Get a bear horn too cal if you're not gonna carry a .44 Mag. A .357 mag could work at very close range if you have Hornady Critical Defense FTX 125 gr which is what I carry in black bear country. Best thing is to make a lot of noise while hiking so they have plenty of warning to get away. Every now and then I just smack my walking stick loudly against trees to help them on their way. Most bears prefer no contact with humans.

EDIT: If cal still has me on ignore someone can just quote me so he can read it. Believe it or not I'd rather he be safe in grizzly country.

I ride my bike daily weather permitting and racquetball 5 days a week. But when I go to Estes Park I spend several days on the lower trails getting used to the higher elevation before I tackle the ones that are longer and go above 11,000 Ft. I now carry a couple of small 5 min. O2 aluminum canisters in my backback just in case. So far I have not had to use them, but at 77 who knows when the first time will be when I regret not packing them. I also carry a .357 mag along just in case 77 looks appealing to mamabear with kids to protect. Haven't had to use that either, but that old Boyscout motto tells me to carry.

I admit I am a cold weather pussy. I keep a blanket on when my wife is around because she sets the temp too low at 73F and the vent blows right on me. And I won't go outside to mow the yard in any temp lower than 75F. I might get frostbite. Give me 90 or above for all outdoor activities. That I got used to in Venezuela year round. He racked up 10.0 sacks and 15.0 tackles for loss as a sophomore last season and packed his bags for Texas A&M this offseason. Sawyer and fellow 2021 five-star JT Tuimoloau are the highest-rated defensive linemen to commit to Ohio State in the modern recruiting era. On offense, Seattle landed undrafted Free Agent WR Doug Baldwin out of Stanford. He was a very productive starter that had an 8 year career inclusive of 2 Pro Bowls for Seattle. They also added Russell Wilson in round 3, which doesn't sound late - but up against the supply and demand it was.  These were the QBs drafted ahead of Wilson:  Andrew Luck, RG3, Ryan Tannehill, Brandon Weeden (round 1) and Brock Osweiler (round 2). Now, these were the QBs drafted after Russell Wilson - Nick Foles and Kirk Cousins.  

I think all those finds by Seattle above (from the scouting dept and FO) led to a very healthy salary and a strong nucleus of players that made life for HC Pete Carroll a lot of fun. That said, drafting like that also required great coaching to develop a lot of those guys on time and ahead of schedule.  It probably wasn't easy; but I'm guessing rising to the challenge made it a lot of fun.  

And dominant 2013 Superbowl Champ DE Michael Bennett was originally a 2009 UDFA for Seattle from Texas A&M. Eventually 3 time Pro Bowler with Seattle.
