It's "highly likely" that the narrative he uses to sell himself and how he was on the bathroom floor for 3 hours reading proverbs - is false. You can't get scholarships to west point. West point is free to attend. You can get offered a spot at west point. He got neither and didn't pursue admission to west point, but it was a pretty big embellishment in his book. --- Why lie when you're already an accomplished neurosurgeon?
