Welp. I like this matchup before Watson was out. I think our defense shows up and then gets tired in the second half. Someone has to deliver a shot on Deebo even if it means 15 yards.

I am assuming ejections can only help us. I could see our defense barking at them they are playing with an edge this year and probably tired of hearing about the 49er offense

Someone posted a similar injury that Brees had and he played through it. I don’t know how unique it is other than he may have to play through the discomfort. Can he make this worse? I’m sure which is the bigger concern. Can he play through a little discomfort like Burrow did and others before him have? He will have almost four weeks rest next week and next week is a must win and it is difficult without him. Jobs are on the line…not sure how sympathetic folks are going to be.

Niners have 31 points in 5 first drives this season. Gotta stop that. Schwartz is 7-1 against young Shanny. What I’ve seen thus far from the Niners they haven’t played a team yet that can matchup with all these receiving options…we have the personnel. The Cowboys were throwing out guys on their practice squad so we’re the Giants three weeks ago. They been fortunate to be healthy and the schedule has been easy thus far. They were beatable with a healthy Browns squads Myles will move around I didnt see that from Parsons last week. Purdy is not a break contain QB so that helps. I got nothing for the O. I expect PJ Walker to check it down often (actually an improvement) but Bosa Warner and Co play in space and read and react better than anyone. We need turnovers, field position and bad weather

In retrospect, we had some horrendous rosters from 2000-2019. Hell I knew some of those teams were bad when the season started. And Most of those years a mediocre season was a win. Aside from maybe 2021, I believe this is the best roster we’ve had - the concerning part our QB isn’t showing Top 8 form which he once had and we are probably going to be weaker overall next season when the cap restrictions come into play and we have to make tough choices (who stays and who goes). I held this year to be if not now than when. Maybe we find the next Brock Purdy in the 7th round and then Next Shanahan when the inevitable happens with our HC…even then we still have the toxic owner….sounds like I’m talking myself into mediocrity.

Notre Dame offense poses a challenge. Their QB doesn’t do stupid things with the ball and they have a stable of backs that can get yards after contact. USC doesn’t tackle well and their stops come by way of turnovers. Good matchup for ND.

I think he leaves a lot to be desired in both realms which makes doing both next to impossible. if I’m Van Pelt and I had a little fire in my gut I would have left a few years ago. But It is hard to assess someone’s desire beyond making a living and being comfortable with where you are in life. Exactly why I say maybe Schwartz even with this success may not want to escape for a HC gig.

I think the only collateral damage with all the eventual change could be Jim Schwartz. But admittedly after the past two years I’m pretty easy to please on that side of the ball. I believe the defense loves to play for the guy though. And I know Bubba is respected and he wouldn’t meddle with the offense - we could do worse or be left with worse

Stefanski…Jonah Hill…Wills gone…The next HC will have to prove to be a Watson Whisperer and bring him back to prominence. 2025 could be a complete overhaul with a first year QB- Panther esque year 2026 another new HC.

Why not us? I’m gonna keep it short and give mainly opinion and toss in a couple facts I’ve seen about 2.5 9er games (Steelers, Giants, Cowboys) in each the opposing defenses didn’t have a prayer. Mainly because they could not matchup with the 9er Receiving weapons. The Cowboys had JAGs and street free agents last week. I think we stand a better chance there. And I read somewhere that Schwartz is 7-1 against Kyle. I’ll ignore the offense lead by PJ Walker and I’m hoping we can get a turnover or two and score in the redzone and at least convert some first downs in other drives. We are at home - that foghorn is left by the Bay. The Niners just defeated NFL royalty. Teams normally show up 75% of the time each season. Odd in our favor odds against the Niners

I didn’t see Purdy uncomfortable all night. They doubled and chipped Parsons…and blitzed just the front four most of the night. It looked like a Patrick Mahomes type defense. The Cowboys are thin in the secondary they couldn’t man up or find WRs (Niners destroyed them on crossing routes) when they played zones. Moving Garrett around is important. Making Purdy hold the ball a second longer because of coverage is important. We need to pressure him with 4/5/6 or 7 whatever it takes but he can’t sit back there and wait for the crossing routes to come open. It is an impressive group of WRs though getting YAC…they have three or four guys that can get big yards after the catch. Fred Warner on the other side had himself a game. It looked the Cowboys had something on the ground a few times when they ran the ball with four wide and Prescott in shotgun…any and all traditional run sets the Niners were too stout.

Culture can elevate your weak spots. We don’t have the Established culture…it was brewing a couple years ago.

I think the 49ers are coming in with confidence. we just need to worry about McCaffery, Bosa, Aiyuk, Warner, Kittle…they way they execute, their play caller, etc. Weakness? Hopefully they are over confident sleeping walking on a 10am PT Sunday non conference game
