I’m interested in what you think is going on?

We have given Israel $3B/year since Obama has been in office. We are also sending our Patriot missiles and other munitions to supply them. They are a first-world country with a top 10 military. If they can't defeat Hamas with that astronomical amount of military aid, then why on earth do they deserve more of our money? Same with Ukraine, this $50B package isn't going to change the outcome of the war.  If they want to kill each other so badly, then they can do it without us being a party to it.

I am an America first voter. I don't care who controls the Israel Gaza border. I don't care who controls the Russia Ukraine border. Our foreign policy shouldn't create a bunch of refugees who will come here and flood the labor market. Our foreign policy shouldn't worsen inflation that's been out of control since COVID.

Yemen is going to hold the Mandeb strait hostage as long as Israel keeps killing Gazans. This worsens inflation.
Cutting Russia's economy out of the Western markets has reduced supply of all sorts of metals and fertilizers. This worsens inflation.
If we keep kowtowing to Israel, don't be surprised when a cornered Iran shuts down the Hormuz. This will also worsen inflation.

You can clearly see that inflation peaked shortly after we enacted Russian sanctions. It hasn't gone back down to less than 3% since the pandemic started.

I don't see this going any further.

I just feel anything Biden says at this point is for political points, why say anything?

I don't think Israel has any intention of doing anything else here, Biden doesn't need to say we won't support them if they decide to go in.

I hope you're right about this going no further, but I disagree with the rest.

Biden is completely deserving of criticism for allowing things to get to this point, and it's gotten this bad because he's kowtowed to Israel every time up until now. But this is the first time he has done something right, showing a spine and using his influence as the most powerful man in the world to bring Netanyahu to heel and try and de-escalate the situation. If the US military attacks Iranian soil, then that is the start of World War 3. It is insane how the people frothing at the mouth for US intervention, such as Tennessee Senator, Marsha Blackburn, seem to be forgetting that Israel is a foreign country.

"overwhelmed" ??? I'd say the defenses were oustanding - a huge success.

Yes, the defenses stopped a lot but they were saturated to the point that missiles got through to target. I wouldn't be feeling all that good if I was an IDF general, knowing that Iran is not far off from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Iran now knows the threshold it takes to get one through Iron Dome.

  4. That is not an alliance. Allies do not shoot down each other's drones/missiles. The US Navy helped provide Israel with defense against yesterday's attack.

Israel killed 4 IRGC generals by bombing an Iranian embassy.
Iran killed no Israelis, slightly damaged two airfields (one of which IDF posted an F-35 taking off from today).

Israel is the clear winner of this exchange. They don't need to escalate further.

  5. Iran escalated by attacking Israel military bases directly with a salvo of drones and ballistic missiles. This was a direct response to their consulate being bombed in Syria and probably also to placate the Iranian populace. It will be interesting to see how Israel responds. Biden administration has stated publicly that there will be no American offensive response to Iran.

Biden argued to Netanyahu that the assassination of 4 IRGC high-ranking officers in exchange for some minor damage to two airfields a win for Israel. Reminder, the Knesset was looking to put Netanyahu in prison for corruption before the Oct 7 attacks, so I'm not sure he sees it the same way. As soon as this crisis ends, the Israeli people are going to vote him out and/or jail him. There is an opportunity for de-escalation here, but we'll see what Israel decides to do.

Arms race implications of this attack are pretty big. The Iron Dome, Patriot missiles, and scrambled fighter jets were overwhelmed by a relatively small salvo. What's new is the ballistic missiles with the final stage booster. Those are going to be exceptionally difficult to target.

I remember your posts before you even went to Medical School.  You were a hardcore liberal then.  You've gone way more center now.

I still categorize myself as a classical liberal. I feel that I haven't moved much.

    I'm still anti-military industrial complex.
    I'm still for whistleblower protection.
    I'm still pro-choice.
    I'm still anti-censorship.
    I'm still pro-gun rights.
I'm still against illegal immigration and for legal immigration.
    Religious zealots still annoy me.

“NPR’s service to this aspirational mission was called in question this week, in two distinct ways,” continued Maher, who previously served as CEO of Wikimedia and as a member of the State Department’s Foreign Affairs Policy Board started under then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “The first was a critique of the quality of our editorial process and the integrity of our journalists. The second was a criticism of our people on the basis of who we are.”

Welp. In the trash it will remain.

Clearly Trump is just saying whatever to win. I mean, that's politics. Not unique to him.

But for pro life posters here, do you think this is a state's rights issue?

Thoughts on Arizona falling back to a law from the civil war that basically bans abortion?

What Arizona supreme court did is a power grab by people who can't be reasoned with because they truly believe they're stopping murders. I suspect the legislative and executive branches will force this to come to a vote. I also suspect, like Ohio, Arizona will vote for the right for women to have an abortion. Checks and balances will come out on top.

If it doesn't get overturned, then he won't be winning arizona.

that is bs - I read it, but you are pro-terrorists in gaza, so you can't defend the meaning of the Hannibal directive. A lot of people are born on Oct. 7 - does that make for a slur that says they are Jewish victims of Oct. 7th?

Did you know that on Oct. 7th, Spain outlawed slavery in Cuba?  in 1886....

and Oct 7th, Willem 1 resigned as king of the Netherlands? (1840)

on Oct 7th, a 16 hour fire injured 30 of Chicago's 185 firefighters? (1871 - it was probably started by your palestinian terrorists)

On Oct 7th, 1916, The German submarine U-53 arrives off Newport, Rhode Island, and sinks 9 British merchant ships in international waters.... you know, the german kidnappers, torturers, murderers and rapist war criminals just like your palestinian terrorists and hamas.

On Oct 7th, 1935, Himmler, Hess and Heydrich inspect the concentration camp at Dachau. Your palestinian terrorists would put Jews into concentration camps I believe. You support that unconditionally? You know, the war criminals just like your palestinian terrorists and hamas?

on Oct 7th, 1944, there was the Revolt at Auschwitz-Birkenau - the  Uprising at Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, Jews burn down crematoriums [1] You know, how your palestinian terrorists and hamas burned babies alive and you refuse to admit it?

say, this should excite you -

ON OCT 7th, your PLO terrorists seize Italian cruise liner Achille Lauro. But you support your palestinians unconditionally, right?

On Oct 7th, 1990, Israel begins handing out gas masks to its citizens. You know, because of terrorism. like the terrorism your palestinian terrorists have perpetrated against innocent Israeli citizens since they became a country, and many centuries BEFORE they became a country.

Say, here';s one - on OCT 7th - 2015 US President Barack Obama apologises to Doctors without Borders President and the President of Afghanistan for the bombing of a hospital in Kunduz

But that is okay with you because it was your obaMao commie. But let Israel make a mistake, and "they should withdraw and lose the war" eh?

So, being a smart ass because you can't defend your pro-palestinian bias doesn't work.

so, what the hell are you emotionally venting about now?

The hannibal direction had to do with captured soldiers.

    You know - terrorism.

Are you capable of reading the links you post? (No)

If you scroll down, you'll see the part where the Hannibal directive was applied on Oct 7. So thank you for proving my point.

You'd look like less of a dunce if you'd stop FEELING like a liberal and use your brain to think.

  11. I was in NC for the 2017 eclipse. I think the sun was about 97% covered at that location. It's unreal how much light that 3% provides. For me, the reaction to 2017 was "well, that was neat, haven't seen it since 94." In contrast, today was a spiritual experience. Being able to actually look at it with the naked eye. Crickets started up when it went dark, and when the light came back, spring peepers started croaking.
