I'm not scratching my head - per'se.   But I'm watching the early going between Seattle and Blt and wondering how in the hell they let this game get away from them.   Especially because a lot of what those two teams two defensively, including their personnel, are pretty damn similar.    Will say this, not sure what this 'Cleveland Curse' has been for these teams.  But a lot of the offenses the Browns have played against really shit the bed the following week.  I'm 2 drives in and Geno has made some questionable/rushed decisions.

You're right- the Seahawks game was an odd statistical one to say the least. The Browns had almost 13 minutes more time of possession, out gained them, less penalties, and ran 20 more total plays. The Seahawks were +1 in the turnover category, but that's really the only advantage you see. The Browns just had a lot of sustained drives that led to 0-3 points.

Now this idea I love... However... It would makes us more like the WWF than the NFL... But, I like it none the less from an entertainment POV.. LOL!

The thing is, obviously you have to have the fan prepared ahead of time. So the teams could do tryouts, make them an honorary Brown for the day- it writes itself really.

  3. If a referee makes an egregiously bad call, the head coach can throw the new challenge flag. Once thrown, one fan from the crowd gets to come down and engage in a hockey style battle of fisticuffs with the ref who made the call. If the fan wins, the penalty is negated and the play stands. If the fan loses, the penalty yardage doubles.

This is the definition of win/win. Fans get involved, keeps refs on their toes, who loses?

To me, losing to the Ravens is what it is. They are playing lights out right now, and overall are a top 2-3 team in the NFL. That loss would really pivot the focus to being a top wild card team, which would be right in front of the team given the schedule after Pittsburgh.

I definitely think though Pittsburgh is in that "must win" category. Not only are they direct competition for that WC spot, a loss to them, at home, would be a bad tone setter for the rest of the year.

  5. Stefanski is closer to winning coach of the year than being in serious trouble. Have the Browns gotten lucky breaks? Absolutely. But realizing we had essentially the worst QB play in the league over the course of nearly a month and are firmly in the thick of things is a testament to the job the man is doing.

The reality is, Kev I believe is the most statistically aggressive coach in the NFL if not top 2-3. It's going to drive the ire of us fans when it doesn't work.

he's only 29 [30 next season] and is one of if not the best route-runner in the game

gotta have somebody be the #1.. every time a team tries to have a collection of WR3's, every one turns out to stink

Additionally, while extremely good as a player I'm confident he understands the market for him isn't in the top 7 of the league (where $24 million is roughly). On top of his age, you're right- he's a great candidate for something like you're describing to keep him through his contract in 2024. Dude can still ball and no one on the team appears poised to take over that spot.

Aaaaand it ended up being 60 today.   Only in Ohio can you play 9 holes after work then go to a high school playoff game that's going to be 40-ish degrees within a few hours.

As much as where I live has waned on me, one thing I love is much more consistent weather. The extreme swings kept me sick from November to the new year living in North Carolina.

First off, I started this post on Monday in another tab.  Haven't had even remotely enough time to finish it.  I'm on my way to go drop my car off for some work (pre-winter stuff too.  Because, as luck would have it, mother nature is cool to be a bitch and snow the other day)  I'll be at the gym, sort of writing more down mentally as I go.    But first I wanted to apologize specifically to you for Sunday.    I didn't mean offense or arrogance, but it came across as both and that wasn't my intent.   You're a solid dude and post quality stuff. Again, that's my bad.

Nothing but love big dog - it takes a man to own up to things and I sincerely appreciate it. Can’t say I have that issue here in south Florida- don’t miss the snow one bit.

still shoulda run the damn ball though haha.

Yep- trade deadline has come and gone, and we're going with PJ and DTR as the backups. Nothing like your fall back plan in case of a Watson injury is a quarterback with a sub 50 qbr. And I officially declare Berry to be a doofus for not getting the Browns something better.  🙄

I think it just goes to show the souls are sold with #4- perhaps they thought bringing in a backup could be viewed as dissention among the ranks.

My take on the situation? Berry is a dumb ass if he doesn't do something to rectify the backup quarterback situation while he has the chance. BTW, jrb- it's NOT just for the next two games, it's for the rest of the season. What if down the road Watson has a season ending injury? You can flush any playoff hopes down the toilet if you're relying on PJ being the vehicle to get you there.

Definitely heard on that- I have the same concern. But alas, barring a hail mary it looks like the ship is going to sink or float with Watson for the rest of the season.

Thank dog that lazy fraud Murray isn't playing the Browns.

He steamrolled them both times he and that other Oklahoma QB went head-to-head over the last few years.

It's logical not to roll him out against this defense. First game coming off a major injury on the road for a team that has zero hope of achieving anything this year? They'd be wonky to do that, for sure.

He will definitely start the back half of the season as they are, I'm sure, trying to showcase his talent to have a team want to scoop him (and the contract) up. The following three games are Falcons, Texans, and Rams (and 2 games at home)-certainly makes way more sense to make that the start of that display.

Maybe CLE gets Brisket before 4pm, to start the ultimate fan-fiction timeline. Jacoby comes in, fans roar, he goes 3-0 against AZ, BAL, PIT, Watson goes on season-ending IR due to emotional trauma, super bowl.

I'll secure the directorial rights now haha.

Normally QB trades like this don't make much logical sense. But in this case, Brissett makes a whole lot of sense unless the team feels 110% confident that Watson will be ready without limitations for Baltimore. Having Jacoby for the Balt- Pit games would make a foundational difference and would be worth it for those games alone.

I'm already charting plays, I'll be back on tomorrow to reply to quotes and notifications.

Wanted to hit you guys with something while I'm working.  Just in case you like having conversations and you're willing to  opened to changing your minds about things when new information comes to light. First off, Browns punting average is 45.4 yards. Given field position, that means the ball would have been around the SEA 26, instead of their own 43. A net difference of 17 yards. Now, this is where it gets fun. Seattle had 2 time-outs, but had 6 plays, 5 offensively ran, the 6th being an accepted penalty on the Browns, that covered those 57 yards for a touchdown.  Took a grand total of 72 seconds, just under 1.3 yards per second.  Meaning, had the Browns punted and gave Seattle the additional ground to cover, at that pace, Seattle scores with 25 seconds remaining and still keeps their 2 time outs.

In addition to what was said, this math ain't mathin.

Cleveland was on their own 41 on the 3rd and 3 play. Assuming they don't gain a yard, a 45 yard punt (Cody was averaging 47 in the game, but I'll give you 45), put the ball on the 14 yard line, not the 26. Even using the very flawed methodology of yards per second (which I can truly say I've never seen in my life), you also didn't consider the 10+ seconds a punt takes off the clock as opposed to the time saved from the turnover.

Lastly, I won't add much to what Korsou said. Football can be a simple game sometimes, and Stefanski despite being a very solid coach has a marked problem of overthinking it. The Browns were moving the ball on the ground well, and the QB was a third string guy who missed two wide open people on previous plays. I can't find the statistic, but I recall watching the game that the Browns held the Seahawks to that point to 44 total yards in the 2nd half. Running the ball was the prudent decision, and not choosing it cost the team dearly.

EDIT: I'm taking an educated guess you're presuming the Seahawks get 12 yards return (their average) but in that situation it's very unlikely.

Defense couldn't hold them on the last drive, gave up a TD in ...45 seconds?  I'm shocked it took that long. We had been spinning down a safety over their #2 for a few drives and got away with it.   Probably because, to the shock of a lot of Buckeyes here (including myself) Smith Njiba hasn't been a real cog in the SEA offense like Olave, Wilson, Michael Thomas, Curtis Samuel, Scary Terry and the other OSU receivers are.  So when Schwartz gave them the opening, Hawks finally took it.

Worth pointing out, defense dug a two score hole early and the offense, Yes that includes Stef - dug us out when things were heading towards a blowout on the road.    This gave time for the defense to catch their wind and the defensive staff to make their adjustments per drive.       I just presume that also counts for nothing though?

Look, I'm cool talking football with this board when I have the time.  But that time is less and less these days, and my patience, looking for objectivity and football I.Q. , is even more finite.   You can't give credit to the coaching staff for 99% of the game, putting us in a position to possibly win, then hang them for the other 1% when they don't.   Especially when the defining play literally comes down to what we all know football as - a game of inches.    Half the length of that ball to the right of the Dlines hand and it's likely a completion for a 1st down which ices the game.

But as I'll go back to it, in the mind of the fans, the mythical "other play that ALWAYS WORKS AND WE'LL WIN RUNNING IT" is the correct one.

Dude, stop with the fucking holier than thou bullshit. I played high level high school football and was recruited to play at the collegiate level. I understand the game perfectly fine. Surely someone with your immense knowledge understands the very basic principle of pinning a team deep when your defense have dominated the entire half versus giving them a huge momentum turnover and a much shorter field. Or do you wanna show a bunch of pictures of what he should have done despite being an XFL QB who didn’t cut making the Bears roster this year.

I’m a dad and do a damn good job 99% of the time. But if I leave the cabinet full of chemicals open to take a dump and my kid chugs Clorox, I’m still a bad father. At the end of the day I set up someone who I knew could make a terrible decision despite them knowing better or making the smart decision.

That was a stupid fucking decision by Stefanski. come on man. He’s a very good coach who made a very bad decision.

He's the type of mind, the type of program clinger, that will allow himself to be used as a pawn.  He's Rain Man. He's intelligent and driven enough to do the one thing - but not enough to coordinate and do the rest.

Homeboy went to the naval academy. I know they have both Intel and counter Intel courses.  There's no way he was a good Marine if you're being caught using your own damn debit card and name to buy and transfer tickets.   That's just anvil dumb..

Edit: basically saying he's a (large) cog of a greater scheme.

Literally the most arrogant guy I know, my dads cousin, went to West Point. He’s about to go to jail for tax fraud because and I quote he was “smarter than the IRS”. Growing up in a military family, arrogance supersedes smarts way more than you think. It could easily be hubris more so than idiocy.

To be sure, I’m not calling you out because I actually take your side more than what im arguing. But I wouldn’t be oh crap surprised if this dude went Loco.
