I like the idea of Colson being a good complement to JOK, which is why I'm intrigued by him.

Me too!   That said, if he goes before we pick I think Ford offers us the same type of complement to JOK. Last year our ILB was a liability against the pass so we're filling a major need and weakness with either of these guys.

In the last 2 years: Ford had 6 INTs, 21.5 TFL, 3 sacks, 220 Tackles in 27 Games. Colson had 0 INTs, 8 TFL, 2 sacks, 196 Tackles in 29 Games.  Both were ILBs projecting to be ILBs at the next level.

Sad you can't answer the question.

    Oh well. Not surprised

Who's sad?  Ohio State dominates your team and you.  You bring up 1 exception to that rule but it's loaded with asterisks. You know this and so does every reader in this thread.  You're literally carrying this on all the while you have yet to convince yourself you're pumped about a Championship that required a Head Coach suspension that you said was going to be really easy for Harbaugh to get out of.  Remember that?

Hang in there.  With any luck they might start making Raspberry Chewables Prozac for you soon.

Why did OSU lose to Michigan in 2023?

Why is Michigan 5-17 against Ohio State in the new millennium?  Is the whoop ass gettin too spicy for you?  We can do this as long as you want.  The reality is that the scoreboard I keep showing you caused recruiting violations and stealing signs on the sidelines from the Annie's Arbor Football program... 😁

Ohio State has 2 National Championships since 2000 - no asterisks required.  Anything less from other programs causes asterisks, coaching suspensions/firings and uh-ohs... 😁

That will probably change.  I think Taylor is on his first contract as well.  Both will probably get in the 6-8 mil range.  If I was Haslam I would extend him 3 years now.  That gives Stefanski 4 years of security.  After that, wait and see, looking to keep giving 3 years deals going in to the 4th season if warranted.

    I think so too!

Ford's tape matches his numbers. Interested to see if GM's group Ford with bucks Tommy E or UNC Cedric Grey's round projections of 4th round. Good find Flug's !

Thanks Gumbs!  One thing I like about Lindy's Draft Mag is they listed him as an ILB where the Athlon Draft mag just lists all LBers (but shows their stats for all years played, which I really like).

I was deciding between between Colson and him.  Colson is actually rated higher.  Lindy's projects Colson in round 2 and Athlon projects him in round 3 where they project him as their 3rd highest rated LB and Ford as their 5th highest rated LB. I leaned the way I did because of the 6 INTs from Ford the last 2 years and none from Colson.  Also, I factored in that I put Payton Wilson my list of 5 favorite prospects for 2nd round.  These 2 rounds I made sure we had an OLB and and ILB and both being good in coverage.

Both Ford and Colson were blessed with terrific DTs in front of them to make their lives against the run easier.

You mentioned UNC's Cedric Gray - Lindy's top rated ILB is Cedric Gray with a projection of rd 1-2 while Athlon (rating all the LBers together) lists him as their 4th highest rated LB with a rd 3 projection.

The variance of ratings and projections make this a little challenging but it's fun getting more familiar with what they've done and what they can offer teams in the draft.

Not intended to high jack team cap space topic. But stumbled across a interesting list of 2023 NFL Coaches contracts/ranking $$..

Where does 2 time coach of the year land on list?

    Top 10 highest-paid NFL coaches 2023

    COACH TEAM ANNUAL SALARY
    1. Bill Belichick New England Patriots $20 million     Not coaching in 2024
    2. Sean Payton Denver Broncos $18 million
    3. Pete Carroll Seattle Seahawks $15 million     Not coaching in 2024
    4. Sean McVay Los Angeles Rams $15 million
    5. Mike Tomlin Pittsburgh Steelers $12.5 million
    6. Andy Reid Kansas City Chiefs $12 million
    7. John Hargbaugh Baltimore Ravens $12 million
    8. Kyle Shanahan San Francisco 49ers $10 million
    9. Josh McDaniels Las Vegas Raiders $10 million     Not coaching in 2024
    10. Mike Vrabel Tennessee Titans $9.5 million    Not coaching in 2024

Who are the lowest paid NFL coaches 2023?

    COACH TEAM SALARY
Matt LaFleur Green Bay Packers $5 million
Robert Saleh New York Jets $5 million
Zac Taylor Cincinnati Bengals $4.5 million
Mike McCarthy Dallas Cowboys $4 million
Kevin Stefanski Cleveland Browns $3.5 million   last on HC list

The Cleveland Browns brought in HC Kevin Stefanski and GM Andrew Berry to work together as a collaborative unit in 2020. It is important to note that Stefanski was hired first then joined the search that ended up with Berry as the general manager.

Despite that, Berry does not report to Stefanski. Despite their titles, Stefanski does not report to Berry.

Both head coach and GM report directly to the ownership group led by Jimmy Haslam.

Kevin Stefanski's 4 season record is 37-30 .552% with a 1-2 playoff record.  5 year contract expires January of 2025

The interesting thing here is 2 of the 3 lowest paid Head Coaches are employed by the teams in Ohio - that have drastically improved their frequency of making the playoffs fwiw.

If I'm reading this correctly, it seems like this would force kickoff returns.

You can't pooch kick, or the opposing team automatically gets great field position. You don't want to kick the ball through the end zone, because you'll be giving the opposing team great field position.

Kind of forces you to kick the ball to the returners, and it forces the returners to return the kicks.

It seems like it gives people what they claim they want.

They should be careful what they wish for.  We have such fond memories of losing our red hot place kicker Dustin Hopkins when nobody stayed in their lanes on our kickoff coverage team...  For a league that pretends to care about player health - their actions speaking louder than words slam dunks otherwise. Just look at the injury volumes in an era aiming to put people in space for more violent collisions.  There's less injuries and concussions in rugby played without head gear and pads.  Why should the NFL consider physics?

I listed Rice too. It's gonna be very interesting to see which guy has the better NFL career.  The only one we have a shot at drafting is Rice. Both Rice and Harrison are bigger than their dads.  Without an official stop watch confirming this - Harrison is rumored to be faster than his dad (inclusive of a much bigger wing span).  The one thing nobody ever seems to talk about or admire much with Harrison or Rice was their durability perpetuating all their awesome accomplishments.

Like I said, why is Ohio Sate 17-5 against Michigan since 2000?  In that span, Ohio State has 2 National Championships while you're still trying to convince yourself Michigan has one.  Stay tuned.....

Can you imagine being Woody, seriously though?

His life IS Ann Arbor's football team. It got its ass handed to it by Ohio State for two decades.

    TWO DECADES.

Then out of nowhere his beloved team finally slays its master. He can FINALLY walk around in his blue and piss yellow with pride.

Then he finds out his team was cheating its ass off.

    Must be soul-crushing. 🤣

He's not gonna convince anyone he's happy until he finally convinces himself.  That ain't happening any time soon...

Hey Woody give your soul to God because your ass belongs to Ohio State.

    Watching Beebe from KState.

His footwork is like going against your old man playing basketball. Nothing quick or fancy, but not a lot of wasted motion so very 'fluid'.    He's a bit top heavy, but he gets a great punch in his short sets. Had a great trap on Sweat to start things off, and walled the big man really well. Does a good job not tipping his pulls and gets lateral then down the line to his target reasonably well and in tight movements. Doesn't arrive with the worst of intentions, but when he's singled up in straight drop pass pro, where he shines is his hand work and upper body strength. Wonder if home boy has spent time at tackle? Because his patient footwork and pass pro strike really scream like he's been coached there.

Either way, I like what I see so far and I've only gotten through his full game against Texas and their Dline.

He has played Tackle in his early years at K-State but his arm length is only 31 1/2".  I read he's played both Guard positions and both Tackle positions.

@Flugel @gumby73 (And anyone else who wants to participate, of course)

Want to do a top 5 list for our 3rd round pick, like we we did for the 2nd rounder?

    I'll start.

Here's a random order of my top 5 guys for round 3:

OG/OT. Isaiah Adams, Illinois 6-4 318 - He was a Team Captain that played LG in 2022 before moving to RT and playing well in 2023.

WR. Brenden Rice, USC 6-3 210 - Scored 12 TDs in 2023 on 45 receptions for 791 yards at 17.6 YPC. Jerry Rice is his dad so I have a good feeling about his work ethic, upside and access to the best tutor possible.

RB. Braelon Allen, Wisconsin 6-2 245 - Oh yes I did!  He's only 20 years old.  As an 17 year old Freshman in the Big 10 - he rushed for 1268 yards while averaging 6.8 yards per carry and scoring 12 rushing TDs.  1 year later, he ran for 1242 yards at 5.4 YPC and scoring 11 TDs.  As a 19 year old he only played 11 games and rushed for 984 yards with the 5.4 YPC average again scoring 12 TDs on the ground again. It says he'll only be 20 years old for his entire rookie season.

LB. Jaylan Ford, Texas 6-2 235 - Made 119 Tackles with 10 TFL as a junior and 101 Tackles with 10.5 TFL as a senior. Projected as a 3 down LBer at the next level with 6 INTs and 4 PBU over the last 2 years.

SAFETY. Jaden Hicks, Washington State 6-3 212 -76 Tackles in 2022 and 79 Tackles in 2023 with 6 TFL and 2.5 sacks.

Here's my 3rd round shortlist for the Browns:

WR Devontez Walker, North Carolina 6'2, 200lbs. Good size with ability to get separation.

OG Tanor Bortolini, Wisconsin. 6'4, 310lbs. Versatile interior OLineman. Plays like a wrestler but has great quickness for pulling.

DT Ruke Orhorhoro, Clemson. 6'4, 290lbs. Very good interior pass rusher, needs work vs the run.

ILB Tommy Eichenberg, Ohio State 6'2, 236lbs. Smart, tough player. Average athlete.

TE Cade Stover, Ohio State. 6'4, 251lbs. Might be the most overall well-rounded TE in this weak class.

CB T.J. Tampa, Iowa State. 6'2, 195lbs. Good size, wingspan and a strong tackler.

S Calen Bullock, USC. 6'2, 193lbs. Ballhawk with tremendous range.

Yes, I put in Cade Stover again. Perhaps I reached for him  by inserting him into my second round shortlist. Well, here he is again! 😉

Looks really good!  Stover is a great idea for this round and I liked him for the 2nd round.  I think he's going to be a great NFL TE.

Sure. Thanks!  I'll do mine this afternoon.  Biggest surprise I found on defense in Lindy's Draft Mag was them projecting Texas' T'Vondre Sweat for round 3 as their 8th highest rated DT. I doubt he even makes it to #54 overall in round 2.  Athlon has him as their 3rd best DT projected for round 2. As I said in my previous post - these rankings/projections can vary from 1 Magazine/Site to another.

  16. I finally found Lindy's Pro Football Draft Magazine at the store yesterday.  I've always liked the way they beat to their own drum in terms of where they are willing to project prospects. I also notice heights and weights of various prospects can vary from 1 publication/site to another. I'm going to find out with you if they dared to be different this year as I post their version of top 5 prospects in each position and their overall grade for the position group. I'll begin with defense this morning (I'll get the offense later today or tomorrow):

This reminds me of when the Browns brought DC Ray Horton back as our DC a 2nd time just to make sure they were right about firing him the first time.  Just 1 losing season later, they confirmed they were right the 1st time. Are the Browns really doing this with Cade York too?

It looks like there's a discussion about this in the video below:
