The Hitler and Lenin and Bernie thread

On Clinton's emails the FBI is investigating this and if they refer the case to our DOJ and they don't act on that referral I see some real fireworks over it. As far as I am concerned the ball is in the FBI's court and if after the investigation they don't recommend criminal charges against Clinton I'm fine with that. Unlike our DOJ that is too political I don't see the FBI that way.

I honestly think that Kasich and Paul were the only guys the reps had that could have pulled enough of the middle to win the gen election. Run anybody else and it's likely going to be a carbon copy of the last election. People don't want a far leftie but they'll take one over a far righty. That the reps haven't figured that out yet is mystifying to me.

*never heard of it*

*google it*

*also known as Ohio valley disease*

*that's why I haven't heard of it*

I'm guessing you didn't learn to touch type in your youth either...

I did not. Unfortunately. But unless I was a hell of a typo there would still be typos and if I used any kind of intuitive software it would still fuck things up. Ironically I was visiting my parents in Texas where they lived for a while and it was there I was diagnosed.

They took me to a retinologist at the SMU Medical Center and the doctor look puzzle and said son have you been to Ohio recently? I told him I was just visiting and that I lived there and he explained it. Upon returning home I went to her retinologist here and was treated. Unfortunately in those days treatment consisted of burning out the lesion with a laser in hopes it would not spread. I had a few of those procedures on both eyes before the photodynamic treatment and steroids (non destructive) were approved.

Especially infuriating because I've had a couple of offers to narrate audiobooks and can't read the printed page quickly enough now.

That's gotta suck for reading music as well, right? Does bigger font make any difference?

Oh someone but the problem is is that there's a dead spot in the center of vision. The right eye is directly in the center and the left just below the center so it makes it hard to focus on anything. Luckily for me everything I do is by ear. I mean if I had to I could count the sharps and flats on the staff and look at a keyboard and figure out what key a song might be in but that's about it.

I mean I know the difference between major, minor, augmented, diminished, 7th etc just can't read them off the staff.

It comes down to your perspective. Was John McCain whom the repubs ran in 08 an extremist? Was Mitt Romney in 12? I consider Obama an extremist but that is from a conservative's perspective. How we see these things are definitely influenced by what side of the fence we are on.

I don't want to get into dueling google searches but there are many articles to read from showing democrats have moved even farther to the left than republicans have to the right.

Absolutely it's perspective. And whether you believe me or not, I have stood, relatively still, slightly left of center for most of my adult years. When I now look left, I see a long line of folks, but little discernable movement away from me. Whereas when I look to the right, where once I could count every nose, now I no longer see any end short of the horizon... and I suspect it keeps going past the horizon. The principle pull to the right seems to be the rekindled embrace of an interventionist foreign policy.

Add the above up and I am no longer in the middle of the ideological sprawl, even if I am still in the middle of the population. In other words as the right moves right, I appear to be moving left.

There is a reason there is no liberal analog for NeoCon. The term Neoliberal exists, but it is defined as a liberal who favors free-market capitalism.

If you can google a reference an unbiased article on movement to the left of the left, I'll read it.

Was Senator McCain an extremist? No. Let me ask you... was he a conservative?

Was Mitt an extremist? No. Was he a conservative?

As for President Obama... beyond a willingness to engage in negotiations with our adversaries and successfully legislating our first heathcare expansion in decades, I do not see what new, liberal ground he has plowed that you can view as radical.

As for touch typing errors, it's a bit different for me being 30, having grown up with and now work with computers, but I touch type pretty much everything and mistakes are rarer and rarer.

I imagine that's true. Probably within a few years I will be able to write cursive li while young people can't. Everything changes my friend.

That should move him up a few points higher. I quit underestimating Trump a while back. All the conventional wisdom seems to go out the window and things he says and does that you think will sink him in the polls only make his poll numbers higher.

I had a keyboard that was entirely blank once - it didn't really make any difference since I've always typed at the speed of light and never look down.

--

And as far as the pope - we have to secure the border period. The mass deportation is controversial - securing the border is not. In our world we can't have open borders - it'd be nice, but we can't have it. Loads of drugs come in, tons of human trafficking happens, not to mention diseases and security threats.

Even apart from the substance the Pope has considerable sway among millions of people.

As I've said before my vision isn't very good. Ocular histoplasmosis syndrome to be exact. Makes it very hard for me to read a printed page but I can do a few words at a time, it just slows me down. Makes it very hard to type. That actually is very frustrating condition.

It's a rare condition but similar in some ways to macular degeneration.

Sorry to read that, Steve. My Mom lost to macular in her left eye and was fighting it off in her right at her passing. Took her for many ocular injections her last couple years.

Did the SMU Doc offer any explanation as to why Ohioans would be prone to this affliction?

Scariest as perhaps many democrats fear he is the one most likely to win in November?

Exactly... meant scariest to the Dems in a general election. I'm sure there would be plenty of fodder from Kasich's days on Fox News to make attack ads, but he checks too many boxes that would be attractive to moderate independents.

See my post - 'also known as ohio valley disease' or some such. It's endemic to the area.

In Dec 2002 I started having unexplained fevers with no other symptoms. After a couple weeks of this, I went to the Dr and he ordered blood tests and a chest xray. While waiting to be told I could go (The national championship game was on - OSU vs Miami) the Radiologist came and said he wanted to give me a CT scan because they 'found a nodule' on my lung. So I had a CT, and sure enough I had multiple nodules. I went home sure I had lung cancer. Went and had a broncoscopy and numerous CT scans and a Pet scan over the next 7 months. Turns out it was Histoplasmosis (spelling). Or at least they think it was. Although I thought this mainly affected people who lived in the country. I just moved back to Ohio in the late nineties. I didn't realize it could affect the eyes also.

Sway them to Bernie Sanders maybe - everybody else supports a border fence (even Clinton voted for it)

He actually could probably do that. I think this pope feels the Bern as he is very socialist himself.

I want to see us build a wall and take control of our borders but the larger point is Trump has the highest negative image of all the candidates (including Cruz). If trump defies conventional wisdom and wins the republican primary how will he do in the general election? It looks like he has a lot of work cut out for him.

Trump's Negative Image

Most political and media commentators have at this point installed Donald Trump as the GOP front-runner on the eve of the first actual voting set to begin on Monday in Iowa. But this narrative tends to obscure the fact that Trump is the most unpopular candidate of either party when the entire U.S. population is taken into account -- and that he has a higher unfavorable rating than any nominated candidate from either of the two major parties going back to the 1992 election when we began to track favorability using the current format.

I can't fault Trump on this fight as this one is totally a fight the pope picked with Trump. The wall being built will have a door where people can come in legally. Also the vatican itself has some pretty high 40 foot walls.

Maybe I'll rethink that OH trip later this year...Cedar Point isn't that great, right? ;)

Depends what kind of rides you are into... Coaster-wise CP is more quantity than quality.

lol... another fight Trump did not start...

And the gate thru that Vatican wall is very wide... did not have to show ID or anything... all they really check for is suitable dress.

Trump has been into lots of fights but this one was a broadside from out of the blue by the pope against Trump. Trump actually had a good response I thought (at least he didn't call the pope a liar).

I don't agree with the pope that because Trump wants to build a wall he cannot be a Christian. The pope also said last year that weapons manufacturers and those who invest in them (gun owners?) could not call themselves Christians and I strongly disagreed with him. The bible says the day will come when the swords will be turned into plowshares but that day is not yet come and until that time those who don't keep their swords will be plowing for those who do. There is only peace through strength.

Hey guy I went to delete one of my comments and accidentally deleted the whole thread. Sorry. Was it the Bernie Sanders thread? I hope not.

Was it the one where I said "I'll play" in reply to your "real American" criteria for Commies and Neo-Nazi's?
