THE BROWNS BOARD

Behind the scenes at NFL Headquarters

The NFL has a problem. Far too many question it's integrity.

The untapped financial frontier of the new found Taylor Swift fans only facilitates further doubt.

Additionally, the for me but not for thee aspect of gambling is mind-boggling. Partnering with FanDuel, DraftKings and BETMGM and deluging the fanbase with fantasy football and online gambling and sports sportsbooks while treating anyone accused of gambling like a leper is hypocritical.

I can only imagine the thoughts in Calvin Ridley's head. Suspended for a whole season ...

As a child of the 80s, I had no idea who Alex Karras was, but I knew George (and Ma'am).

He was an Outland Trophy winner, Runner-up for the Heisman, All Pro and Pro Football HOF. One of the greatest DTs you ever saw play and "Mongo" in Blazing Saddles. 🤣 Oh Yeah, pretty good in Paper Lion based on George Plimpton's Book about the Lions.

Gambling websites explicitly attempt to make the user addicted.  They hire psychologists to push all the buttons within the human psyche currently known.  They have meetings where the phrase "And you can see exactly when the user becomes addicted" is discussed.  Gambling addiction is not "an unfortunate coincidence" -- it's the single goal of the business.

VPN's never "hide" you.. today's available technology sees through VPN's instantly.

As an example, one of the first gambling sites, PokerStars, was only available for use within New Jersey.  So anyone in the US could/would put money in, and then when they tried to cash out and claim to be Sitting In NJ, PS would deny them bc they could see the person is sitting in oklahoma.

Good luck cashing out once you put it in.  And yes, every podcast that mentions or streams gambling is being paid to lie to you.

NFL partnering with these groups is, to put it incredibly charitably, a wild disservice.

This is why, the top adds and bonus bets with promos at the forefront of EVERY gambling site/app are usually parlay based.

 A couple reasons.

- bet:win ratio which entices gamblers to "only" spend a much lesser amount.  In turn, you get people who nickel and dime themselves to death off $5-20 bets.  It's no different than playing scratch off lottery tickets in that case. Not so much in odds, but in them essentially being micro transactions where you will lose the majority you play.  But you'll chase the high off one win.  I have a buddy of mine, god love him, that's been chasing a 5 leg parlay from a couple years back that won him just over $1000.  When I told him to look at his total win/loss over that same span, he "felt" he was hanging around even, he was pretty well in the red.

 - parlays are (long term) mathematical Russian roulette.  Only difference is you have 5 in the chamber of a 6 shooter. So really it's suicide. The combined risk to sink all, with even a push costing you your ticket, are what books count on.   Where else, especially with these books being businesses that fight for customers, in typical single wagers, a push now means your initial bet is just refunded. 6 years ago a push meant a loss when I was studying.

I said it on here before, but the ability to emotionally remove yourself to make smarter decisions is a rare tool people work to develop. The NFL knows people have an emotional attachment to their teams and will blindly back them in religious devotion.  Books know this, they are not your friends and absolutely count on these things to take advantage for their profit.

Hell, half the wagers I've made on the Brownies the last 5 seasons have been against them when they, or their opponents, been over/under valued in the market.

We failed (87% no - it was crushed) both an online betting measure and a casino (tribal casinos reign here) sports book measure last winter in CA.  They packaged it with good intentions giving some proceeds to the homeless issues here.  Mind you the issue can’t be solved mainly because of the solutions offered.  But the resounding message was passing it would make people homeless.  The propaganda against it pointed directly at the folks with impulse control issues. Nevermind the folks who bought homes 5,10,20 plus years ago that are sitting on a ton of equity and pay their taxes and want a little added excitement watching a game.
