  1. I’m optimistic. Baker has been adapting most of his adult life. He really has no choice in the matter, unless he wants to stop playing professional football. I kinda think Baker’s at an impasse. The whole newlywed, insurance commercial, stardom galore wildness and its weights. It’s heavy, and a pretty clear acknowledgement of success for a guy who has a reputation for fueling himself with perceived slights. I think he’ll figure it out.
  2. You get my vote for jivest comment of the day so far. But it’s early and a long day ahead. I mean, are we really talking “Brown Sox scandal” here? You also get my vote for most bizarre hashtag reference l’ve seen in a while. What does that even mean?
  3. I count myself among those that are weary of this shit. I look forward to the evolution of Baker Mayfield and him finding more adult ways to show someone up and inspire himself and his team. The guy could conceivably play into his 30s, and l get the “Baker gotta be Baker” stuff, and even found this sort of thing refreshing for a time. But we all evolve. We have to. What worked a few years ago may not work today, and this kind of thing doesn’t seem to be working now.
  4. Gotta agree here, we got beat by the better team. I don’t know if it was an extra week of rest or if Bosa’s chip on his shoulder also had a jet pack, but their DL was scary good. I saw Bitonio get bowled over on a play. I think the only hope for the rest of the AFC is that their DLinemen get injured or suspended by the time the Superbowl rolls around. They’ll have an extra week of rest then too. And presumably jet packs again. Although an official thread from Nero with asterisks may have helped. Clearly we needed all the good juju we could get...
  5. Welcome to the board Dobie. I sure hope the Browns pull this one out and put a little spring in our collective steps.
  6. Could be right, but there’s yet hope for a guy like Forbes or Teller.
  7. I dunno. There is a distinct lack of asterisks and no mention of the word “official” in the title. I don’t think we can risk messing with good juju.
  8. If Hubbard plays anywhere in the realm of decently, l think he sticks around. Ideally you want to upgrade the oline at a certain pace so the guys can all get a degree of familiarity playing alongside each other. Maybe change one guy a year? Something like that? The Browns are definitely throwing darts at boards to get Olinemen, it’s just a matter of hitting a bullseye or two.
  9. All the punks are doing it these days.
  10. Digging the history lesson. Thanks Nero and Gip.
  11. He was fantastic in Airplane.
  12. That’s pretty cool. Kinda wondering what’s going on in the world of special teams though if a punter who has simply done a solid job gets this award? Have there been any punts or kicks run back for a TD this year? Usually that guy gets that award. Or the FG kicker making a few long ones.
  13. HEY, TERRY: What is the problem with Genard Avery? HEY, BRIAN: I’ve wondered the same thing until this past week. Then I began to figure it out. New defensive coordinator Steve Wilks prefers to play the game with two linebackers and five defensive backs. Joe Schobert is having a Pro Bowl year. Mack Wilson looks like a steal in the fifth round. They are the linebackers. For a while, Avery played there. Avery is probably best at defensive end, but the trade for Olivier Vernon filled the defensive end spot opposite Myles Garrett. But the main issue is only two linebackers. There is depth in case of injury. Lots of fans asked about the second-year player from Memphis. Me: not sure that’s really the case. I just think the coaches like Chad Thomas better right now at DE. Avery has the reputation as a pass rush only kinda guy, and l simply think Wilks likes more multi-dimensional players than one trick ponies. My guess is we’ll continue to see him inactive until he shows improvement in other areas of defending or injuries force Wilks’ hand.
  14. If one guy jumps offsides, that’s not playing together. If they ALL jump offsides, now THAT’S teamwork! How fun would that be? For everyone BUT Tretter to lunge into a run block just for the hell of it? Pick your point in the game. Tight formation, 3 or 4 TEs, and concede 5 yards just to show ‘em you can.
  15. The best burrito l ever had was in the Mission district 20 plus years ago. Damn that was one good burrito...
  16. I think we all appreciate a solid thumping tackle when opportunity arises, but there’s something to be said for using good technique to pry a ball loose instead of sheer force. Joe’s got a forced fumble this year. And with the whole “availability is the best ability” thing l have a hard time faulting a guy for sparing his shoulder for another day if he’s still getting results. I really see that as how the game is going anyway with all the rules protecting players and when and where you can hit them.
  17. I’m happy to see him making a couple mil this year. Not sure what fair market value is these days for a MLB and basically captain of the defense, but “fair” is built into that term and l’d say he’s earned it.
  18. https://www.ohio.com/sports/20190930/joe-schobert-after-career-game-the-vibe-is-really-good I’m of the opinion that Joe Schobert is not just good for this team, but great for this team, and possibly integral to this team. This isn’t based off his performance in any one game, but his body of work so far. I’m impressed with the way he goes about his business and the effectiveness with which he does it. He’s not even talking about his contract year. How admirable is that? He just does his job and does it well. Pay that man.
  19. I really took this as a bit of a throwaway quote. Like one of those things people say where the common response is, “well yeah, duh.” I’m better at sex when l’m naked.
  20. Fourth time’s the charm... https://clutchpoints.com/buccaneers-news-ndamukong-suh-fined-21056-for-roughing-browns-quarterback-baker-mayfield/
  21. I actually think it may be a decent game. 2 teams trying to find their way in significantly new situations. One of them is bound to see the light right? Or maybe some light? I dunno
  22. I’m pretty sure by the time we were into the 3rd quarter the Ravens defensive backfield was thoroughly done dealing with our pulling and shooting Olinemen cracking through to block them.
  23. It’s hard to take anything away from the Browns this game. They played 4 quarters of inspired ball with some gritty individual performances on both sides of the ball and a coaching plan that simply worked.
