THE BROWNS BOARD

Mike Tomlin might be on a short leash

I'll be the first to admit that losing 5 games in a row for PGH sends a message to players and coaches. Tomlin has fired the offensive line coach and special teams coach but if another bad season happens I suspect Tomlin might be on his way out.

Words from Art Rooney II

1) Telling the coach you need to run the ball more consistently. Rooney said his coach has conveyed that to offensive coordinator Bruce Arians. "Mike has talked to Bruce about that." When the owner has to tell the coach how to coach that is not good.

2) Rooney said he is satisfied with the job Tomlin has done over the past three years, although he thought the final three games of the 2009 season were crucial both to the coach and the organization after a troubling five-game losing streak. "It was a rough stretch, it was very disappointing," Rooney said of the losing streak. "It basically cost us a chance to defend the title. Read crucial both to the coach and the organization after a troubling five-game losing streak.

3) "I think that was important for the organization and it was important for Mike to show everybody that he's the kind of coach who is not going to lose his team and [who will] keep them in the right direction all the way down to the end," said Rooney. "I think we learned something about Mike, and what we learned I think is positive for the future."

too many I thinks. Tomlin will be gone if he does not make the playoffs next year.

The Rooney's won't put up with losing. Tomlin better figure out how to win games like Cowher did or bye bye Mike.

Advice to the Steelers: Get Ben an o-line before you get him killed.

Rooney won't tolerate losing? He better get used to it IMHO. I haven't forgotten Bubby Brister and Kordell Stewart. Happens to every team. Better pray Polamalu can stay healthy. & Ward and Hampton are on the high side of 30. Say the Steelers have another down year, and he cans Tomlin. Got anymore rabbits you're gonna pull out of your hat? Lane Kiffen may be available.

So Art Looney II is whining because the refs didn't help him get to the superbowl again.

Gosh, that's so sad.

I guess he needs to draft more players who will take out a qb's knee if need be. I mean,

Kimo Von Cheapshottens are hard to come by, and he's gone.

I think the steelers will draft another qb to back up Rothlicksbooger, a nasty, low character big dl, and another

long-haired girlyman with the last name of mollymoomoo. Now, that should be interesting.

But the squeelers still won't get back to the superbowl next year. They're rolling downhill, gathering "no mas". Pun intended.

While mangini looked on to the field with that romeo crennel WTF blank stare tomlin looked onto the field the second half of the year like a scared little boy who wanted to suck his thumb and crawl under the bench and find cowhers phone number for advise...both your coordinators are old and the cowher build is falling apart..now we will get to see what tomlin and rooney II are really made of and im thinking they are made of clay...

The road to the divisional championship next year runs non stop like a runaway train through pittsburgh on its way to to its final destination in cleveland...;)

This Rooney is a fag, to even even be talking about this is shit-ass band wagon thinking that is typical with hillbilly nation. I guess I am not surprised. After the decisions BY THE FRONT OFFICE to get Big Gay knocked on his ass 15 times a game, he wants to come out with this shit? The youngest head coach to lead his team to a Super Bowl victory, followed by a 9-7 season? Yea he lost to some shit teams in his second year. Tomlin is the only thing I find respectful in hillbilly nation.

you are sooo correct. i guess the strong-armed irish mob money ain't flowin' like it used to. the rooneys bank rolled a casino a couple of miles away here in ny a two years ago and has been full of corruption and misdoings since. stick to the irish whiskey ya lush, now that goodell is the commish ya can't be payin off/blowin people like in the old days. i can't even watch a steelers game on tv. it's so blatant and obvious that the refs are throwing flags in favor of shittsburgh, it makes me vomit. fuk them!

These squids live for an opportunity to convince themselves that the Steelers organization may someday be as horrible as the Browns organization, they can't see that the last 40 years have proven it ain't happnin!

Now some dipstick come on here and refer to the Steelers horrible years in the 80's........unfortunately, they can't accept that those horrible years produced better records than 2/3 of the Browns records over the last 40 years.

It's a sickness!

Yeah, and Steeler fans are convinced their front office is so incredible, a return to 80's suckdom is impossible. I saw some cracks in the mighty Patriots foundation when the Ravens creamed them in the playoffs. Can't happen in Pittsburgh? Ask the 49ers about that. Bad draft or two, some key injuries and whammo.

So if you want to believe 5 consecutive losses to bottom feeder teams isn't a serious cause for concern be my guest.

Nope, as I responded earlier, it's the Steeler fans who are living in their nice fantasy world. Rooney would never, ever make a FO mistake. Tomlin is the next Belichek. And he'll prove it. NEXT YEAR. Because next year will be real interesting. SB run- you won a lot of close games, so was that the aberration high water mark, or was last year losing to the Raiders, Chiefs, and Browns the new reality for the Steelers? Six of the Steelers starters on D are over 30, the o-line is a mess, and if Ben goes down, you're headed to the AFC North basement.

Sorry to give you a reality check.

I agree. I am convinced that one of the reasons Cowher retired is that he saw it coming.

So let me get this straight - the Rooneys have decided the Rooney Rule failed them. Works for me!

If you have a bunch of Steeler fans in 1 car consisting of 1 female, 2 males and 1 undecided, who's doing the driving?

The Steelers problems were not on offense. Nor the inability to run the ball. They lost three games because of awful special teams play. That reflects on Tomlin. If he does not fix that soon they will keep losing. They need to shore up special teams all of them return teams and especially kicking teams. They have the weapons to be a pass first dominate offensive team. What they need is a bruiser back who can finish games off like Bettis did. Ben is one of the top three QB's in football and his best in crunch time. Fixing the age on D and those special teams are way more important than dominating run game.

BTW, the dominating run game did the Ravens well last night :rolleyes:

How did I ever guess you squids would be all over that article as soon as it came out?

For the record, Artie did the same thing with/to Cowher before the '05 season. The same little pep talk, only this came with the message "it's time to win it all Bill -- or else."

The million-dollar question: how did that year turn out?

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

As I recall that season ended with the Seattle Seahawks being repeatedly anally violated on National TV by the obviously biased officiating crew. You can bet your acne covered ass that Mr. Holmgren remembers THAT.

So you attribute Rothlisberger being sacked 8 times by the Browns to awful special teams play?

Well Rich I mostly agree with you- the Steelers may possibly have the worst Special teams in the NFL, but that's not the biggest issue. Yeah, they need another Jerome Bettis- good luck on finding one. But finding adequate pass blockers has to be their #1 priority. Ben's already taken a severe pounding and he's a candidate for a shortened career if the sacks keep piling up at the same rate. And there's the issues of age on D- Hampton is 31, Farrior is 35. That's a lot of holes to try and fill in one offseason.

Yeah, I noticed what a good running game will do in the playoffs- not just the Ravens, the Jets won that game not because of Sanchez, but the superior running attack. I'm glad we don't have to hear Sheps incessant mantra MUUUUUUSSSSSTTTTTT draft qb, MUUUUUUUsssst draft qb. :)

Im a yankee fan and I wouldnt want to go into an orioles forum, let alone a pirates one.. Wait do they have a pirates forum?

How the hell did I miss the gem? Tomlin is not on thin ice and WON'T be on thin ice and I would have said the same the day this mental sh.it was posted. The Rooney's don't bail on their coaches and those comments were more of a Bruce Arians comment than a Mike Tomlin comment.

EDIT: Lol probably because this was posted LAST YEAR! why would someone bump this?

Yeah, I don't know why some troll would bump a year old thread. Unlike some folks, I'll admit I greatly overestimated the demise of the Steelers. Your o-line coach deserves a huge bonus for overcoming the injuries, Mendenhall, Wallace & Hood have stepped it up.

Concerns? Ben's tough, but not invincible- his propensity for taking shots may catch up with him someday.
