  1. While I'll not prognosticate that the loss to the Titans signals the end of Lamar Jackson's dominance, the Titans exposed his weakness and capitalized. I did hear Jim Nance say during the game that each of the Ravens' three losses was by double digits. That data shows me that he did not come back from big deficits. As far as Baker, I agree with your assessment of the AFC QB situation, it's pretty slim on MLK day 2020, and would say that he has a wonderful opportunity to lead his team into the competitive company of the elite. My goal for the Browns' 2020 postseason is to see Baker during the game and not during commercial breaks.
  2. Instead of LSU enjoying this time now they are going be be in full blown CYA mode. People are going to question if this was the first time it happened. They will question if players with no eligibility are getting money behind closed doors. The film breakdown, no doubt, has already begun.
  3. I'm currently reading a book called Flight of the Eagle: The Grand Strategies that Brought America from Colonial Dependence to World Leadership by Conrad Black. LBJ once said the same of Gerald Ford. Thanks for the chuckle!
  4. I would have really liked Kubiak to be considered.
  5. This is the most spot assessment of the entire situation. When put in these terms, haven't the Browns hired all of these guys in the past? They hired young coordinators, they have hired guys with titles but little real decision power and they have hired guys that built short term schemes to catch lightning in a bottle. I would have to go with McDaniels. My greatest concern is his fealty to New England. Not that he wouldn't be committed to winning, but that, if in the event of a vacancy, he would head back. Exhibit A: the way he strung out the Colts. I think he got home sick. Reich has two McDaniels hires on his staff and McDaniels never even set foot in the building. I don't care about his time in Denver. People point out Belichick's time in Cleveland as less than stellar, though rarely do they mention the 1994 team that went 11-5. Belichick, like McDaniels, also had his head fake moment with the Jets. I like the rest of you, want someone that wants to be part of the Cleveland Browns, not someone that wants to coach until Belichick retires and gets called back to Kraftland to get the band back together.
  6. As Browns' fans we have every reason not to have faith in this search. This will be the 12th Head Coach (interims included) and 10th General Manager in the last 20 seasons. None of us can defend anything ownership have done for the sake of stability and continuity since 1999. I believe Jimmy Haslam is sick of and embarrassed by losing. Billionaires, inherently, do not lose very often; from a business standpoint, I'd say the Haslams have lost more as owners of the Browns than they were used to losing with Pilot/Flying J - legal or illegal. Growing up around the business and being involved in it every day is an irreplaceable practical experience. He hasn't been around football every day, and the learning curve is apparent. I have to believe he is ready to do whatever it takes to win. Can he get out of his own way? I don't know. I hope. Do I believe he wants this organization to win? Yes. Do I believe his intentions are of the best? I do. Being an NFL owner is a mighty select and exclusive club. Every time all 32 owners are together and 20-25 of the other 31 owners give the same look and same song and dance when together, there probably gets some fire in the belly to win. No matter what, like you guys, I will find the best in this and will faithfully cheer whatever front office is in place in Berea with whatever staff and roster are on the sidelines between now and the 2020 season. Eventually, something will stick.
  7. I may be too simple of a man but a little research on Mike McCarthy shows that in 12 seasons in Green Bay he was 135-85-2. Included in that record is a 10-8 playoff record with one Super Bowl championship. The Browns have won 47 games since 1999. Should one count the Browns last 18 playoff games, they would have to go back to 1968. I don't care if it was the NFC North. Why would any fan be against such a hire? What have we really to lose as fans? We tried the next genius on the coaching tree, a couple times. We tried the lightening in a bottle offensive-minded du jour a time or two. We tried the defensive guy. We had a disciplinarian, he was not retained. We tried the up and coming offensive mind diamond in the rough. Remember when we were all afraid someone might snatch Freddie up? We even let a rookie have his input in the process. How about a guy that just wins? Let's not over complicate and over analyze. That road, in my opinion, has not previously worked.

    Gary Kubiak?

As a head coach. I guess that's been put on hold until they find a GM.
  9. I get my NFL information from you guys. Some will be flattered, some are scratching your heads. I'm not in "the know" on a lot of things. This time last year, some of you were high on Stefanski. Now I read some of you think the Vikings turnaround is due Kubiak. His resume speaks for itself. I'm not sure if he's a disciplinarian, but he's been around Hall of Famers so he can navigate the egos. Why not Kubiak?
  10. It truly would. ...and so many have so much disdain for Butch Davis.
  11. I never gave an opinion on Haslem. I am disappointed and dissatisfied with the continued losing. None can dispute that feeling. But at least we know who is making the decisions and who can be praised or critiqued.
  12. Another head coach. Another front office shake up. I just want the Brownies to win. But now, there are no ifs or maybes. The Haslams are blowing this up. At the very least, we now know who is fully responsible for every decision. From this point on, they will shoulder the burden or accept the praise for every front office and personnel decision.
  13. Many of the names on this list were in my thought process. 1. Joe Thomas 2. Steve Everitt - a lockdown center next to an All Pro Guard solidifies a quality OL. Mike Baab was a formidable center as well but he didn't wear a Browns bandana as a Raven. 3. Clay Matthews 4. Hanford Dixon/Frank Minnifield - either, it doesn't matter, but a CB that puts the fear of God in a QB. 5. Eric Metcalf/Josh Cribbs - either, it doesn't matter, good teams score Special Teams TDs.
  14. This season has been disappointing so far and while I don't blame anyone for melting down because of how attached we get to the Browns I'd like to take inventory of our situation. 1) Freddie shouldn't be fired because nobody in their right mind would come to a franchise that has has nine formal head coaches and two interim head coaches in the last 20 seasons. Freddie needs to be made to hire an OC. As bone-headed as it's been, I believe it's best to let this play out. He/They could do nothing but fail given the expectations that were set plus the publicity. Honestly, what the hell have we got to lose? 2) Plaster me all you want, but I believe Baker Mayfield gives this franchise it's best shot to win at QB since Bernie. We've tried the QB thing, only 24-25 other times the last two decades. Much like the head coach situation, burning through them hasn't exactly worked. Last year he lived by gambles, this year he's died by gambles. 3) I do believe they are heading towards some difficult/maybe not decisions about where to out money. Too much money is tied up in skill positions and not enough is budgeted for the OL. I expect that will change. They need to place priority picks on offensive linemen. 4) I live in Colt's Country so that's my media market/sports talk radio exposure. Denzel Ward is looking like Bob Sanders. He can make an impact in the field when he's not hurt, but he always hurt. 5) A first year coach and a team if personal brands can make things difficult. A year ago Indianapolis was 1-5 and people were questioning Frank Reich and Chris Ballard. I believe the Brownies will turn this around. This, too, shall pass.
  15. There are more factors than I'll list but I'll offer the 2018 Colts as an example. Frank Reich was a first year coach, that had only been an OC prior to being hired as a head coach. He was not even the Colts first choice. They started 2018 1-6 and things have turned out okay in Indianapolis with less offensive firepower and a significantly stronger offensive line.
  16. Normally this is done over coals but I opted for the easy (lazy) route. I had seven beef back rib bones that got a couple coats of olive oil and rub. I foiled them and left them in a 250° degree oven for five hours, then broiled to get a crust. My only complaint about beef ribs is the amount of flesh. The first two ribs on the shoulder end are nice and meaty. Towards the short loin end, they cut them a little slim...there's so much meat on the prime rib roast a butcher can spare a little less for the roast and more for the ribs.
  17. Grew up eating a lot of cabbage rolls and stuffed peppers. My mom would put chopped chicken livers in the beef/rice mixture that would send them over the top.
  18. The Colts parted ways with their OL coach, who was a McDaniels' hire, as Frank Reich wants "his guy." That OL was piecemeal at the start of the season, lost their RG and was regarded as one of the NFL's better lines. I believe he'd be a good addition if an OL coach is not in place.
