How do they only have four road games

Concerning Stef.. It's the chicken or the egg first analogy... We love it when it works.. We hate it when it does not..  And we second guess everything asking.. "Which is it" I know it is always easy to say.. "We should've done this" Sometime you just have to man up and say .. "That defense was good and out smarted us" Then move forward and live for the next play... It's the opposing defenses job to stop what you do and vice versa.... There's no free ride to victory... Even 2nd and 3rd stringers are good football players and better equipped than just any common man off the street.... (Vince Papali) was an anomaly.... Or they could just get any Joe blow bag of doughnuts off the street... I think these people that make it to the NFL are pretty special individuals talent wise or they wouldn't be selected in the first place...... While I get a lot of it is coaching.. At some point when do players bear the responsibility for failure to execute a given play...

When it is time to make a play We need to beat people over the head with our strengths. Watching games around league we have some areas/players that are elite with some skill sets.

We are great short yardage team running the ball inside.  We got maulers/technicians inside and a hammer running the ball.  3rd and 4th and short should be advantage Browns almost every time.

    With our 230M QB back…

We have a WR with elite route running skills.  3rd and medium or long reach into the bag and find that play call designed to go to him.

We have an elite catch radius Redzone TE.  Find him.

Looks like we have the some fleet footed lineman and patient backs with good vision and hands to make the screen game work.  We are deploying this often now(finally)- this is great.

True; and I think Daboll was a great offensive coach in Buffalo to warrant appreciation with what he did for the Giants last year as a rookie Head Coach. Some markets are a little more patient and fair than the New York/New Jersey and Philly (just a softball throw away).   The Giants barometer of building a program isn't make the playoffs (and even win a wild card game) only to be followed by a flatline the next year. I don't remember Tom Coughlin or Bill Parcells excusing losing with injuries and they both won more than 1 Super Bowl there.  In fact, the Giants beat Buffalo in the Super Bowl with back-up QB Jeff Hostetler starting the game because Phil Simms was injured.  Philly made the playoffs all the time with Andy Reid and lost in the only Super Bowl they appeared in with him.  None of that excited the majority of their fan base any more than Santa Claus did.  That competitive division is the world Daboll resides in right now so 1 quick honeymoon won't define the loyalty/patience of the fanbase and ownership in a world of what have you done for me lately.  They won't fire him this year; but if next year looks just like this - they'll be very tempted to do so.

Matt Nagy was Coach of the Year with the Bears and made the playoffs twice early on. He was a bounce off the upright on a FG attempt away from winning a playoff game with Mitch Trubisky at QB.  After that, he lost 4 straight years with a franchise/ownership that was way more patient than their fanbase wanted them to be.

Back to my purpose for this thread, Stefanski isn't hiding behind excuses (like the QB situation the last 2 years).  The Browns are 5-3 in spite of it.  Like Schwartz looked us in the eye during his 1st press conference "Coach Stefanski is the reason I'm here."  Other injuries?  Conklin is one of the best Right Tackles in the league when healthy; and there's a rookie replacing him more efficiently with every start.  Nick Chubb?  ESPN scrolled that the Browns running game was averaging 177 yards a game to rank #1 over a 3 game stretch heading into last Sunday.  Last year, our offense averaged about 28 points a game with Brissett starting.  The problem was the FO blew off the IDL/DT positions to stop anyone from running 5 Ks with the football between the tackles on our D.  To get Schwartz to be interested we all know he had to be assured the FO would do an aggressive overhaul on the DL.  All this nonsense that he's a sissy when he goes for it on 4th down as often as he does is absurd.  Granted, there's times we wished he's made better decision on the play choice.

Let me start off by saying the additions to the defense were needed and they are staying healthy and playing well.  Most notably the interior defensive lineman.  Lots of focus there but let’s not forget some of other guys we’ve seen in different Browns schemes now because The holdovers are playing well.  Jordan Elliot made no plays was one of the worst DL last year maybe the previous year too…he’s a solid rotational piece making splash plays when they are presented.  The secondary looks comfortable more when they play man and they aren’t trying to communicate with each other in zone coverage.  It is a talented group that’s also played together in two different regimes with different results.

I don’t have the advanced metrics in front of me.  It seems to me we are around the ball and with the exception of the big plays given up against Indy we are limiting YAC big time.  Less buffoonery.

Most notably our LBs are flying up and making tackles in the flats or breaking up passes there.  JOK is thriving, Taki is playing smart football, Anthony Walker is healthy and playing impactful football.  The argument I hear is there aren’t bodies on them and this is notable in the run game.  Although  I saw times last year they were untouched no impediment to the ball and they were MIA not making plays.

Most importantly our superstar is playing at the highest level he’s ever played. If I’m leading this group I would spend days/weeks finding ways to deploy this chess piece….it shows that this defensive regime is mindful of this and doing just that.  Jim Schwartz was a much needed breath of fresh of air.  You could tell He did his homework on our personnel.

  4. I don’t have a problem with Stef being aggressive and going for it in our own territory or going for TDs near the goalline and passing up FGs.  From the posts in here, I think it’s kind of 50/50 is support of that.

I don’t like that he gets too cute with the play calls in some of those situations.  Last year, 4th and 1 (I think Miami or Baltimore) and he throws 40 yard pass with a backup QB that’s broken up.  Or this year…1st in goal with a 3rd string QB he’s throwing in the end zone first three plays - instead of turning and handing off to one of the best short yardage backs in the game.  Then the Seattle game. We need a big play put the ball in the hands of the guy best suited to make the play care more about that than trying to fool the other team or trying to show your play call prowess.  Know your personnel.

That was very good.  Thank you!    Lucky for Brian Daboll, if Ken Dorsey continues to have Buffalo's offense looking as close to average as they've been in awhile - he may have his old team re-interested if his new team gives him his walking papers too soon.

The Giants and the Jets show us just how bad it can get on offense.

I don’t know if it is a Daboll problem.  And He has enough Godwill from last year - that was a major overachievement…thanks to some savvy one score wins.

They’ve had a lot of injuries not just with Saquon and Dimes. Overall, It is not a very good roster…the Jets are IMO more talented and probably by a good margin too.

Do we really care ?

Man I do.  I haven’t truly followed a Michigan story like this is a long time.  I’m probably 25 years into this rivalry I don’t know the heartbreak (OSU perspective) like others do, but I do know the self righteous smarter than all, ethical above all that the university up North displays often.  The blasting OSU took when they sold gold pants for kicking their @ss…and the insults on Tressel for the way he handled things.  There wasn’t a penalty harsh enough for OSU and Tressel.  Or the poking fun at the “we didn’t come here to play school” shortly after a UM guy was toting an illegal firearm.

Moving on…This doesn’t look like a good defense to me….the “well he was doing it too” defense…with your parents or in an adjudicative setting this defense probably works 5% of the time.  If OSU or Rutgers is a co-conspirator or has their own elaborate scheme bring them forward too. But This isn’t a Rutgers hearing.

When I lived in a frat house back in BC (Before Cellphones) - we had 1 REALLY miserable guy that looked like Bonanza's Hoss Cartwright.  Anyway, whenever someone had a lousy day - they'd go talk to him to realize just how possible it was to have a day 10 times worse.  In some outrageous way, this guy would leave people feeling like their day wasn't so bad at all.  For old times sake, Thanks Andy!

The point of all that, starting with their much anticipated opener,  the pass pro the Jets had in store for Aaron Rodgers had him on a collision course for more broken bones than Evel Knieval.   After a 26 yard run by Breece Hall, Rodgers faced enormous pressure on his 1st 3 pass attempts of the season.  Of course the 3rd time he tore his Achilles Tendon and went on IR.

Since then, I've tried watching them since I have Garrett Wilson on my fantasy football team.  Anyone complaining about the Browns Offense should watch how the Jets railroaded their passing game into asking Zach Wilson into pretending he's a immobile but cerebral QB like Bernie Kosar.   They don't even TRY to run the ball with backs like Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook. As good of a Coach as Robert Saleh can be - the fans of that franchise only see an offensive train-wreck.  I understand they have injuries up front; but an experienced OC should be able to adapt to the situation.  The last game they played looked like an offensive forfeit all night.

I think there's recent gossip that Aaron Rodgers might have a chance to return; but nothing has changed since his very 1st series that planted him on IR.  Having said that, Rodgers will probably have a lot of input in what they will be doing if he does come back.

The only time I've seen the Browns offense look almost that bad was against the Rats. This week against the Rats, I hope they stay patient and persistent trying to run the ball.  When they are successful with that - the passing game will be easier.  They have to be patient on offense and ready to secure the football on every play; because that team gang tackles and jars the football loose.  The fundamental of securing the football needs to be practiced daily in lieu of just saying "we can't turn it over."  If the Browns do those things - I like their chances to Rathouse Baltimore.

Let me do an Andy impression

Right City wrong team…the Giants are the absolute worst and it is so bad now they are almost forgotten by the New York media.  The Giants Jets game a few weeks ago…an absolute train wreck that I had to sit through.   The Jets had a slightly better grasp of offensive principles but what a terribly played game though.

The Jets are bad too.  I listen to NFL radio on my 100 minute car rides back and forth to work.  The Jets usually consume about a quarter of that time each day.  Bob Papa the Giants guy (given up on the Giants) mentions them at least every 10/15 minutes.

Their offensive line is very shaky too.  I have Garrett Wilson too in fantasy…I can’t stand Zach Wilson because of that and his play (mainly decision making) he is horrendous beyond the fantasy numbers.  No pocket awareness.  He Doesn’t slide away from pressure- he runs backwards and takes 15 yard losses.  They are 5-3  maybe 6-2 if they would have gone out and gotten someone better than Zach Wilson-  maybe 60 or so out there.

Fantasy football this year I have Garrett Wilson who has a Zach Wilson problem.  Bijan Robinson who has an Art Smith problem.  Justin Fields who has offensive philosophy and injury problem.  I’m lacking accountability because I thought I had damn good team this year.

  8. #3 I can’t even imagine what it would be like for the Joe Buck games.

#1 looks good with some modifications
    Kicks- 1 point for 33 yard attempt - 2 points for 50.

If you miss the attempt there is no kickoff and the other team takes over at the spot of the kick.   Enhances safety less kickoffs.

Two point conversion from the 3.  Three point conversion from the 20.

I see Wills as "Untradeable" He's got a season ending knee injury.. By the same token.. It's just not working for him here.. It may just be a question of system too.. Just maybe he's not good enough or versatile enough to work in Callahan's system. He's probably better equipped to be in a Bill Wylie road grader system where pass blocking is secondary...

The problem is Half of the teams have a Wills type player at tackle they would like to replace next season.

If you are good to solid tackle you are going get paid this coming offseason.

great sport. Weight cutting was little excessive for those that wanted that.

It is football and wrestling or both growing up in Ohio.  Nowadays you get these dumb @ss HS football coaches that want potential wrestlers to weight train and skip wrestling. Stupid.

I’m not trying to be Al Bundy…at 43 hell no.

It is a pesky frustrating injury that requires rest…pain meds and a high tolerance for pain.

But the problem with rotator cuff injury/inflamation is that it flares up so easily on a regular basis until full recovery. That often takes months and is unpredictable for someone who has to use that shoulder daily to be good at that position. I'm with Dutch on this one. No MD worth his salt would try to guarantee enough recovery to compete at the NFL level for the remainder of the season. Sign one of the FAs available for insurance purposes or write off the best shot the Browns have had in years.

I had a partial tear in mine….wrestling injury.  When I gave it time to heal postseason (2 months no activity) I had a moments where it felt great…and then I’d throw something or put a milk jug in the fridge and it felt like a knife going in through the top of my shoulder.

any workout I did I had extra strength Tylenol…and it felt great…then felt awful after it wore off for a good six months.  One of the most frustrating injuries…but my pain threshold is high and the Tylenol masked the pain when I didn’t want to feel the pain.

I don’t know if  he can suck it up this year…he may have to….jobs are on the line.

There it is in a nutshell. They need to stick to drafting only. Let the HC tell them the kinds of players he needs and run them his own way. Hunt is pure money when it comes to yardage needed for 1st downs or TDs in the redzone. Use him properly. Analytics overthinks it to the point of losing touch with what we have, a great back who will get you what you need.

EDIT: My own brain told me you have two downs with Hunt running to win or lose this game. To me it's like having a pair of aces in the hole. Go all in when you have the chance.

Hmmm…3rd and 3…a hunt run gets us 2 yards.  2 minute warning.  4th down a hunt run gets us the needed yard.  Hawks use a TO.  1:55 left.  First down Browns.

Kneel down 1:50 last timeout used.

    Kneel down 1:15.

    Kneel down :30 seconds.

Punt :22 seconds no timeouts for the Hawks. Buried deep.

Hunt two tries for three yards.  I like the analytics there given the circumstances and the flow of the game…Kevin still gets to be risky.

In hindsight a running play would definitely have made more sense with a backup QB but nobody's calling out the defense for giving up 60 yds and a real easy TD on  a simple screen. Notably this is the 3rd game in a row where the defense collapsed in the last two minutes, we were lucky on the last two games to escape with a win.

Agree with you.  And 24 points was five points too many.  The coverage was way too soft that last drive…they needed 30 yards not 80 yards with no timeouts.

I think most are pleased with the improvement on that side of the ball.  I would argue some are oversimplifying the improvement.  You can point to some additions Hurst, Tomlinson, Smith and Thornhill…but Myles is utilized in a more impactful way.  Jordan Elliot looks like a new player, JOK has 9 TFLs.  The defense unlike last year has had more signature moments and less collapses like the Two TD in two minute collapse against the Jets in 2022.

Honest question…is there a player on that side of the ball from the 2022 squad that isnt performing as well as they did last year?

There IS that!  And do you REALIZE how easy it is to call plays when you have a QB with PJ's resume in such a traditionally quiet stadium like Seattle has?

The one place I think Stefanski can help himself & PJ out better is the choice of formations that don't railroad PJ into the sharp teeth of trouble.  I like a 2nd option for a QB so I would love a dump off option instead of going empty backfield. It just seems like we use that formation at the worst possible time.  Outside of that, they have to execute what they prepared to do all week.  Getting behind early didn't help us in the end - those TDs Seattle scored never got subtracted.

Last year Stefanski did a nice job when Jacoby Brissett was here. This year, he has a QB that got cut by the Chicago Bears in preseason.  If that's an easy gig for Stefanski - I'm all ears.

IMO, fans only want to think there's 1 problem.  "Yeah, just fire Stefanski." Okay, who is going to hire the replacement?  The same guy that hired Hue Jackson and Freddie Kitchens?  Be careful what you wish for.  If you noticed, when Kitchens was here - he ALSO had an Offensive Coordinator named Todd Monken that wasn't allowed to call the plays.  That's no different than reducing Alex Van Pelt to a committee member today.  The trend of doing this is about 3 Head Coaches deep now, which makes me think this idea comes from someone in the front office.  I could be wrong - but it's pretty freakin consistent.

Any analytics department that puts Our most effective short yardage back on the sideline the whole fourth quarter while being in 3rd and short throughout the quarter is broken.

Try this for analytics…Ball in the hands of a QB with 51.8 QBR.  What could possibly go wrong?  He doesn’t execute a decent play design? Likely.  He turns the ball over? possibly.

What a painful ass game to watch (24 punts).  I sat through it with my wife (Giants Fan).

We were calling DeVito…Danny DeVito.  Poor kid (local product) grew up not too far from the Meadowlands. Daboll was anti Stef, no trust whatsoever in throwing the ball.  The kid had a few opportunities but not a lot.  It was definately hanging on for a 10-7 game run the ball and get a chip shot to make it a 6 point game…Gano had other plans.

    not sure about Zack Wilson.

I will say both of those guys don’t have the luxury of the offensive line that we have.

They still had to go around 60 yards to score a touchdown.

Which they did in fairly easy fashion. You'd think THAT would be what people are pissed off about now, but no, the complete unlucky bounce off a defender's helmet is the ultimate sin.

True.  And I didn’t like the cushion we were giving on the last drive.

The Defense came out flat and put us in hole.  Can’t forget that but we can’t have three turnovers and expect to win this game.

I thought advantage in the trenches for us I would have rather seen a 3rd and 3 run - worst case you make them drive 90 yards
