they had a clip of our gm on espn the other day....what's his name....berry.....it appears he is not happy at all with mayfield.....it looks to me that ol baker is going to have to have a hell of a second half of the season to be the qb of this team....first of all anyone playing dallas should get a boost....that 50 yd td run yodell had where he started about 15 yds behind the los...it that was the steelers d, he would have got his fucking head ripped off....so don't look at dallas as a confidence booster...jeeez...the bottom line is ,,,the yodell baker state farm mayfield projiect was a bust....

    Berry praised Baker.

From the sounds of it, you’re just a sh$t fan who doesn’t support players who have contributed to wins.

Idk why I’m responding to such a post

I'm not sure OBJ has "boosted Baker's development." I feel Baker was pressured into finding OBJ on a lot of plays where OBJ was not the open WR. To me, that would hinder BM's development. But when the bossman spent all that $ and draft capitol on a player, he is not going to be pleased when that player doesn't work out. So, I am pretty sure there were meetings where Mr. Jimmy told Freddie and Stef (separately, obviously) - in no uncertain terms - "Get the ball to OBJ." But, it just wasn't meant to be.

I think it’s clear that Baker was thinking too much with OBJ on the field. So yea, it appeared as if OBJ hindered his development. I just don’t think it has some negative impact on Baker’s future. It’s a good thing that he got to play with high level receivers early in his career.

His sources tell him OBJ and Baker just don't dovetail, and it's not a knock on either of them, but they just haven't made a good combination. Baker has been pressured to make OBJ workout and feels forced into it, which is why the offense doesn't flow as well as it should.

I get what common sense says especially since Baker broke the Browns record after OBJ went out. Let’s not forget that OBJ played a huge role in beating Dallas and IND.

I do feel as if Baker was too inexperienced to receive such a polarizing weapon. However, I also think that having OBJ has boosted Mayfield’s development.

  4. We couldn’t catch a break today. Dumb face masks. Jumping offsides. Dropping interceptions. Dropping a key 3rd down while down 7. Hitting the RB when the ball is floating in the air to be intercepted..the list goes on.

I think the cold weather is messing with the team especially since we are missing Chubb. He elevates this team so much. It will be nice to get him back.

I like the WR group a lot more than the TEs but time will tell. Hopefully more 3 WR sets until we get Chubb and Hooper back. Bryant looks like a good blocker and receiver, bad ball security on the fumble.
edit: can't forget the Ward strip on Carr and 0 defenders reacting to the ball.

Guys, if you need another jolt of happiness, watch this video. At the end keep your eyes on Joel Bitonio. He waits for the replay and after its confirmed he literally PRANCES off the field while high-stepping. Lol!

I like this view because it shows how well DPJ uses his frame. He used the slightest push off as #23 Phillips was turning for the ball. Excellent timing and placement from Baker and great body control from Peoples-Jones.

Perhaps, but name all the QBs who became good after regressing his 2nd and 3rd year compared to their rookie year. Jim Plunket, maybe? It's a short list. We all made excuses for 2019. But he just hasn't got any better even with a real coach instead of Freddie Ass Clown and an improved OL and TE.

Baker's first half of stellar play vs Indy should say something about his growth. His second half cool down was where he(and Coach) need to do a better job of sustaining drives.

Also, I get that it's Hue, but he has a point....

For me it has zero to do with the last game... It's the culmination and lack of progression in every one of his games that has me worried.

I openly admit that I wasn't a fan of the pick and that more than likely skews my vision, but he just hasn't passed the eye test for me yet - no matter how hard I squint.

I was surprised with Baker at #1 overall. I get it now. It takes the type of player that Baker is to be the QB of this franchise. It's only year 3. Growth is not always linear.

    Definitely a fair criticism.

His lack of improvement in his 3rd year is also fair..... and alarming as hell.

I'd wait until the year is actually over before making such a judgement.

This was a bad game for Baker. You know who else had a bad game this week? Aaron Rodgers... It happens.

Sure he could... how many time have we seen TB12 stink it up only to rip his OL and/or skill payers a new one on the sideline.

Not my intended point... which was that Baker was that guy two years ago.

When you have a poor play like that it’s kinda pointless trying to yell at others to do better. IMO. OBJ didn’t do anything wrong and had some type of say in how the offense was performing

Was good to see OBJ do that...

Problem was did you see Baker? He walked up late as if to see what was going on... stayed on the perimeter even leaning to look around other players.

It should should have been him leading this pep session... and two years ago it would have been. We know this because it was him...

Baker threw the costly pick 6 that burned us. He couldn’t say anything.
OBJ was also the proper read on that play.

Not just now, Pitt is better everyday and twice on Sundays.

This was supposed to be a test for both teams. I don't care if Chubb and Teller were out. Ain't no way this should have been a blowout. I'm disgusted.

I’m not saying it wasn’t a bad game. I think even the coach deserves some blame. Both our starting safeties were out as well and Sendejo looks bad at times. Redwine is not that good.
Cleveland was more banged up. Even Baker was playing with a plate. He should’ve got pulled earlier IMO but that would’ve sent the wrong image. And it was Pittsburgh, a place where the Browns do not win.
Smith looks like a solid LB. It will be nice to get the safeties back we should consider trading or signing another one.

OK, so,  it seems a fair amount of effort has gone into this....so I ask the question that I previously had an entire thread on:   What went wrong?  Injuries, OK.  Inexperience?  Or are the guys we got just not good enough?

It's an offensive year. No crowd noise. Our defense is getting turnovers which is better than forcing 3 and outs. I think the LBs will get better as the season progresses.

OK, so,  you can't fix everything in one year.   But I will give it to Berry that he made some attempts at helping/fixing the defensive back 7.   Drafted Delpit and Phillips. Injury to Delpit unfortunate. Picked up Goodson.

Still, I thought/think there were some moves that could have been made for a veteran LB that have been left on the table.

Malcolm Smith won a SB with Seattle. He was the MVP. It was the 43-8 rout.
