Our final game of the season being played with a bunch of backups, did not do our stats any favors...but here's the full season in a nutshell.

The matchup:

Rushing.  Even  -  The Texans don't run the ball very well.  But we do not run the ball as well as our numbers show.  We've truly struggled to run it in the latter part of the season.

Passing.  Texans -  They're a good passing team.  We, with the addition of Flacco, are not quite as bad as our numbers show.  But still, the Texans have the advantage.

Run Defense.  Texans - Stats show that the Texans are difficult to run against.  We aren't bad against the run but have gone downhill in the latter part of the season.

Pass Defense.  Browns - We are good against the pass when we have Ward & Co. on the field.  The Texans are not great at pass defense, but how much of that is because teams cannot run against them?  Still, our advantage there.

Sacks are pretty close on all 4 sides of the ball.

TAKEAWAYS - My God we've been on the negative end of this stat all year long.  And the Texans are double digits to the positive.  Argh...

Bottom Line (in theory) - A couple of teams that negate each other's strengths but can't take advantage of each other's weaknesses.  I'm left with a deciding factor being turnovers.

It's going to take another great job by the Defense, and by Flacco, for us to win this game.    Go Browns!

I don’t expect a blow out like last time for sure.

I think it has the potential to be an incredibly fun game to watch, it will just be a lot more fun if we come out on top - which I expect us to, as long as we don’t have a turnover problem this game.

The most underrated stat is the turnovers.  The last time the Browns won a playoff game they intercepted Roethlisberger 4 times and recovered a shotgun snap in the end zone.  5 turnovers were pretty helpful in scoring 48 points that game.

Man what a great time that game was, it couldn’t get any better - hype from the first second to the last.

HOU is solid against the run and, well, CLE isn't currently a good rushing team.  Given that Anderson and most of the Texans Dline will be back to play, it's going to take a hell of an effort from the Oline and Ford to make them respect running the rock enough to keep them from teeing off on Flacco.

Pressure rates rise, turnovers tend to come with it.  Joe needs to avoid the silly throws, including the one's we've seen where they miraculously break our way and don't hurt the offense.  That only goes so far before it bites you in the ass.

Texans Oline is shaky, Brownies pass rush will be what makes or breaks the day. Stroud is a great young QB.  But he's still a rookie making his first playoff start.  That and don't let Singletary pop off chunk runs on those HB delays.  That hurt is a couple times last out, and I can't stress how difficult it is beating the same team twice in one season at any level.

In the end I'm just grateful to see another playoff game given the state of the roster. Should be a great wildcard weekend.

It jcan't emphasized enough how much the "mini" bye week is going to factor into this game. To get two full weeks of rest given the nature of this season may (hopefully) service clutch for a playoff run.

Yep- the quiet part out loud is Joe could easily have 3-4 more INT's than he does now. At this point, you just gotta hope it keeps going the right way because it's hard to imagine his mentality is going to change.

Not that quiet, I think it's a popular talking point throughout the media.

But yea, Joey is going to keep slinging it. If a guy is 1-on-1, he's throwing it there. Throwing in between 3 defenders through about a human sized window - no problem.

He could get unlucky on them, and well one unlucky game is all it'll take to go home. But honestly I think it's the kind of backup QB play we need to have a chance - since at least it gives us a chance, we wouldn't go anywhere if we had DTR throwing 2 yards to the flat every play - like how we beat Pittsburgh.

So living and dying by the sword is ok IMO - fun to watch and probably what we need to have a chance against some of these teams without Watson.

Hopefully he takes January Joe 2012 form where he through like 11 touchdowns and 0 ints in the postseason though, that would be good for everyone's heart

Applying a good pass rush makes the DB's all that much better.

Like I said, it's going to take our defense and Flacco to have good days.

It's only Tuesday !    I'm not nervous YeT !  🤗

Checking in on DeMeco, Texas

“Looking back at our first game against the Browns, it was a lot of self-inflicted penalties,” Ryans said. “We made big plays; they were negated by penalties or just mishaps on our part. Again, we have to play clean football versus a really good team. You can’t go out and make mistakes, or they’ll capitalize on it, and they’ve shown that time after time after time.”

The Texans finished the game with 10 penalties for 76 yards. Four were on the offensive line in the first half and then a few defensive pass interference calls set up touchdowns for the Browns.

“We gave up too many explosive passes and Amari [Cooper] had an outstanding game,” Ryans added. “Watching it again, he had some of the best catches I’ve seen all year, even though guys were in coverage and in position, he still made unbelievable catches. He had an outstanding game, so we just have to be in position to cover him better. We have to make plays to get off the field on third-down as well.”

CJ Stroud... Yep! That's our Buckeye QB.. buT,

CJ's still a Rookie QB, like DeMeco & his coaching staff. These Texans lost to the Jets & Panthers this season :o

Bring Jim Schwartz with the full #2 ranked coverage secondary playing smart coverage..

Joseph Vincent Flacco .. to his teammates:

"Something is going to happen in the next five weeks that we will all remember forever."

The sneakiest way a defensive HC like Ryans has to win this game is to exploit sloppy security of the football.  Someone is going to challenge this; because it's on film with guys carrying the ball away from their body.  Hate to say it; but Houston's defensive coaching staff will be challenging every LB/DB/player with a pursuit angle on Njoku/Ford/others to strip the ball.    Securing the football is a fundamental they can practice, which works way better than a simple lip service of "we need to protect the ball better."

Flacco, longer developing deep shots and play-action takes, the cracks emerged in Christian’s game. Of all qualifying offensive tackles, there are only five worse pass blockers in the NFL (according to PFF).

yep and since we are a passing team now, We should go with Watson

Most impressive about Watson’s game against the Bengals, however, was his desire to play from whistle to whistle and look for work. Keeping his head on a swivel, Watson, if not engaged right off the snap in his zone, will find the closest man to him and look to put him on the turf.

He did this three times on Sunday.

----   Whereas Wills, his contract says that he only needs to work for 3.5 seconds per play.

Reality, the article says that Watson is athletic but not very good either.  We really have to take the expectation of pass away from the defense with the running game, but we can't run.  We're too deep into the bench at tackle.  - Our defense is going to have to play its absolute best.

Totally disagree. We are a far far far better passing team.

Stroud is a happy feet Qb. He can only pass when his feet disrupt the play and create a picnic play.

Fuck Stroud. Fuck the Texans and Fuck Texas. I guarantee Stroud will throw 3 picks. He will be kept in the pocket where he blows chunks.

He is going to get pounded. The Brown win by double digits. Meanwhile the Steelers are without the second best pass rusher in the league, still have to join in groups or 6 to have 1 full set of teeth, and engage in fucking sewer rats.

Fuck everyone who isn't us.

Now THAT, is how you break down a game.
