I don't think anyone wants to say this because he is easily the best coach we've had in decades, but Stefanski deserves some heat for this game too. I thought he made some good calls throughout the game, but the overall gameplan was terrible. You need to keep their offense off the field as much as possible, throwing early into their good secondary plays right into their hands. We don't really have a playmaker at WR other than Landry, so I guess now you see the value of Beckham. Baker is not a quarterback that is going to carve up a defense. He has made some strides but he is still not there yet. That near pick 6 was atrocious.

we cannot stop superman.....end of story....i agree, we cannot get into shootouts because overall our d is not good enough but lamar was the one who got us into a shootout type of game.....our d is the issue though....especially the secondary.....the cowboys game, big lead....our d almost gives it up....titans game...same issue....it looks like rught now, we have an elway issue....could not stop him and we cannot stop lamar....not good....and don't think we have it easy the last 3 games....we could easily lose 2 out of 3 and be gasping for help from other teams to make it into the playoffs....not nearly over yet...

That's a very big surprise from this season. I really expected this to be an offense that uses their TEs a lot. Most games, they are an afterthought.

eh, hooper played here in atlanta and he was ok....he is not a kittle or the big dude with lv..not even close....then there is ajokeu...he stinks....the other te number 88 drops passes and fumbles the ball.....we probably still need a good te....maybe in the draft.....

We're still in lot better shape than a bunch of teams- most notably the Ravens.

Yeah- this epidemic is spiraling out of control. There's no margin for error anymore to reschedule with the byes out of the picture. Why they're either going to have to add a week to the end of the season for makeup games, or possibly call the whole thing off until playoff time, and freeze the standings. Hey- in that case- we make the playoffs.  :)

shitty way to make the playoffs....but we have no control......steven a and the rest of the first take cast recommended a possilble bubble situation....i could see that happening or the season may be called off  if that does not happen........hoorta makes a good point with the virus spiraling out of control......

53 guys on a roster. And THAT's the guy that gets it....

This defense just went from Stink to Stanky.

whatever can go wrong with this cursed/fucked up franchise.....will go wrong....we really needed him against philly.....wentx is prone to getting sacked....not anymore....not good.....hopefully is not sick sick......good luck to him.....

Some stats to kick off the week...

    Eagles Offense is:

    • #26 in passing yards with 2118.
    • T-30th in YPA with 6.2.
    • T-11th in rush yards with 1105.
    • T-3rd (with us) in YPC averaging 5.1.
    • #24 in scoring averaging 22.6 PPG.
    • #30 in turnovers averaging 1.9 per game.

    Eagles Defense is:

    • #5 in passing yards allowed with 1906.
    • T-9th in YPA allowed with 7.0.
    • #25 in rushing yards allowed with 1197.
    • T-15th in YPC allowed with 4.4.
    • #16 in scoring allowing 25.8 PPG.
    • T-18th in takeaways averaging 1.1 per game.

you can throw out all those stats......somehow with their shitty record, they are still in the playoff hunt in a shitty division...they know this i'm sure....they are going to come at us....we need to punch them in the snout.......throw out those stats...those don't matter.....

#.....On the "Strength of Victory"  metric that puts the Fish ahead of the Browns, note this:

The combined records of  Browns opponents that they beat  is:    13-26-2.  (you count the Bengals current record twice..that is why there are two ties in there)     The combined record of the Dolphins opponents that they beat is  15-27.

I don't know how they count those ties,   But the Dolphins opponents do have  2 more wins than  Browns opponent, but also one more loss.   I do think that if you look at their respective schedules, the Dolphins do have more impressive wins:   over Rams/over Cardinals...two teams that would be in playoffs today.  "Best" Browns win was over 5-3 Colts....who would be out.

don't worry about other teams...you play the other teams schedules game .....it rarely works out.....browns have to control their own destiny.....just win this sunday......they better have a plan to stop watson.....if not, it will be tough.....lets see how good this new coach really is...

Just heard this statistic:     The last   9 teams that started the season  8-0  did NOT go on to win the Super Bowl.

In fact, the team that was the last to go undefeated  has failed to win the Super Bowl the last   18 times. (Includes obviously a number who went less than 8-0)

Six (6) of these team lost the Super Bowl.

The last team to do either was the  2006 Indianapolis Colts.

So, that means, historically, the Steelers this year, despite going 8-0  are an historically longshot to win the Super Bowl, and even have only a 1 in 3 chance of even making it.

kc is going to win the sb....back to back for them.....

As someone said,  we have games left against the teams that right now have 3 of the worst records in the league:   Jets/Jags/Giants.  Plus the team with the 7th worst record, DATs.

So, just based on that, don't count us out.

i don't think we make it.....i thought at first we would....long way to go but i do not see us beating houston who is not a very good team, but they have watson who will probably in the end win the game for them....we suck against qb's like him....we aint beating pitt or balt unless maybe pitt has nothing to play for at the end of the season and will sit starters....but then again we lost to them last yr with a fucking 3rd string qb...philly in a shitty division will probably have something to play for when we get to them in a couple weeks....toss up there....jets and jags we should win...the giants could beat the browns...they are the best of the 3 you mentioned...toss up there...i am afraid miami is going to sneak in at the end....they beat better teams than we did and are playing great......its going to be a nail biter...

I think to best sum this all up is to say...... We all know the short comings of our beloved Cleveland Browns , at this time , during their development... Yes... the LBer's are whoafully slow.. Banged up and outside of Garrett and his efforts... The defense isn't getting much up on anyone... We're 5-3... Lets revel in that for a change.. Yeah... we have holes... as does every team... Rome wasn't built in week let alone a day... Give Baker the remainder of the season... If he stumbles... So be it... But I'm rooting for the kid... It's apparent we're getting nothing for Njoku.. I guess they'll just let him "walk"... No takers... Hopefully Bryant learned from his mistakes and can transition smoothly...

yipper....based on what i saw and heard from the gm on espn...ole baker better have an incredible 2nd half.....gm is more important than herd or bradshaw....it appears berry does not want anything to do with the what, 1 yr left on his contract after this yr unless baker improves dramatically.....also the new coachie coach inherited this team....and aside from barry switzer when he won a sb with dallas, which was jimmy johnson's team, usually every coaching change comes change in alot of the inherited team....i can't see our coach being too happy with what transpired with statefarm baker and yodell.....that project is kaput....

Guess it depends on how you want to look at it. This team just made the statement they are more worried about the future than they are this year buy doing nothing to fix the defense, so if you break down the top ten, personally there are only 3 QB’s on that list that I would swap for Baker right now...

    Mahomes, Watson and Wilson

obviously if you turn back the clock or change team strategy to win now, you’d add in

    Brady, Rodgers and Brees

But those guys could be a year or major injury away from being retired.

Carr and Tannehill are a pass, and Allen has some moments but has the accuracy of a knuckle ball in the wind....

Herbert would be a push based on his 5 game career so far.

If you expand out on the next 10,  based on the same criteria I’d probably swap Baker for Ryan and probably Dak but I’d have to think pretty hard. Stafford.... meh I don’t know....I’d probably pass.

then the rest of the way out you have guys like Lamar and Murray who kind of have to have a offense tailored to their play style, so I guess it depends with those kind of guys, I have friends that love that kind of play and others that can’t stand it, (I’d hate to have a running type QB and have to hold your breath when he takes hits game after game and their shelf life is questionable)

After that I’d say Burrow is the last candidate, who some are super high on, but throws 45+ times a game and has 11 TD’s all season.... 6 against Cleveland’s “Defense”... Baker haters say hell ya give me Burrow, I haven’t seen enough yet, so I’d say push.

you wanna win right now? Then turn that list on its ear and go for a high powered Vet.

If I were Berry, I’d extend the contract, build my team for two more years, see what he ends up looking like make a call in his 5th year to trade or resign.

Going off that list of swaps and maybes, that puts Baker at about 12-15 QB in the league. I’d say average to above average is a good estimate.Considering the Browns usual “shit sandwich to soggy shit sandwich” QB play....

if the bengals get it right, they will be quite good very soon.....they have a winner at qb for sure.....

By definition, to be average Baker would be somewhere around the 15th or 16th best QB in the NFL. Do you think he is?

Let's look. By the ratings (and I realize you can argue the ratings alone doesn't always tell the full story but it's a good start)...

    R. Wilson

    Mahomes

    Rogers

    Carr

    Tannehill

    D. Watson

    Brees

    Herbert

    Brady

    J. Allen

    Big Ben

    Dak

    Kyle Allen

    Bridgewater

    N. Mullens

    M. Ryan

    Rivers

    Fitzpatrick

    Stafford

    Goff

    Minshew

    L. Jackson

    K. Murray

    Jimmy G

    Cousins

    Burrow

    Baker

    Tua

    Kaskins

    Foles

    Driskel

    Tyrod Taylor

    Dan Jones

    Cam Newton

    Wentz

That puts him at 27, which is far below average. And looking at the order of the list, it passes my eye test as far as being accurate in determining quality of play. I'd move a few up or down a few spots, but it's pretty on the $.

So even if you can argue Baker maybe a few spots better, he's still around the 25th best or so. Is that acceptable for the 1st pick overall in the draft halfway through his 3rd season?  If the Browns were told,"By his 3rd season, Baker will be the 27th rated passer" would they have taken him #1 overall?

Of course, I am in no way suggesting now would be the time for a change, no way. He gets at least this season to show what he has got, barring him just falling of a cliff, especially considering we have to see of the passing game blossoms without forcing it to OBJ so often. (But others say the passing attack will suffer sans OBJ.) The 2nd half of this season is huge in determining Baker's future. As things stand, his last year option is probably safe, but if he doesn't ascend from where he is now, a big, new franchise QB deal is not likely. Baker, it's time. You are at a crossroad.

right now he is under the gun....they had gm berry on espn.....it was a clip from what looked like some kind of presser this week or maybe late last week....it appears right now they are not going to pick up the last yr of his contract....baker really needs to pick it up in the second half......my guess is berry is seeing the other 3 qb's in the division doing quite well....this burrow kid....look out......if the bengals do it right, i can see them leapfrogging way past us and the ravens in the very near future....and when ben retires, maybe even them......berry sees all this i am sure...

According to an inside source, OBJ and Baker never really hit it off, on the field or off.

As a matter of fact, it was so far off from working out, that the source said OBJ may have played his last game in Cleveland.

I warned of this long ago, and now it appears I was right all along.

you be right.......the gm has baker on his radar now also....obj is gone.....baker might be to if he does not come up with a really good second half of the season....gm righ now is not on his side....can't blame him at all....overall, ole statefarm baker is a below avg qb...not the kind you want to guide you to a championship...

I get what common sense says especially since Baker broke the Browns record after OBJ went out. Let’s not forget that OBJ played a huge role in beating Dallas and IND.

I do feel as if Baker was too inexperienced to receive such a polarizing weapon. However, I also think that having OBJ has boosted Mayfield’s development.

they had a clip of our gm on espn the other day....what's his name....berry.....it appears he is not happy at all with mayfield.....it looks to me that ol baker is going to have to have a hell of a second half of the season to be the qb of this team....first of all anyone playing dallas should get a boost....that 50 yd td run yodell had where he started about 15 yds behind the los...it that was the steelers d, he would have got his fucking head ripped off....so don't look at dallas as a confidence booster...jeeez...the bottom line is ,,,the yodell baker state farm mayfield projiect was a bust....

As I have said, I don't think that the Browns had to make a trade at all to perhaps upgrade this team....this defense.  There are guys on the street who could help us in a playoff run.

What I think this signals is that the Browns FO is wholly uninterested in seeing the team make the playoffs this year.   They have been doing the "rebuilding"  thing for so long that they are perpetually in that mode, and they have no clue apparently how to deal with a potential playoff run.

you are right.........i don't think we will make the playoffs....i'm not even sure we will end up with a winning record....i think the texans are going to whoop us as a matter of fact...why you say....because they have watson...we suck against his type of qb'ing....was it carr that ran for 18 yds on that 3rd and 17 last week...i forget...someone did...i think it was him...i see once again, and not just against the texans, that our d will be on the field for quite some time...again.....it will be that way probably for most of the rest of the season.....frustration will set in....

The D was leading the entire NFL in turnovers/takeaways for much of the first 7 weeks of the season.   That's a pretty good place to rank #1 in the NFL so I'll take it..  Myles Garrett, who received a healthy contract extension, had a lot to do with causing many of these turnovers.

We have 8 weeks left - so let's see what happens from here...

currently the d ranks 19th....so it is not the worse but far from being an elite d....i would have thought it was worse than 19th....they are probably lumped in with the other teams that are 20th thru 25 by give and take a few yds....don't know for sure....

    Seriously...

When are you going to learn to wait for it to actually happen before taking your victory lap?

    Or are you into abuse?

i don't think you need to hear it from any source.....if you can't tell they did not hit it off, you need to get out of denial....it was another failed cleveland project....i know everytime i saw them on the sidelines was after a miscommunicated pass play....yodell pointing one direction and baker pointing another direction after the play.....i don't think they disliked each other....they just did not have the chemistry........don't know what will happen to yodell but what fucking team would want him....maybe the pats....they have to be desparate because they only have 1 reciever and he is currently banged up....however, they tried it with antonio and we all saw how that worked out....in any event, i think the browns are already trying to figure out how to get rid of this guy.....

I'm still not convinced Lamar Jackson is a long term at answer at QB for them... Or anybody for that matter... Yes he has a nice skill set... But at some point.. His mojo has to run out.. He still throws like a girl.. Run first QB's normally don't last long.. Yes I know there are anomalies like Mike Vick and Steve Young.. But even they learned to win in the pocket...

he sure can't win the big one......but he beats the shit out of us all the time.......not saying much since its the cleblin clowns...

Unfortunately the defense was still atrocious a week ago, we just happened to have an outstanding drive at the end of the game. Think about forcing 1 punt in 2 games...and last week, you basically got bailed out by two plays (int and fumble) or else it would have been curtains.  Remember that Dallas game? We lose that game unless OBJ rips off that reverse TD. Something is very wrong with them, and I guess we just need to hope we can outscore everyone because we ain't stopping nobody.

This is still the best season I can remember in recent history, so I don't want to lose sight of that. But...but...damn man. It's so hard to watch. Can't tackle and can't ever make a play on 3rd or 4th down. Ever.

if obj would have ran that same play against the steelers, he would have got his head ripped off....dallas on defense makes us look like the 85 bears...thats how bad they are...

until we show that we can stop the run....and with this front 7 it looks almost impossible.....we might win 3  more games...jets and giants.and possibly jax...the d needs to be addressed this off season....i don't think we are making the playoffs this yr even with the new format.....unless the d comes aroung....
