I wear it on my hip.

You may very well be the fantasy "good guy with a gun" in that scenario --- but please ask yourself this : Do you really, truly trust police to accurately determine that you are NOT one of if not the bad guy? Their rule is: Nobody standing is armed, and do whatever it takes to make that happen.. not "the only standing are the good guys".  Tactics are no longer to wait for SWAT, they now go towards and start clearing.

And when you say yes.. in at least one case, 2 young guys who actually served avoided going towards the active shooter event [I believe this was the Umpqua Community College in Oregon] because they didn't want to get mis-identified and they knew police were no closer than them..

Fun fact: Remove insurance companies and you change nothing except put insurance companies out of a job and increase the ability of providers to upgrade systems & fill vacancies.  Capitation means that no matter the length of stay, the payout is split between insurance and hospital.

[Hint: Due to EMTALA, hospitals are already providing the service and billing Medicare..]

Sadly, the removal of state mental health was bipartisan.. however the contract covering the expenses of the yo-yoing of homeless to subacute MH [drunk tank and even the acutely psychotic who belong in a higher level but none is available] is.... darn near if not more than the cost for running an asylum.  It's just now a less publicized source of bezzle!

well, concealed carry is an excellent thing. But in a crowd, not that many people get training to know how to act in a crowd. In a steak house, some nut comes in and starts shooting for the hell of it...I would draw and hopefully shoot him before any patron has to die. But in a crowd bigger crowd with police actively engaged?  I'm behind cover, and would only shoot if I had NO CHOICE, and as long as I had a clear shot with no innocents being in the way. With police there, that is a serious different deal. I've talked with my ccw instructor about some of these things - he started teaching advanced classes, which I haven't taken yet.

In a crowded movie theater? big trouble, serious complications. scatter movement, ricochet dangers, probably? low light scenario...   ccw isn't much of an option. Two years ago, in Missouri, we were traveling cross country from Texas, and I actually called the movie theater, explaining that we were traveling, and wanted to see the movie about the Rocky Mountain railroad, and I didn't want to leave my ccw in the hotel room or car... etc. She said my Ohio ccw was absolutely accepted, and was fine in the movie theater as long as it is concealed. But If something were to happen...I can't imagine having a clear shot unless the terrorist shooter was too close.

We are far, far removed from the baby face nelson gangster/organized crime days. but there are still mentally deranged people who come out of the woodwork. and as in Australia, you can take all the guns from the people, but bad guys will still get guns, and knives, etc, and still murder, rape and pillage.

Sadly, as most every time?... it was a gun free zone in Las Vegas. You have to wonder if terrorists will hijack a plane again..

huge sporting event... ccw won't help anything anyways. The world is getting to be a more dangerous place all the time, I think...with large crowds at sporting events being the norm.

I think I'd rather go camping.....

The security at Wembley stadium last week for the Ravens Jaguars game was most I’ve seen over here at a sporting event

Can't say I wasn't wondering a little...

With the recent attack on concert goers in Las Vegas last night.

  1. How safe do you feel attending an NFL or other U.S. major sporting event?
  2. What changes in security measures do you foresee at future events?

I've never felt apprehensive about a sporting event or concert or other large gathering where I knew there would be "security". But as I said above it was crossing my mind during the London trip's formative stages. Now I'm good.

Movie theaters? Different story... after the second theater shooting I have to admit to being a little concerned. After the third in three years a little more. That said I go "to the movies" so seldom anyway, it's a non-factor.

Whatever security they would have had in the Las Vegas concert it would not have stopped the Las Vegas murderer/shooter who was perched in a hotel room and not actually at the event. I don't know how they stop something like that?

You roll in, bag and all, thru a metal detector. Set it off and step to the side.

Only thing I can think of, is that if you kill 58 people, we take 58 of your family members off the face of the earth. An eye for an eye. Sucks, but maybe that is why some animals eat their young.

If that is the case, then you should stop thinking...

I won't make this political, but maybe we should move it there.... don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

New Security Measures Announced for Gateway Plaza During Tribe Playoff Games

The Indians will introduce new, extra security measures for the playoffs staring with game one of the ALDS on Thursday. Though the announcement comes in the wake of the Las Vegas mass shooting, the safety plans, which focus on the area between the stadium and arena, have been in the works for weeks. An FYI for anyone heading down for the game: Fans will have to pass through one of four security checkpoints to enter the plaza. Enforcement will begin three hours before first pitch.

sure enough sucks losing him so I wonder who the next two will be ?

Don't ask.

Tom Petty sang to us.  He sang to the regular guy.  I wrote up Runnin Down A Dream today.  I'm gonna bring it to band rehearsal tomorrow night.  (we already do American Girl, You Don't Know How It Feels - though I changed a few words to make it grandchildren friendly, and Mary Jane's Last Dance - I try to rock out a lead in that one)

My wife knows a young woman who was at the concert in Vegas with her mother. She said she was not at the concert at the time of the gun firing but in her hotel room and  a hotel worker came to their door and made them leave when the firing started. She said they didn't know where to go and just started running with the mob outside and said they scaled a wall to try to get away from the gunfire. Not sure the reasoning behind the hotel doing this. Seems like staying and sheltering in place would have been the route to go.

We need to give people a living wage for an honest days work.

We also need to help one another.

We need peace. We need to love and respect each other. We need "The Almighty God" to come back into America's life.

We need to respect each other and make sure that the right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is never in danger of being stolen away.

We need to make sure the mentally unstable don't have enough weaponry to arm a platoon. By all accounts, Until this guy started firing, no one had a clue.

I'm starting to think Satanic possession is a reality.

I'm wondering about drugs. haven't heard anything.

Nah Cal- this isn't about drugs. Certainly not in the planing stages at least. This was cold-blooded killing- thought out well in advance by a guy with above average intelligence- who wanted to take as many people out as possible. I'm going to amass a few thousand rounds of ammo, Get myself kits to convert AR-15s to full auto, have a Sheet ton of 100 round clips (looked it up) to minimize reloading, and reserve a room overlooking the concert site.

Sure, you can hallucinate on meth or LSD- but not for the length of time it would take to plan this. He had it all planned out. If he were drugged out- he would never have gotten that arsenal up to his room. Speed might help you slap another clip on your gun, but......

technically, it isn't full auto, even though it emulates the automatic weapon because of the high firing rate.

However, a 30 round clip would go off in less than three seconds. He also had explosives in his room, those are

also illegal/highly restricted.

Murderers will murder. with an airplane, drone, bomb, arson, poison gas, etc etc etc. But you are surely correct about your drugs point.
