RoyceRolls Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 Well Mary Kay canot never reports anything that isn't 100% accurate so it looks like we will have Gordon down the stretch.
Flyin J Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 Theyre just reporting what the Browns said they think he gets. I still think its thrown out and he gets 2-4 for the dui.
letsgojackets Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 I hope it's Mary being Mary and we have nothing to worry about.
darubes Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 If its from Mary Kay it will be anything but 8 games. If I had to bet I would put the over/under at 4-.
Mr. Make-Believe Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 At this point, I'd be really disappointed if the NFL decided that he should sit for 8 games. The way I see it, the only way they can go is 2 games. NFL is taking an absolute BEATING in the media about this issue. They need it to go away and a lengthy suspension for (BARELY) pot will just bring it back to the forefront. Can't give him nothing. Can't give him more than Rice. Give him the same amount, the rhetoric isn't nearly as strong.
cuwoohio Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 The problem is, the NFL doesn't care if they take a beating in the media. It will all be forgotten once the season starts.
miktoxic Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 wait until they announce the irsay punishment. if gordon is gone for 8 games because of that test (weed) and irsay gets less with possession of coke and a suitcase of money (drug deal or money laundering) and ray rice only got 2 games for knocking out his ho, shit will go up like a bouncing betty. let's see what happens to aldon smith friday because he has some serious charges against him.
miktoxic Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 The problem is, the NFL doesn't care if they take a beating in the media. It will all be forgotten once the season starts. not really. i think you'll see womens groups doing some type of on camera protests. wearing pink shirts with some anti-NFL saying on them. i'll guarantee it. don't fuck with a pissed off lady. you should know that by now.
MLD Woody Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 Yeah... All those animal rights groups really made a dent... I'm sure the women's rights groups will do the same...
DieHardBrownsFan Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 wait until they announce the irsay punishment. if gordon is gone for 8 games because of that test (weed) and irsay gets less with possession of coke and a suitcase of money (drug deal or money laundering) and ray rice only got 2 games for knocking out his ho, shit will go up like a bouncing betty. let's see what happens to aldon smith friday because he has some serious charges against him. That was just his weekend party suitcase.
The Gipper Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 Yeah... All those animal rights groups really made a dent... I'm sure the women's rights groups will do the same... And they are still called The Redskins. (in fact, didn't Dan Snyder just come out with some propaganda about that yesterday?)
Tour2ma Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 Eight? If I'm Gordon, then I sue... And they are still called The Redskins. (in fact, didn't Dan Snyder just come out with some propaganda about that yesterday?) That was fucking embarrassing...
slowburn Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 Theyre just reporting what the Browns said they think he gets. I still think its thrown out and he gets 2-4 for the dui. tell me if i'm wrong but the league can't address the alleged ovi until he is proven guilty in a carolina court? if that's the case then the quick solution is to delay the case until season end the fuckin drama is wearing me out
cambridgeho Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 The pos test is what the suspension will be about. The dui will be a seperate case, and he was .09, .01 over the limit, and when he did it again at the police station it was even lower.
miktoxic Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 Yeah... All those animal rights groups really made a dent... I'm sure the women's rights groups will do the same... and you're a asshole if you don't think that follows vick to the end of his days...little boy. btw WOODY, when's the last time dog fighting made the headline news? hmm? when's the last time a NFL player has been associated with dog fighting? there's your big fucking dent.
Tour2ma Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 tell me if i'm wrong but the league can't address the alleged ovi until he is proven guilty in a carolina court? What Roger is saying is that when there is: - a pattern of behavior, e.g., Blackmon, he does not wait for the court decision. - not a pattern of behavior, e.g., Irsay, Rice, he waits. That's his story... and he's sticking with it. So the question is, does he consider - weed, weed, cough syrup, 2nd hand weed, speeding (not my weed) DUI - a pattern???

The smart thing for Goodell to do IMHO would be to just drop the iffy drug charge (which could be challenged in court)- and suspend Gordon for two games under the personal conduct policy- which can't be.
tml1138 Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 8 games?! I'm thinking 2-4, and really should be no more than 2.

Since this isn't a court of law, but an administrative penalty governed by contract with the players union, do they have to follow the law of a state to give an admin punishment? I wouldn't think so.

I wouldn't think so. I suspect not, because then you'd have different rules for different players in the league (ie, all the smokey joe's would go to Denver)
Flyin J Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 The precedent has already been set that NFL teams are employers of the players who are employees. Employers must follow state employment guidelines.
DieHardBrownsFan Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 The precedent has already been set that NFL teams are employers of the players who are employees. Employers must follow state employment guidelines. That would seem unfair to a player who played in a state with liberal laws, vs one with strict laws.
gftChris Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 That would seem unfair to a player who played in a state with liberal laws, vs one with strict laws. My point exactly. Also, I'm not sure if the state/federal thing applies here to league rules, where a positive drug test is grounds for suspension - I'm not sure if there's such a stipulation in state law?
Thaak Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 Since this isn't a court of law, but an administrative penalty governed by contract with the players union, do they have to follow the law of a state to give an admin punishment? I wouldn't think so. That was the entire crux of the Star Caps litigation with the one Saint and the 2 Vikings. They were in court for 2 seasons before things were resolved. It all hinged on Minnesota state law in regards to how drug tests are administered. The players essentially won that lawsuit.

Can that happen in Josh's case?
Harry Buffalo Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 Theyre just reporting what the Browns said they think he gets. I still think its thrown out and he gets 2-4 for the dui. But players don't recieve suspensions for first offense DUI's. That why I am thinking one of two things happen. They follow the letter of their rules and he is out for a season and then gets loses some game checks when he comes back, or they interpret it as they would under how the drug policy is going to look after HGH takes affect and he won't miss any games for the "failed" drug test, but will be suspended 1-2 games for his DUI as a first time offender.
