3rd and 1 play action pass to cooper for 30 yards was awesome  baker would have over thrown him

That was an awesome play and Baker missed 100% of those. Isn't Baker now the lowest ranked QB in the NFL while Brissett is now 10-12?

    My musings-

    1) Brissett is exactly the QB that can lead this offense to nearly it's full potential. JB is currently 10th in QBR (and that includes a below average 42.7 week one). Our beloved Mayfield is currently dead last. Nothing showed that more than the 3rd and 1 deep throw to Cooper. Yeah he may have been pretty open, but that's still a clutch throw (and excellent play call). Simply put, this team can do more than just compete with that level of QB play.

    2) How many times can I say what a treat it is to watch Chubb run the football? We love the gash runs, but the dirty work wins games. The way the dude turns -3 yard runs to at least 2-3 yard carries is the best I've ever seen with my two eyeballs.

    3) IDL is an absolute nightmare, and losing Walker and potentially JOK is going to be brutal. It's going to lead to even more base looks and bail coverage leading to easy throws. When we start playing the Herberts and Burrows of the world, it could get ugly fast in terms of completion %. That man was NOT getting beat over the top last night though, that's for sure. Sadly, there's no fix for that- just have to hope guys develop.

Some idiot on this forum was laughing when I said Brissett looked better than Mayfield in the first game.  Unlike Mayfield he knows his limitations and isn't a wannabe superstar. Look at the chemistry between him and Cooper in just 3 games, Mayfield couldn't do that in one and a half seasons with OBJ.

    Well said!

Did our special teams even practice this week?  Situational football everywhere BUT Cleveland shows us the Jets tried a pass on 3rd and 1 knowing they're right near midfield, also knowing they're going to take 2 shots at getting 1 yard against a far less prepared opponent regardless of what formation they lined up in on 4th down.  If anyone remembers the last time the Jets beat us in the last few years - that kid Berrios returned either a punt or a kickoff for a TD.  Why did our STs Coordinator have our kicker putting air under the kickoffs so that kid could have a shot at repeating history when our kicker can easily kick them out of the end zone? Our punter kicked ass IMO but outkicking coverages with a dangerous return man like that can lead to trouble.  Fortunately, we had a real long one go out of bounds for no return later in the game so that was 1 thing to be happy about.

Having said that, the Browns missed an extra point.  Also, they weren't any more prepared for the onside kick than they were for the fake punt earlier in the game. That old saying, "it's not about the size of the dog in the fight - it's about the size of the fight in the dog" you just witnessed it. That starts with your week of preparation or lack there of.  It also shows up in who outhustles who for any loose footballs on the ground.  It also starts with the self responsibility EACH PROFESSIONAL has to learn from his previous mistakes.

Do you know what leads to a lot of arm tackles and bad open field tackling?  Guys aren't reading their pre-snap cues so when passes are completed while they are out of position to defend them, they now have to hustle to the ball which often shows them unable to square up to make the tackle in lieu of desperately reaching out to grab someone they aren't in position to tackle.  That's what often happens when you see a defender running past the guy he is supposed to tackle.  You play football with your eyes or you fail folks.  Our defense isn't playing football with their eyes.  I hate to say it this early, but there should be a short leash on Grant Delpit this week. A lot of people spent all last week only worrying about Brissett.  He PREPARED for the Jets a lot better than some of the starters on that freakin defense and maybe even some of our coaches on defense and special teams.  But hey, if some of you only want to worry about Brissett - feel free to waste your energy again this week!

If someone beats the Browns because they are better - I can live with that somewhat.  If someone beats the Browns because they out-prepared them and remained the hungrier dog in the fight overall - I'm very disappointed.

I've watched nearly every Browns game since the return and this was one of the worst losses because of our purported talent level. Brissett played well enough to win, connected well with his receivers. For some reason I had a bad feeling when Cade York missed the extra point and wasn't surprised they lost the onside kick. Delpit should be benched he nearly cost us one game and cost us another. With this loss I now know we'll be in for a long season not just because of everyone's whipping boy Brisset but coaching from the head on down.

I appreciate your feedback and totally agree with your line of thinking/points made.  I think we can all agree that Joe Burrow is a better QB than either choice we have right now. Well, Pittsburgh just picked him off 4 times and 1 of those was a pick 6 by Fitzpatrick.  Let's not race Dobbs into something even worse against Pitt in a week and a half. We just saw what an advantage it was to our DC/Defense to hold a QB's limitations/vulnerabilities against him that they saw every day in practice the last 2 years.  Do we really want to hurry him into that already?

Dobbs has been in the NFL since 2017. During his last regular season game reps in 2020 for Pitt - he completed 4 of 5 passes for 2 yards, 0.4 yds avg, 0 TD, 0 INT.  If we include Dobbs' Jax stats for his NFL career regular season total, we're looking at 10 of 17, 58.8 cmp%, 45 yards, 4.5 yd avg, 0 TD, 1 INT,  39.1 passer rating, longest completion of pro career = 22 yards.  Does that add up to anything more than deer in headlights?

I'm not saying I'm opposed to giving him a look if Jacoby doesn't start looking more comfortable over the next 2 games (that are only 11 days apart).  In that case, they could start that by giving him a series or 2 and gradually increasing the workload (giving opponents 2 different guys to prepare for.  He's got some good wheels that can help open up our passing game.  That said, when I lived in TN and had season tix to Vandy Games - I also watched/recorded a lot of UT games when their matchups intrigued me. I saw Dobbs play a lot in the SEC; and  I've seen his legs give his team a spark.  However, I've also see him with a bad habit of not looking for receivers wide open downfield once he broke contain outside the pocket.  When that goes on film, the next opponent will have a coach watching what he does the very first time they flush him from the pocket in terms of if he's looking for receivers or just where to run only. Once he showed them he couldn't shake the bad habit, they shut him down running the ball and dared him to beat them with his arm.  That remained a work in progress; and now he's on his 3rd NFL team with pretty much the same story.  I do think his accuracy and arm strength is much improved - it's still the vision I worry about when there's pressure.

Good news?  He's a great kid that had a 4.0 GPA in Aerospace Engineering.  I like him and think he can help us if we don't race him into things before he's ready.  In the meantime, let's get behind the guy that wants to help the Browns win and grow together as a team for at least his 2nd start.

Agree give Jacoby at least a few games, how hot did all pro Russell Wilson look yesterday on his new team?

As a Cleveland Browns fan I apologize for NOTHING!  Keep in mind, if that was Bernie Kosar or someone else you approved of - you would have been saying that was a great call that needed to be made. This game was won in the trenches not by the guys blowing whistles. Go look at what team ran the ball and what team could not. McCaffrey finished with 33 yards rushing. Any questions? Putting together only 5 or 6 minutes of acceptable offense in a 60 minute contest doesn't have anyone thinking the Panthers deserved to win.  The Browns also had a sack nullified on a very questionable roughing the passer call earlier in the game.  People can see what they want to on the play you are complaining about.  That said, a defensive player cannot hit a QB in the helmet even if it is only by accident in trying to block a pass when he is in the intimate space of the passer. But if this makes any hurt feelings less hurtful - that 58 FG was high enough up on the net 10 yards behind the goal post to assure all viewers the FG would have been good from about 78 yards away.

Next, how many quarters did it take for Baker to get the ball up over/past our defensive line with any consistency?  If you saw the game Cal; and I'm not sure you did judging by you thinking the better team lost - this was blatant.  They're gonna be the spending the rest of the year in PRO FOOTBALL - game planning for this reality "SO, HOW DO WE THROW THE BALL OVER THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE THIS WEEK AGAINST ANOTHER EXTREMELY WELL PREPARED DEFENSE?"  If there's a kryptonite that stops a QB - it is now in every film room of the defenses he will face the rest of the year. They're going to be seeing how McCaffrey only had 4 catches for 24 yards (most of them on 1 play) while DJ Moore was held to just 3 receptions on 6 targets for 43 yards. I doubt any of them are going to think Carolina got screwed on the scoreboard.

Our backup QB was an effective game manager yesterday.  1 TD pass: 0 INTs.  The last time he started 15 games was in 2019 where he had 18 TD Passes: 6 INTs for the Colts.  That's a very respectable 3:1 ratio that could work well with this team.  For example, if you look at what the ball control offense did via the 1-2 punch of Chubb and Hunt - the Browns didn't need a "gotta risk it for biscuit" mentality from their passer.  It's only week 1 but I think I'd rather have Jacoby's challenges than the ones I saw haunting Baker yesterday.

Great analysis, while watching that game I didn't miss Baker one bit. The same management that drafted the kicker thought Brisset would be a better back up to Watson, guys are over thinking things here. Yes Brisset did miss some easy throws but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for the first game as our run game is our forte anyway. Haven't opposing defenses been stacking the box the last two years anyway, did anyone really respect Baker's arm to throw accurately? I trust our O line to shove guys out of the way and create running lanes by force of will.

I wouldn't call enabling a Sexual Predator a great day... However, For the sake of the team... I hope he learns his lesson and does well for us... I'm not a huge LBJ fan... But he came back and did what was asked of him... And we got our first Larry O'Brien...

He lost 6 game checks how is that enabling him? How much did the Texans lose proportionately given that they were the real enablers? All professional sports are tainted, occasionally the mask slips off to expose the darkness that it really underlies it let's not fool ourselves.

It's almost like no one is really that interested in Baker Mayfield.

And with Indianapolis off the market, and their penchant for making stupid trades and giving away high picks to do it, that was the Browns chance to get something of value for him. There's speculation the Browns might have to just release him.

Doesn't the rest of the NFL know that the only thing holding him back was the Browns drafting a WR for him?

Yeah, we were villified for suggesting OBJ's lack of production was due to poor QB play. Glad the front office realized that a rookie WR wasn't going to fix that and traded for a better QB before our window closes

    The attorney who:

    1. Accepted donations to his mayorial campaign from, guess who, McNair, owner of the Texans
    2. Who lives on the same street as the McNair
    3. Whose wife is friends with McNair's grand daughter
    4. Has a reputation as an ambulance-chaser

Why did all this surface only after he requested a trade? Angry billionaire and scummy lawyer scratch each others back to punish Watson and make scummy lawyer richer? Too many coincidences to ignore.

Here's the submission to the court from Watson's attorney, make up your own minds, but he does make an excellent case pointing out all the inconsistencies in the prosecution's case:

Back in the day it was not hidden or passed off as a massage parlor. It was the best little whorehouse in Texas in La Grange. Damn that Marvin Zindler for forcing it all underground.🤠

A decent private eye would try to find if a lot of their "customers" get similar "special treatment".

Hate to be graphic but how do you force someone into receiving fellatio without raping them? Jedi mind trick? He was never charged with rape.

What I don't like is his poor record against winning teams. Just what the Browns need.

"Since entering the NFL in 2017, Deshaun Watson is 7-19 (.269) against teams that finished the season with a winning record."

"In 2020, Deshaun Watson was 0-9 (.000) against winning teams as the starting quarterback."

2020 was a tank job, didn't want to be part of a rebuild which is why he demanded a trade then in good ole Texas style the sexual allegations flood in. Not saying they didn't happen but football towns have a way of suppressing leaks of these events. Brett Favre didn't start doing similar behavior only when he joined the Jets, definitely happened in Green Bay I'm sure.

  11. Like the trade as only some draft capital lost, no players traded especially defense. Much better deal than Denver’s for Wilson. This puts us in SB contention now, a high powered offense (with a QB who can actually find his open receiver) with a very good defense especially if Clowney resigns. The Browns paid him more money to pay for the projected civil lawsuit damages and pay off anyone else.

  12. The bottom line is if Baker was good enough, they wouldn't need to attempt to clumsily upgrade the position. He should man up, play lights out this season (if he can) then walk out as a free agent not whine and request a trade. Joe Burrow went to the SB on a team with half our talent.

This play right here shows you everything you need to see in where the elite skill at the positions of WR and QB just aren't in Cleveland currently. While the throw is insane, the route running by Kupp  is a work of art. I believe in Mayfield improving, but that shit right there wins games when it matters.

Need an elite QB and WR on this roster for meaningful SB aspirations.
