Watson's career is over. He's going to stick it out because $150M, but the dude's shoulder is never going to be the same. He already had a noodle arm before the glenoid broke. I've never seen any case reports of a throwing athlete coming back from this injury to his throwing arm. If we get rid of Flacco, I'm going to lose my mind.

Not sure I’m in agreement about the noodle arm, watsons cannon is far above average. He never had a problem slinging it, he struggled more with the timing required to run stefanskis offense.

The reason you haven’t seen athletes come back from it is because it’s such a rare injury, but the recovery time is only 6-12 weeks I think? Seems like a relatively minor arthroscopic surgery in the scheme of things. I think he’ll be fine, and he’s definitely going to be a better option than 39 going on 40 Flacco (next year). Should we keep Flacco as a backup though, absolutely - but it’s ultimately up to Flacco who may be getting starter calls after the year. He operates the west coast/stefanski offense so beautifully that he’d be a treasure to keep in the QB room.

If Flacco can continue the winning trend, it’s kind of ironic that the Ravens are responsible for knocking Watson out for the year which is why we called Flacco

As he heads to the IR, Hurst made a point to express his gratitude to his fellow teammates, the Browns, and the city of Cleveland:

“My 2023 season is over, and the frustration is unbearable. However I am grateful to my teammates, coaches, staff, and the city of Cleveland for welcoming me and making me a part of this family…. I’ll be back better than before.”

Gonna miss the belly rubs, he was having a career year I think top 15 ranked DT, but he plays 40% of snaps and I think we have the depth to fill it - maybe siaki ika can fill in.

Hats off to Andrew berry for filling this team with incredible depth - aside from the QB position until recently 😁At least we can all admit we were wrong about dobbs

he just wants his 2 more wins

Best case scenario is they finish 9-8 and Pickett lights up the ravens backups (or not backups, who cares) in week 18

Then they miss the playoffs, get a shitty draft pick, and can think Pickett is their guy for at least another year

  4. The hits keep coming

    ---

    Also this week:

Dawand Jones placed on IR, with MCL surgery

Mo Hurst Jr. on season ending IR with a pec injury

Grant Delpit on IR with a groin injury, will miss at least 4 games

Ogbonnia Okoronkwo has a pectoral injury that may end up season ending, probably awaiting tests

    I think that's a reasonable take.

But hell with that. Beat da Bears, & hopefully a couple AFC 7-6 teams go down, but you can't bank on it(Colts/Steelers is a pretty big game for both teams).

I’m all about the Joe Flacco redemption arc 😁

I’m not too worried about the browns making the wild card at this point, more about what they’ll do after they make it. If Joe evolves into January Joe anything is possible.

  6. Speaking of playoffs, man so many teams look vulnerable among the AFC teams.

Chiefs, Dolphins are not the power houses people thought early on. Colts, Jags, Texans are all pretty “mid”

The Ravens seem the best, but as we proved they are beatable. And hopefully Lamar continues his trend of being blinded by the bright lights.

I wish we were healthier because it really feels like this could have been the year.

    edit:

of the teams in the hunt I hope the Bills miss it, they seem like they could be the most dangerous of that bunch…

Browns sack Justin Fields 9 times

Sunday won’t go as smoothly, but Fields still crumbles under pressure this year so it’s crucial the browns pass rush makes him feel it on Sunday.

FWIW, the short attention spans have so quickly forgotten our wonderous seasons under the likes of  Mike Pettine, Hueless "the Clueless" Jackson, and Freddie "in the" Kitchens.

Some guys aren't going to be satisfied until we hire the next Chuck Noll, and win a few Super Bowls.

Add in Kev has a knack bringing in top assistant coaches like Schwartz, Stump Mitchell, and Bill Callahan.

Let’s hope Kevin is the next Chuck Noll or Bill Bellichik (obviously he can’t even be compared at this point, but his career is young and he has an owner willing to outspend even the big market teams). I like that he seems to be getting better every season, if you don’t have the growth mindset then you end up like the Steelers who spend a decade on the upper end of mediocre.

Steelers fans overestimate their roster but I do think Tomlin has probably run his course over there. When you’re a playoff team and guys are still crying on the sidelines and fighting each other there’s probably a leadership problem.

Couldn't see the game, just watched the 15 min highlights video.  Why did the Jags go for 2 at the end of the game?

I feel like that just adds more risk and more ways to lose.  I mean, if you convert the 2 pointer, you still need the FG to win.  If you don't convert you need a TD.  But if you kick the extra point, the TD still wins the game, but a FG at least ties it.  (of course the onside kick is in every scenario)

They went for 2 twice, one time had a delay of game and kicked it. It’s for a couple reasons one of which being analytics. It’s a 50/50 thing and they were ok taking the chance with the browns home defense.

The other thing I’ve heard is their punter was hurt who is their field goal holder. They may not have been comfortable with the risk of #2 idk

I think it’s dumb, but with their division rivals losing and onside kick being such a rare play they wanted to go for the win. I can respect the call by Pederson, don’t think it was a bad one. First one was pretty dumb but they ended up kicking the PAT because of the penalty.

  10. Jones was a solid backup to Conklin, I wonder if his massive size may lead to more lower body injuries that could derail his career. Heard it’s an MCL and he’ll be ready to go before next season.

Wills will be back and we have decent depth otherwise, Pocic injury didn’t seem serious too. If anyone can keep the group playing well it’ll be Callahan. Maybe they’ll need to add another depth piece though.

Actually bb, I'm worried about all our remaining games. Just this past week...  In the doormat division, Patriots beat Steelers- on the road...  Jets smear the playoff quality Texans... And Da Bears easily handled the Playoff bound Lions.

On any given Sunday- or Saturday this week for that matter.  About 5 games that will have huge playoff implications.... Vikings- Bengals, Broncos- Lions, Texans- Titans, Cowboys- Bills, and Ravens- Jaguars...  I'd actually prefer that the Colts beat the Steelers, because we own the head to head tiebreaker with them.

Any given Sunday is true…but gotta love that the browns control their own destiny this late and will probably be favored in all their remaining games in December.

i really like this teams odds in the last stretch now that the offense is clicking. They just have to fix their turnover problem or else we’ll be a first round exit.

The Jets are getting hot too as are the Bengals.  Gotta win these.  Teams 1 game behind us like Denver and Pitt have the tie breaker edge with us.

My neighbor is a Bears' fan and every Sunday as soon as they get behind he texts a lot of us on our street that he's done with them.  It reminds me of that Dr Pepper Commercial/Video someone shared where all the fans of a team throw a fit, break stuff and start a bon fire to burn their clothes when the sheriff interrupts them with some thing like - "Take it easy - that was only the 1st play of the game!"

I’m not worried about anybody on our schedule really, I think the bengals run is going to fall flat because of their schedule and tie breaker positioning. If they are eliminated by week 18 it will be 95% Cleveland fans in Cincinnati that week.

I wouldn’t call the Jets hot, they caught the Texans on a very bad day and that’s about the only positive offensive game all year.

Bears probably scare me the most out the remaining teams, which I wouldn’t have expected to say a few weeks ago. They are going nowhere but are getting hot and playing for a long shot playoff scenario.

Absolutely- if you believe Vegas he has the 12th best odds: https://www.vegasinsider.com/nfl/odds/coach-of-the-year/

Honestly, COTY has most years turned into a bit of a popularity contest. I think Dan Campbell is a great coach but I simply don't believe he's a stronger candidate given their roster and division.

Campbell definitely should be losing some points now, though I like him as a coach still - at least his personality.

They are looking more like fakers - barely squeaking by bad teams, getting trounced by good ones. (And also getting trounced by some bad ones - including on Thanksgiving day).

Demeco Ryans is probably the favorite, if the Texans make the playoffs. Otherwise, I'm not so sure anymore. Has anyone won COTY without making the playoffs before?

The Browns literally took a 38 year old QB off the couch to be the 4th QB to start. This season we've beaten the following teams, all of which would be in the playoffs if the season ended today:

    - Steelers

    - 49ers

    - Ravens

    - Jaguars

    - Colts

    - Bengals (who I get are on the outside but right there)

and are in the drivers seat to be a playoff team this year. Despite this, some of you clowns are still suggesting Stefanski isn't an extremely quality head coach. It's like you all forget the days of Pat Shurmer looking like he saw the face of God on the sideline every week.

The fact Kevin isn't a serious contender for COY is crazy to me.

I think he is a COTY contender there’s just other good contenders too that haven’t won it before.

It’s hard to argue with the results, he’s adapted the offense to multiple style of QBs too seamlessly. Watson the mobile star power guy opens things up the most, but also DTR the rookie who is limited in downfield ability, Walker who is limited in every ability, and Flacco who is a pure pocket passer.

Just look at what the Jets and Broncos (at the time) incompetent coaching did to Flacco vs how Kevin’s offense has him looking like he’s 26 again. It also could be said that he had a role in cementing Kirk cousins as a starter.

The team has bought into Kevin big time.
