, and you are arguing the "My Dad's tougher than yours" contest.

If Garrett again doesn't show up for 6 games next year, are we to just be okay with that because what? The DPOY award is more important?

Not one of you experts have offered to debate with me, why is it that Garrett is so oftent absent from key games.

Is he an alcoholic? Does he bet on Browns games and hedge his bets? Is he not physically able to give his all for 17 games? Is he lazy?

Dude, it wasn't me who turned a debate into personal and political insults.

Let me ask you, do you take exception with we who believe Garrett is not relentless? Many of us believe this.

Surely you don't see this guy as being as motivated as Clay Matthews or E Roc were?

The DPOY award does not erase the guy's no shows.

Says the same troll that posted Joe Thomas sucked for all 10 years of his Hall of Fame career for the Browns which included 10 consecutive Pro Bowls.

Let's take a look below at all of Myles Garrett's accomplishments in just 7 years with the Browns. 5 Pro Bowls in 7 seasons doesn't show me this slacker you need our audience to see.  Some complaints I've seen from fans that I can agree with prior to 2023 were from those wishing he took on more of a leadership role. The other complaints were in 2019 when he got suspended for the final 6 games - I agree with anyone frustrated with him about that.  I posted that when it happened.  In just the 1st 10 games of 2023 Garrett already had 13 of his 14 sacks; 30 of his 42 Total Tackles; 22 of his 33 Solo Tackles: so it comes down to this question - what caused the drop off in his stats the last 7 games?  Ready?  This was from an article by Spencer German: Shoulder injuries have been a dark cloud over the Browns 2023 season. So when star pass rusher Myles Garrett was seen in a sling after the team's loss to Denver on Sunday, sharing that he felt a "pop" in his shoulder, a wave of panic struck the fan base. Garrett played in 6 more games with this injury so you can question his toughness all you want. Outside of his suspension - he doesn't miss as many football games to injury as your TJ Watt does.  IN 2022 alone Watt missed 7 games.
