Mark O
Very interesting and makes it hard to see O'Neil keeping his job. I don't know why they wouldn't make a change during the bye. The Saints just got rid of Rob Ryan and they're defense is just as bad as ours.

jiggins7919
Bademosi on Brown with no help. Probably not a good idea. Anyone remember when we blitzed the Bengals with both K'Waun Williams and Campbell, which left Armonty Bryant one on one versus a WR? Yeah... D Bone
Wow - crazy amounts of dysfunction. As much as I like Pet the man, this dysfunction is squarely on his shoulders and not hearing or seeing it, and then fixing it speaks volumes of his coaching ability. Once your the HC of an NFL team, it's no longer about the Xs and Os, it's about managing the people in your building, and he apparently (his 3-14 record since the Bungles game proves it) is failing miserably. He better open his eyes and ears, shut his mouth and make the changes needed, or he will soon no longer have to worry about it.......... maybe ever. Unsympathetic
We had better not hire that moron from New Orleans who is proud of the hairstyle of a homeless alcoholic. If anyone could manage to make the Browns D worse.. it's him.
tiamat63
The more I look at this defense, on paper (schematically) the more I just don't believe its a viable way to attack in today's NFL. If you're going to get rid of O'Neil, you're going to have to tweak the defensive philosophy of this team and consequently Pettine will have to do the same. Whether he's willing is a different matter entirely.
Opal312
Haslam said there won't be any changes over the bye. Did Rob Ryan ever work with the Browns in the past? Living off his Father's name has worn thin. He stinks! Go after Mike Singletary and Greg Sciano Haslam is stubborn and won't make changes. After his purge just a year and a half ago he does not want to look like a meddling, overreacting owner who makes changes willy nilly. But....the fact is, this is the worst looking defense.....the most poorly managed, poorly scheme, wrongheaded utilization of talent that I have ever seen in a Browns team....and I go back to like 1962 in watching Browns teams. The expansion team defense in 1999 looked more competent than this.
The Gipper
Back to the article. So who will speak up for the LB's that are put out of position? It has happened before......if basically the entire defense goes to Pettine and says that we cannot play in this system, and they want the DC fired.....he would be gone. What is Pettine going to do......cut the bunch of them? The "coup" would have to be led by the veterans: Haden, Dansby, Whitner, Williams, Starks, Kruger, etc.
Opal312
www.factoryofsadness.com The Cleveland Browns embarrassed themselves in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Factory of Sadness Voice of the Fan is ready to clean house. Have you ever seen an NFL team look this SAD! The Cleveland Browns possess absolutely some of the worst offense and defense the Shield has ever known! Ben Roethlisberger started the game on the bench. Big Ben was out with a bad foot, and would only play if backup Landry Jones went down. In true Browns fashion, Cleveland knocked out Jones on the first series of the game, which opened to the door for Roethlisberger. He was obviously very imobile and yet, the Browns pass rush was invisible! He had 379 yards, three touchdowns and an interception! The Browns miss on draft picks also provided the fan base with tough pills to swallow. On top of having no one who could put pressure on Big Ben, the secondary was abysmal. Pierre Desir watched seasoned receiver fly by him for a touchdown, while the Lindenwood product looked like his feet were buried cement! Cleveland hasnt got a corner or a safety that could cover an old granny using a walker! How bad must Justin Gilbert be!?! (He was inactive,by the way). Pass interference penalties crushed the Browns. A 39-yard pass interference call against Johnson Bademosi was followed by a 38-yard interference call on Tramon Williams. The secondary is supposed to be Mike Pettines speciality, but in Pittsburgh, it probably wanted to make him puke! And then theres the offense, and what Pettine will try and call a running game. At halftime, the offense had negative rushing yards. For the game, Browns backs Duke Johnson and Isaiah Crowell combined to carry the ball 10 times for 5 yards; 0.5 yards per carry. Are you kidding me! Manziel led all Browns rushers with 17 yards on three carries. Just an absolute embarrassment! Cameron Erving made his long awaited first start at left guard, the position he took the least reps at in training camp. He looked like he shouldve been a fifth-round pick by how poor he played. The lack of the receivers needed to be a real NFL team is very evident here, again! The Surfs Ray Farmer put together cant get open and have problems separating from any and all defensive backs! This is the same problem this rag-tag outfit has suffered through all year The Browns had 12 penalties for 188 yards. Thats not disciplined football. Thats on the coaches. Canton Mike
I believe that Pettine is his own worst enemy. The man HAS not, and all indications are, WILL not change. I also think he would stubbornly refuse to accept criticism from them. I've been saying for weeks that he has to go. Just DO NOT bring Rob Ryan back. calfoxwc
I still think Flip stays, and Pettine and Oneil have to be gone. Pettine's defense doesn't work, never has been a great defense. The players deserve better than this stupidass micro-managing bs, designed on paper, doesn't fly in real life on the field. Tramon says it - the players are very frustrated at the silly complexity at every turn.
D Bone
Benjamin says Browns can turn it around “with the right staff” http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/11/16/benjamin-says-browns-can-turn-it-around-with-the-right-staff/?ocid=Yahoo&partner=ya5nbcs Browns wide receiver Travis Benjamin delivered an interesting answer Monday when reporters asked him about his football future. Per Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal, Benjamin responded to a question about the Browns’ poor record changing his personal outlook for the future by saying, in part, that “as long as we get the right pieces in here and the right staff and anything we need to make this team great, I’m willing to stick by for the long haul.” The current coaching staff won’t much like “the right staff” part. It’s just a quote, one that history says will be followed with some sort of clarification. These things happen, especially during 2-8 seasons. Benjamin’s breakout season has come in the final season of his rookie contract. He’s been especially productive with Johnny Manziel at quarterback and had his third game of 100-plus yards receiving in Sunday’s loss at Pittsburgh. Benjamin had 2 touchdown catches in Manziel’s first start of the season in Week 2. On the season, Benjamin has 48 catches for 736 yards and 4 touchdowns. Benjamin was a fourth-round pick in 2012; that was two Browns administrations ago. Though Benjamin has always been a dangerous return man, his previous career best for receptions in a season was 18.
