    Week 1

Good stuff Ice! Not many disagreements but I think we have a better group of corners. I also think a healthy Joe Schobert is a very underrated LBer - as much as I am aware he didn't have his best season in 2018 playing w/ a bad hammy. When I saw him against Tampa a couple weeks ago - he looked like the healthy, Pro Bowl alternate version we saw here in 2017. He was everywhere. Now that we have 4 legitimated starters upfront as opposed to only 2 last year - I give the advantage at LBer to Cleveland. RB - This is extremely close. I know TN finished 6th overall at running the ball in 2018 and Cleveland finished 14th. That said, if Chubb started sooner - I think this gets a whole lot closer. Chubb led the NFL in yards after contact in 2018 and averaged 5.2 yards per carry as a rookie. Your summary is spot on...
  3. Lucky for him, Austin Corbett has no intentions of opening up his playbook again this year. I'm guessing he can just barrow that one...
  4. They also went undefeated without scoring any points and giving up any points...
  5. 😄 Duck tape actually began as strips of cloth with an adhesive added - mostly used by soldiers. Then, it was used as Duct Tape primarily in construction. Today, it is known as Duct Tape and sold by 1 company under the brand name Duck. Believe it or not, I got that from my cell phone by asking what came first Duck Tape or Duct Tape. You can try this at home unless you're Gipper. His phone will just think he wants to play Duck Duck Goose Goose again...
  6. Charlie Frye was a backup for Seattle. Weeden was in the league for about 3 years after Cleveland. McCoy is still in the league. Quinn was a backup in Denver for a couple years. Kessler played for Jax last year. Couch had a shoulder injury and tried to make a comeback with GB; but got busted for PEDs in the urine cutting that idea short. All but Johnny Blutarsky were able to find at least 1 other NFL team that would give them another shot - even Kizer.
  7. DT Coley, S Burris were cut and OL Forbes was placed on IR to make room. Someone posted Coley got signed to the practice squad shortly thereafter and Forbes is on the IR List where he can return some time around mid season. Sounds like we only lost 1 guy in all that.
  8. Yeah, but the Rugby background has him thinking like this: "Can't wait to mind phuck the NFL when I show up with longer hair and tighter mini-skirts than Lady GaGa. You gotta be kidding me? I get to wear a helmet and shoulder pads when I have to tackle someone? And this league uses Sports Doctors and Athletic Trainers instead of Duck Tape and Beer from a Keg? And minimum wage to play this game is $250K? I don't care how much they paid Colquitt to punt the ball. This job is mine!"
  9. Good point Orion! But, what do you mean he was 6'4"? He still is - isn't he? True story and don't let him tell you otherwise. Zombo got a 2" bump on the top of his head from getting tackled into the corner of an end table by FatJeff at the Hyatt Hotel. He hasn't stopped bragging about the growth spurt since. I don't know if Atenears put the cold can of beer on the wound for First Aid or to prevent Zombo from telling us he's 6' tall. Irregardless, there's no telling what can happen on a road trip to Cleveland.
  10. No worries. It wasn't a bad point in the sense of neither guy made the active roster. In the same way I saw Josh Cribbs, Miller probably would have been a better RB than WR seeing how often both guys ran the ball throughout their college football experience. Seems like they were better trained to run the ball IMO. Aggies just catches me off guard with that sense of humor of his. Excreting coffee through my nose = worthy of acknowledgment and reply.
  11. Indeed! It'll be nice if we can save millions for a stronger leg though so I see why there's some intrigue to what played out in the Scottish Hammer's favor. I'm naming my FF Team Drink Beer after this Mother Hocker.
  12. Thanks for the update! Good news for all! We can get the Willies from either guy until they get consistent enough at catching the ball for game reps.
  13. Well said! It was totally inexcusable to make their franchise QB investment w/ a genius football IQ into a crash-test-dummy. The last time I saw protection that bad was from the 65-70 year old Security Guards trying to protect Sadam Hussein from American Troops. 1 year Indy drafted the 160 lb Phillip Dorsett (slot receiver at best) in round 1 instead of someone that could improve the pass pro.
  14. I'm surprised our opponents didn't have "Here Comes Santa Claus" playing over the loud speakers when our Offense took the field. That said, I do remember hearing some of the music from the movie "Jaws" one of the countless times the offense looked as helpless as that kid on the little yellow raft. Adding insult to injury, a lot of our hand selected offensive linemen couldn't count to 2. So by all means, let's try a long count on the first play of the game so we can be looking at 1st and 15 as soon as possible. Unfortunately, that was the better alternative to deferring when we won the coin toss and being down 7-0 just a couple minutes later. It's refreshing to have a FO that gives our coaching staff legitimate attack pieces to play gridiron chess with. I never thought I'd type anything like this but the ONLY people mentioning SB expectations are some media sources that aren't quite up on our offensive line. I think our Oline will gel and Baker will help that as he did last year when many expected disaster up front in life after Joe Thomas. It's just a question of how soon and how prepared we are for injury. On paper, we're much improved at the skill positions that put points on the scoreboard as well as pressure on QBs to justify a lot pre-season optimism with our fan base. In Dutch's Predictions thread last year, I predicted 8-8 (and we went 7-8-1) while the Browns were 1-1-1 in OT games (missing anything from extra points to multiple kicks). That was the only thing I got somewhat right aside from my screen name.
  15. Great post. I posted the exact same thing about Fells. Despite his age, he has very little football wear and tear on his body. He is a very reliable blocker, which REALLY helped out both of our OTs last year. I wasn't a huge Ratley fan either. Then again, I'm not there to see what he does in practice. The reason you haven't heard much about him throughout Training Camp is because he was injured up until the last week (after impressive showings at the mini's). If I'm not mistaking here, Colquitt was one of the highest paid Punters in the league so it wasn't going to be a gotta have trade for anyone. Not for nothing, Dorsey seems like he loves to trade so I'm guessing he at least tried to do so with Colquitt. Someone will probably land him; but the supply and demand might mean a big pay cut. This cut actually makes our cap healthier while we upgraded the position.
  16. I see why they call him Courage.
  17. I didn't either. That's why I'm stranded in Corporate America feeling like I'm in an extended lost episode of Gilligan's Island.
  18. I can hardly wait to say that TD was made in Taywan.
  19. 😄 God bless ya! We got A&M beating out Ohio State for that last WR spot. Just when it couldn't get any more interesting, Mr Me-Aggie is here to remind us College Station still has a 12th Man with a GPS designed by the same people that set up Gipper's text message. Stay tuned?
  20. Gips, the key word in that post is "yet". Not worth arguing about. You might be right about Dorsey's loyalty to draft picks; but Dorsey also brings in the guys he has to cut as well. Meaning? He's gonna get credit either way for what we put on the field. For example, The Scottish Hammer. Dorsey just cut a veteran punter he paid a rat load of cake to. That may not have been a draft pick but the Scottish Hammer was undrafted. Somebody is going to get a lot of credit for FINDING a guy that not only does his job well but he also tackles people extremely well.
  21. Some good points. This time last year, we didn't have Robinson starting at LT yet and we just started playing Harrison there (who doesn't have an NFL job today). I remember bringing up I didn't like us losing TE Fells in the off season for Demetrius Harris and I still don't. I don't care what PFF says - Fells is a more complete TE. I bring up Fells because if one of our OTs needed help with a matchup - he sure helped to conceal the issue. I've heard Fells had a great camp in Carolina and I'm not surprised. Meanwhile more people are worrying about LT Greg Robinson today than they did the entire time he started for us last year. Another thing that helped Robinson and our entire line was Baker's quick processing-rapid release. Some worry losing PFF's top rated Guard Kevin Zeitler impacts the entire line in terms of being about to run it up inside or pass pro. That said, I attended our game vrs Tampa last year when we had 3rd and goal at the Tampa 1 yard line. We ran behind Zeitler 2 consecutive plays and turned the ball over on downs with no points to show for the journey in a game that went into OT. I do take stock in preseason because you get to see who can win the 1 on 1 matchups on the line of scrimmage and who cannot. You can see who can make open field tackles and who cannot. Who can get open and who can't. Who can make extra points and who can't.Who can make FGs and who can't. What guy in a positional battle helps us most on STs. I think we're looking at all this. At least I hope we are.
  22. Preseason can be a lot of chemistry chaos especially in terms of a passing game without OBJ, Landry, Callaway and Njoku in terms of the overthrowing the less experienced/talented guys just hoping to make the roster. Like they say during these games that don't count - the biggest thing you root for is no injuries and hope some guys showcase what they're capable of during the exhibition. I would have liked to see more from the offensive line in the running game; especially considering Tampa's front 7 was missing starters like 2018 1st rd pick DT Vita Vea, DE JPP (who may be back around the time Hunt returns to us), and LB Lavonte David. That said, it looked like the game plan was more focused to feature the pass while the 3rd and longs promoted it even further. I kind of felt bad for Jaelen Strong after hearing he's had such a great camp while his night didn't really reflect it. He was often pretty well covered and overthrown. That said, in practice OBJ and Landry are drawing the #1 and #2 Corners while I'm guessing Strong was getting the good camp reviews against #3 caliber Corners. It'll be interesting to see who stays and who sprays at the WR position at final cuts. Defensively - zero complaints about our front 7 and it's depth. BTW, that's what Joe Schobert looks like playing with 2 healthy hamstrings behind a REAL defensive front. Frequently on time and in position to defend the pass and run. Any complaints. He's only 26 so let's hold off on racing him out of town before we have to. If I had to bring up 1 concern it's our Strong Safety position. Murray (#22) didn't impress me considering the heat we got on Tampa passers. He was often late and completely whiffed on a tackle at the line of scrimmage. He was also the guy that got toasted over the top in our 1st preseason game and flagged for pass interference penalty. Let's hope I'm wrong or others found enough to be encouraged about. Morgan Burnett also looks like he's lost a step or 2 at this point. The good news is our secondary will have a lot of talent at Corner and the other Safety position as well as the heat we should be able to put on passers to ease the challenge at Strong Safety some. We shall see...
  23. Clevs, I think they're gonna feel like run cross country when we factor in how long their offense will keep them on the field.
  24. In fact, when Belichick actually had a team like you speak of here in 91 - he went 6-10. He didn't get us to a winning record and the playoffs until his 4th year here. It doesn't matter how good he is at gridiron chess - he didn't beat people when he could only attack them exclusively with pawns...
  25. Exactly! The FO there almost deserves this for the number of years they refused to protect the guy upfront. That all took a cumulative toll on his body. And you know what? He never complained about it or lost composure in the pocket or while eluding pressure on the improvise out of the pocket. In fact, sometimes you could hear him on audio/video telling someone that just clobbered him "GREAT HIT." As much as we're Cleveland Browns fans, a lot of us are fans of the game that really appreciate a guy like this. JJ Watt had a very respectful and understanding perspective on it today on ESPN when they aired comments from players and coaches around the league. And then they showed fans in the crowd as he walked off the field the last time PROUD to show him they're taking off their #12 jersey in disgust. Not for nothing, but social media really sucks sometimes especially when they leak something like this when he had a presser planned for a more appropriate time to air it.
