Oh Labatt's Blue used to be one of my favorites haven't had it in awhile. Definitely a gameday man cave selection of brews! :)

Funny story. Our Priest seldom drinks, but has attended the Draft Party every year. The 1st year, he asked for another beer & when I asked him if he had a preference, he said he really liked the stuff in the blue can. I still tease him about that (AND ask him if he wants to try the Old Leghumper), but I always make sure there's always Labatt's here for Father.

Jalapeños really vary in hotness. Different strains go from damn near mild to pretty hot. Once you deseed and cook they lose quite a bit of the fire. When I make these even the people who aren't chili heads devour them. Sometimes I stuff the pepper with sausage and cheese and then bacon wrap.

Removing seeds & veins from jalapenos (or any hot pepper) will "cool" them considerably. Also, the ones gown in the hot, dry southwest will be considerably hotter than those grown around here.

We have bought seasoning and rubs for many years many online like Emeril's now available everywhere like Walmart. You can even make them yourself at home.

Best with chicken but rubs for nearly everything.

I make all my own rubs. It started over 20 years ago when I, being less than pleased with store bought fried turkey rubs, started experimenting & developed a rub for deep fried turkey that's excellent & I never have to worry about it being "discontinued".

Next time you make it down Texas way I'll have to have you over for Elgin Sausage on the grill Mike. You can eat it like a hot dog or you can serve it solo with sides. Either way it's good sausage from Elgin, Texas. Served with a Shiner Bock from Shiner, Texas and you're set to go back to Ohio with a smile. Nothin' better. All you have to do is take the straight shot up Tollway 130 about an hour from SA at 85-80 MPH (legal limits for that road with minimal traffic). Worth the tolls that they bill by license plate or windshield tag if your daughter has one. Be happy to entertain you and your family if they want to come along.       Bill

    Bill,

Right now, Shiner Bock is on sale here for $12.99 a 12 pack (6 packs still $8.99). I've bought all 4 12 packs they had 2 weeks running & headed back for more tomorrow!  :P

BTW, just got (via USPS) my HEB order for Gebhardts & Adams chili powders. Will place an order soon with Penderys for some chilis.

I'm with Canton Mike- no beans in the chili please.  :)

Regarding seafood- I'm weird in that respect- I have one (of many) food rules. If it came out of the water, I don't eat it. Once upon a time I thought I might like grilled swordfish, but I was wrong. Way back, up in Alaska I took a few nibbles of my pal's alderwood smoked salmon, and didn't like it very much. I can put a shrimp in my mouth, and five minutes later, I'm still chewing on it. Lobster? Forget it. Vacationing with my pals in Bar Harbor I told them- "the only good lobster is a dead lobster". I'll happily cook them for you on one condition- you have to eat them. Just the sight of an oyster grosses me out. You'd think growing up on the shores of Lake Erie I would eat yellow perch that were caught only a few hours ago, but I've never warmed to that stuff..

    Hey Larry,

Some day go to The Black Pelican in Kitty Hawk, NC. Try the blackened tuna or at least the "grilled tuna bites with salsa". I get BOTH every trip & even "fish haters" in my family love these. Both are very flavorful without a "fishy" taste.

Reminds me of the "clam" chowder my wife and I got at a restaurant in Cheyenne once. They said it was the specialty of the house and people came from miles around to get it. They were right about one thing, you could not use "clams" to describe it, only clam because that was the count in each of our bowls. We had to explain to them that my wife was raised on the water in R.I. and knew what real N.E. clam chowder was supposed to be and that wasn't it. Now living here in Texas I can see that your spaghetti up there in no way resembles chili. LOL!:P

#1...I LOVE seafood, but I WILL NOT order it inland. If you have ever eaten good seafood on the coast, you'll understand.

#2...Cincinnati chili (IMHO) SUCKS! Family members LOVE it, but I was very disappointed. I like good, spicy chili & that means with NO BEANS!!!  For hotdogs, I "tweeked" a Mr Food coney sauce recipe that has become a favorite among friends.

Speaking of gameday there is a very good chance my wife and I will be driving to Ohio this fall for a reunion to celebrate the 80th birthday of one of our favorite HS teachers when we lived in Venezuela. We'll be staying about 50-60 miles south in Amish country and likely can combine it with a game if the Browns play @ home either Sept. 29 or Oct. 6. As the time gets closer I'll want both directions to parking and to tailgate with you jackasses. Be nice to put some faces with the BS.  Are the fall colors in full bloom by then?

Bill, I look forward to actually meeting you in person. If you're driving, try to stop in Memphis to eat at Corky's BBQ. Not sure about the fall colors, but you just may hit it right...all depends on weather, which hasn't exactly been predictable in recent years.

  8. Perhaps true. Nevertheless....if the Cavs were to make a trade with them....one of them would have to be included.

But, here is my view: King the Cavs should send Kyrie to the Siberia of the NBA: the Sacramento s. They always suck....but they do have some nice young players.

    BINGO!

  9. i think it is all on Kyrie who is showing himself to be selfish and stupid. Any team with Kyrie as the "Alpha Dog"...as good as he is, would still be lucky to make .500....or even make the playoffs. (We had him here for 3 years without LeBron..and where were we?). Any team with LeBron is a championship contender.

No one can win by themselves....but LeBron comes as close as anyone who has played to doing that. Kyrie can't.

The old "he would rather be the big fish in the little pond" scenario for Kyrie I guess.

Kyrie couldn't win before LBJ returned, can't hold a lead now when LBJ rests. I, for one, will welcome getting PLAYERS and ridding our Cavs of the "mad dribbling, low assist" Kyrie. He's very talented, but not a Team player. No great loss & MAY end up being a building block.

  10. For a one tank trip, I have a suggestion....Warther's Museum in Dover, Ohio.

Moony Warther was a wood carver of trains, etc & his carvings look MACHINED! For those of you who appreciate a skilled craftsman, this is a MUST SEE. The man had a grade school education but was truly a genius. If you have been there, you know what I mean.

As a side benefit, their gift shop sells their cutlery, which will stack up against others much more expensive. I own 3 different sizes of Warther's filet knives & they simply can't be beat. They make great gifts & are very affordable.
