I saw a couple stories about how longtime Buffalo Bills season ticket holders have seen their prices skyrocket with the new stadium coming...

Not only that, they scrapped a "seniority" method on first dibs. They give the season ticket holders who have the pricier seats preference. People who have had season tickets in Buffalo since the 60s are understandably upset.

I'm having trouble understanding the problem with "Citizens United" Supreme Court ruling.

    https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/citizens-united-explained

    "

    What was Citizens United about?

A conservative nonprofit group called Citizens United challenged campaign finance rules after the FEC stopped it from promoting and airing a film criticizing presidential candidate Hillary Clinton too close to the presidential primaries."

    *****************************

So, THAT part of it - is excellent. They had no right to tell Citizens United that they were not allowed to do a video on higgardly clinton for whatever reason they had. "too close to the election" ???? baloney.

However, Bob, the unlimited expenditures by the wealthy funding the giant PACs and Super PACS - that is very bad. The basis seems to be a "First Amendment" issue - but giving the rich (either side) unlimited control - compared to the common folks - broaching "election interference" maybe. That part of it needs to go. The first and primary reason - needs to stay.

    ****************************

"That’s because leading up to Citizens United, transparency in U.S. elections had started to erode, thanks to a disclosure loophole opened by the Supreme Court’s 2007 ruling in FEC v. Wisconsin Right to Life, along with inaction by the IRS and controversial rulemaking by the FEC."

    ***************************

SO, before the half? wrong decision of Citizens United, transparency was already eroding. Again, the FEC sued "Wisonsin Right to Life over poltiically targeted "rule making" by the FEC.

So, it isn't valid to blame republicans for "Citzens United" and "Wisconsin Right to Life" - you should blame the corrupt dems/deep state actors for screwing with those groups, forcing the courts to get involved to stop the unfair political targeting.

Again - the decision to open unlimited spending to PACS and Super Pacs - was an asinine result? that I don't get why they would have gone there.

If the corrupt FEC hadn't tried to provide cover for higgardly, it would never have gone to court.

Good stuff Cal, but yeah, why did the ruling go that far? It's seriously altered campaign donations and created even more bipartisan Congressional behavior- the reps, whether D or R are now cow-towing to the donors and not the people. The Koch Bros. pushed hard for this (the right wing equivalent of Soros).

I'm wondering if any politician is going to go out on a limb and basically cut their own throat to change this. Let's face it, this dark money is how people like AOC, McConnell, etc. get to be multi-millionaires on a $150K salary.

Round up all the demonrats and ship them off to Canada and I'll bet the Reps could solve all our woes.

A hypothetical....if you had the choice of only one partytaking on the responsibility of putting this country back on the right track, with no interference, which party do you feel be better suited..., the Reps or the Demons?

That should really be a no brainer.

It should be a no brainier, but it isn't.

Yes, the Dems have truly shifted far from the center. They've lost me on many issues. Their nominee (Biden) shouldn't be the nominee.

I simply cannot trust the Rs. Senate Bill 5 in Ohio. Nationally they held all the cards from 2016-2018 & didn't fix Obamacare.

Republicans lead the charge on the Citizens United Supreme Court decision, a D_I_S_A_S_T_E_R for our country. They need to admit their mistake there and run on campaign reform before I take their party seriously.

If Trump hadn't already served a term as President, yeah I'd consider voting for him.

just as long as he pay's the bill's.

    He will pay half, maybe.

PSLs, will come back. Has anybody heard what's going on in Buffalo? It's almost criminal. ..

    • PSLs up to $20K per seat
    • Seniority on season tickets doesn't matter. The higher priced season ticket holders get first dibs, then trickle down to the cheaper seats. In other words, you could have had season tickets in your family since the 60s, and lose out.

This corporate greed crap is really getting annoying.

  5. Good thread, let's see what I can recall:

    • 1972, Browns vs Steelers. Browns go up 20-3 but the Steelers take the lead late. Cockroft kicks a GW FG in the last seconds, Browns 26-24
    • 1974 Cleveland Crusaders vs Alberta Oilers Jim Wiste scored a hat trick in the 1st period, Crusaders won 11-2
    • 1975 Browns vs Bengals. Browns were 0-9, Cincy 8-1. Browns score 20 straight points in the 4th Q to win 35-23
    • 1979 Cowboys at Browns MNF. Browns came out on fire, scoring 20 points in the 1st 10 minutes and cruise to a 26-7 win (Browns were 4-0 in 1979 then the wheels came off)
    • 1984 Cavs vs Celtics playoff game. The Cavs were lead by World B. Free and the Coliseum was rocking. The Cavs won (lost the series 3-1) but it was a good story, as the Cavs started the season 2-19 but rallied to make the playoffs.
    • 1986 Browns 37 Steelers 31 in OT; contrary to popular belief, yes I was at the 1986 Double OT game vs the NY Jets. It was actually a horrible football game as the Browns were flat as a pancake, but Mark Gastineau bailed the Browns out with a stupid late-hit on Kosar. What a rally at the end to send it to OT
    • 2001 (I think)- the Tribe was down 14-2 in the 7th inning and came back to beat the Seattle Mariners
    • 2018 Browns vs NY Jets. Baker Mayfield breaks the losing streak and the Bud Light fridge got unlocked. First time I saw a home win in 3 seasons (I split seats with my cousin)

Vrabel hired Schwartz as a Senior Defensive Assistant in TN in April 2021 through the 2022 season.  This was only 3 months after Schwartz though he'd step away from football as the DC in Philly (where he won a Super Bowl).  I remembered hearing "Defensive Consultant" at first about his job in TN but that became Senior Defensive Assistant as soon as they hired him.  Long story short, it looks like they have a good history working together.

If the Browns have another successful season with their 2023 Defensive Assistant Coach of the Year - Schwartz could be in ideal position for a Head Coaching job. If we lose him to that, Mike Vrabel is the ideal solution.  He's a great guy to have on board for this Defense.  Our LBs in particular, could benefit from his wealth of knowledge as well as the entire front 7.

It's kind of odd that nobody wanted him as a HC. His teams always were tough at Tenn, until they let their offensive weapons go.

Seems like the trend is to hire young offensive guys now.

    I'm glad he's in CLE.

Bob, I used to get excited to come visit Stan (Atenears) and go watch some training camp sessions with him every year.  They've made that almost impossible today for out of state fans that don't already have season tix.  It used to be easy to just show up and get a good spot to view the practice and/or walk around to one.   That feels like a lifetime ago...

Agree. Its about a 2 mile walk from my house to the facility, but I'm not "pre-registering" for a practice ( in an Allen Iverson voice lol).

I know times change, but I'm struggling with all these rules/regulations.

Go Browns. Win all 8 home games

DTR made progress during the season. He looked like a deer in the headlights in his first start and eventually came back to beat Pittsburgh. I don't think they are going to give up on a guy they drafted so easily, and you don't bring in a Tyler Huntley to be a camp body.

I'm starting to get the vibe that they aren't totally convinced that Watson's shoulder will ever be the same, or maybe he's going to be a fully guaranteed 200 million dollar "oops, I've got a hang nail and I'm going to miss 3 weeks" quarterback and they want to be ahead of the curve.

Agree, I certainly wouldn't give up on him.

...and Watson, I'm sure there's concerns. Maybe rumors of him having more legal issues are gaining steam (hope not).

I still don't know what to make of this signing of Winston. They just brought in Tyler Huntley who was a pro bowler and filled in admirably for Lamar Jackson, and is all but 25 or 26 years old, and I think he is a clear upgrade over Winston.

So if they were going for the "we don't want people chanting for the other guy if Watson starts stinking up the place", I don't see this as a move that prevents that. Plus, don't we still have DTR?

I don't get it either, unless they aren't sold on DTR.

We fans can only speculate. It's obvious that 4 QBs won't be rostered.

That was a rant that seems to have been bottled up for a long time, and this has been how it goes for a long time.  I can still hear my Dad complaining because his season tickets went up to $14 a seat.

I know all about the price of games.  My 2 seats now cost me $4500 a year.

This just goes in to the "it is what it is" category.  The NFL has never been in some magical category.  It has always been about money.  At least since players began to play for money and owners began to sell tickets.

    Yep.

My seats went up $300 ($150 per ticket x2). $2304...of course the $4 is for "processing." I don't know how much longer I'm going to hang onto them. Thing that irritates me is my first invoice, there was no mention of a price hike....then invoice #2 a week or so ago, BAM, we need $300 more. Not cool at all.

Then the NFL took our free NFL games away from us on the NFL app in 2023, that was a bad move. Of course, we could have it for $59.95 yikes, if we are willing to pay.

It is upsetting, but the NFL knows people are going to pay. What a marketing machine the NFL is.

I like the idea, but this front office doesn't seem to like spending much money or draft capital on linebackers, with the exception of JOK in the second round.

Anyone you like at #54, Bob?

I'm all-in on Junior Colson, TCUN.

I haven't been looking as close as that as many on here.

Negative campaigning has always been at the forefront. But this time it may be extra negative.

My choice would have been Haley. I think she would have destroyed Biden. Trump, I don't know, could be a big big mistake

I may have mentioned this before, just something to think about.

Voters have been trained to think Dems or Repubs are the only choice.

So on the verge of WW III, the two "leading" candidates have obviously completed one term. It looks like the next Pres will be an immediate "lame duck," and given the partisan nature of Congress, well very little will change. Prepare for lots of fighting and "nothingness" in 2027, maybe sooner.

    DON'T VOTE FOR THESE CLOWNS.

    Rant over. Good luck USA.

Is it me, or are the Stealers having a better FA than we are? Wilson is a clear upgrade over Pickett, and they signed Patrick Queen for 3yr/41 million. Could we have afforded that?

All 32 teams end up making these types of moves, it depends on what cycle they're in.

Look at the Ratbirds- let Gus Edwards walk, pick up D Henry.

Browns let Walker & Takitaki go. Probably didn't want to.

The business side & salary cap makes these GMs earn their money.

Somehow, I don't see this as being a complete disaster for them. Pittsburgh is never going to be an easy out for us. For a fanbase that is thirsty  for a Super Bowl title like we are, it sure sucks that we are in the toughest division in football.

I feel the exact same way.

I've grown tired of hoping our rivals fail. Let's just beat 'em & get to the top of the AFC.
