  1. Oddly enough good ol’ Maserati driving former OL coach with his Powerpoint of Rhinos somehow resonates with me. Who knew that Animal Planet could translate to football? My recollection is what it is, skewed at best, but something about undersized blitzers gets me re: Robinson. Like he’s tentative or something. Like it’s the blitzing safety that he’s not comfortable with leveling instead of the DE, a guy more his size.
  2. If only Winslow Jr were still on the team...
  3. I’m noticing Kitchens cooks up some interesting analogies. Here’s one l read in an article yesterday in response to a question about how the team needs to handle it when the going gets tough. “What are you gonna do at that moment. Are you gonna splinter? Are you gonna be like five fingers? Or are you gonna be like a fist?” Kitchens said, spreading his five fingers out first, then balling them together. “And that’s what we’re trying to figure out. Teams fall apart because they splinter. They go their different ways. And everybody’s looking for how it’s going to affect me, and not how it’s going to affect we.” It’s kinda fun when you’re your first reaction is “huh?” but then you realize it makes sense.
  4. Did Corbett at least show any improvement in his facial hair game? I saw Baker nuanced his with a porn ‘stache.
  5. I feel like l watched both clips multiple times trying to see what you see, but not sure l do. I saw more of a gallop with his feet. Right left, right left, etc. In the first clip maybe l saw a point where both feet were in the air at the same time when Myles was pulling off spin move number two. In clip 2 l saw him lose his base when his right foot went down near his left foot, but he regained it with a push off with the right hand to Myles’ gut and got his right foot back in place. I’m not sure any of this equates to “better technique”, but l’ve always felt Robinson’s main bugaboo was a lack of tenacity.
  6. He was never a block eater kind of DT. More of a shoot the gap guy, getting into the backfield to disrupt the play kinda guy. Besides, not sure you can tell much about his weight with a 5 second interview snippet from his shoulders up.
  7. I really believe Kitchens is the kind of coach who will throw no one under the bus. Won’t even admit if he has talked to a player about something, and if he did it will stay between them. Builds trust, and that’s important. Probably one of the most damning things Hue ever did is the blame game.
  8. https://www.dawgsbynature.com/2019/7/26/8932201/cleveland-browns-training-camp-recap-day-2-greedy-for-picks Found the mention about Chris Smith in that article. Apparently Avery and Zettel have been the number 2 team as of this writing. I dunno. Every year it seems some guys come outta nowhere and increase their level of play. Some guys regress too, but it seems there are enough of these bottom of the roster guys who have been with the club since last year and see the chance to be a part of something great, so l’m hopeful a few step up and pan out.
  9. https://www.brownszone.com/2019/07/27/freddie-kitchens-is-driving-the-bus-now-so-healthy-players-wear-full-uniforms-and-spend-practice-with-teammates/ A bit of a write up on Kitchen’s twist on the “pitch count” for vet players. He apparently likes his healthy players in uniforms and being involved with their teammates throughout all sessions whether they participate in certain drills or not. He’s not a fan of the stationary bike. Not a bad idea methinks. Keeps everyone involved and gives the vets a chance to offer insight to the younger dudes instead of pedaling away in the distance.
  10. Good to hear about Forbes. Would like to see him get a fair shake at Tackle. I think he has the quick feet for it.
  11. I am a fan of the good hair guys. If we could convince him to grow a Rollie Fingers-eaque mustache he would look like a Musketeer. Who doesn’t want a Musketeer as a punter? All for one!
  12. A good number of those backup guys have been with the team about a year now, and were Dorsey pick ups. We traded a 7th for Devaroe Lawrence. We axed Austin Reiter and Carl Nassib to make room for a couple of them, both guys who found some success elsewhere. Presumably Dorsey saw something in these guys so he went out of his way to gets them. Let’s see what they can do. Also, read today that Smith is practicing with the 3rd team DL most recently. He’s a guy l think we both liked last year, but getting a subtle message to not rest on his laurels. We got good pace setters for competition and betterment as a whole is bound to happen.
  13. As odd as it sounds l’m ok with not getting a guy like Daniels. The table is set for some fierce competition amongst the DL, and l kind of look forward to seeing who among the Zettels and Ekaules step up their game and push for playing time.
  14. I like the pitch count idea too. That was a talking point last year with the Hard Knocks tiff between Hue and Haley, and a rare moment l thought Hue was doing the right thing. Especially with the vet guys who have been there and done that, let them ease into the grind at an ideal pace. The Tretters and Richardsons on the team, they pretty much know what they need to do and how to get there.
  15. That’s a lotta money for a rotational DT. 7.8 mil guaranteed. Makes sense he chased the money and makes sense we weren’t the ones to pay it.
  16. You must fart a lot. And what about the poor poor baby goat for which that milk was intended? Sadly bleating in the corner. Breaks my heart.
  17. https://www.dawgsbynature.com/2019/7/25/8930584/cleveland-browns-training-camp-recap-day-1-odell-beckham-jr-is-here Good little write up on the first day of camp.
  18. I’ll go with agree. Sort of puts the onus on the coaching staff to best utilize these guys to make it happen though. I think in an ideal situation, Calloway will progress to the point of being an ideal number 2 guy, which means you can use Landry as the super wild card wherever, inside, outside and in between. Basically make him the mismatch nightmare and feed him the ball.
  19. Not sure l caught the segment you mentioned but l listen to my fair share of WLW to and from work (their traffic reports have saved me from being late a few times) and they interview Lapham frequently during the season. Last year was the downest l think l’ve ever heard him when talking about the Bengals, especially towards the end of the season. The pauses he would take before answering a question, the occasional sigh. You could hear his disappointment through the radio. And Bengals fans really are the worst. I have many in friends and family. They’re the most uppity and annoying bunch when they are going good, and then yeah, disappear into a hole when they start going bad. It’s not even fun to razz them when they’re sucking. It feels like kicking a cripple.
  20. While scoping the linebackers l’m curious where Ray Ray Armstrong fits in. He rated well in the last game last year and we resigned him for 2.25 mil, but l’m not seeing much love for Ray squared in mock final 53s and general chatter about the LB group heading into camp. I’m always curious to read about the udfa guy who comes outta nowhere too. Also curious to read about how Forbes progresses and looking forward to seeing some film against better competition. The early chatter on him was maybe tackle or maybe guard, but lately seems to be that it’s going to be guard, which is a curious call so early in the game because the Browns really could use to develop a solid tackle of the future since their depth seems thin and the starters seem to be considered average.
  21. I think you’re on to something. It seemed like TEs and RBs catching passes down the middle killed us last year. Not sure if it was scheme or LB play or what, but it felt like too many drives were kept alive against us with plays like that.
  22. He was the LT for the first half of the year. Robinson replaced him. I think it was Robinson who tussled with Garrett.
  23. That’s the proposal l heard too. Not a fan, for some of the reasons you mentioned. Also, it would create a change in strategizing. Teams would have to make wierd decisions like starting your B Oline against a team with a perceived weak pass rush earlier in the year, or “hope” your starting Oline gets banged up enough throughout the season that it works itself out. And for the poor team that busted their tail to get into the playoffs all year, but then are forced to start their backup QB the last 2 games, which isn’t fair to the rest of the team. I’m quite content with a 16 game schedule. If the NFL is hellbent on making more money, start a minor league and play games on Wednesdays or something.
  24. I suppose l’m just spitballing here, but with the agent change Duke really has an opportunity to change the narrative a bit. Sure, he likely still wants out, but he can take a different angle here. I’m sure Rosenhaus thinks he knows how to help players get what they want, and it’s reasonable to think the approach Duke was taking with his former agent wasn’t working, so safe bet that a different strategy is forthcoming. Instead of standing there talking about “trade me because l don’t feel wanted”, it could be more along the lines of “looking forward to the opportunity to show the NFL what l can do”, which imo is a more win-win approach.
  25. I guess it begs the question, what was the worst coaching he ever did?
