DON'T beat yourself up Nick... When you come right down to it, the object of the game is to score as many points as possible. Up 14 with less than 2 minutes left should have been plenty enough.

I like that he took ownership here. Maybe that attitude will rub off on some of the ladies that were whining about being booed.

And it was clearly a mistake. Even Flacco mentioned they wouldn't have won if Chubb just took the first and let the clock run. As I mentioned before, it is easy to forgive him, the way our offense leans on him, but it should be recognized as a mistake. That attention to detail and situational awareness will be required in order to have a chance to win the big one in the coming seasons.

The missed extra point is not the fault of the special teams coach, hell, I doubt any special teams coach honestly knows jack shit about kicking field goals. I get the impression they just tell the kicker to "go over there and kick some balls".

But the special teams did allow a fake punt to succeed, in a situation that was just screaming "THIS BAD TEAM THAT HAS NOTHING TO LOSE IS GOING TO FAKE THE PUNT." Hell, look back on this thread, I literally wrote WATCH FOR THE FAKE!

Re PAT: I distinctly remember a defender charging at York from the left side, about two or three steps away from the ball. Presumably that made him rush his kick. That breakdown in protection is on the coach's plate.

Didn't anyone else notice that? Maybe @tiamat63in his video review?

While I am often critical of coach 'Fancy,' he did a fine job yesterday. Focussed on the run, and short passing game. No 4th down shenanigans, and little to no fancy stuff. No frills, just move the chains football is how you can win games with this Browns team.

It is the defense, specifically the secondary that is in complete disarray for the second game running. Considering this is supposed to be a strong position group for us, that is completely unacceptable. Joe Woods deserves the vast majority of the blame here.

Neither can Stefanski help Chubb's decision to score, rather than slide and run the clock out like he should have done in a close game like this. Easy to forgive Chubb, since he carries the team on offense, but still a mistake that needs to be addressed to prevent reoccurrence.

    45.

Chubb and Hunt with ball in hands 45 times.  Now I think you need to get creative with it in short pass game or split out and on some simple routes.  They could look something like 23/13 carries respectively and 9 receptions between the two.

Throw in a couple run plays to Schwartz and Felton.

That gives you 18-20 other pass plays split it up with playaction and high percentage throws to DPJ, Njoku and Cooper.

Of course take care of the football and Our play caller can’t get too cute now is not the time.

Defense give us a couple three and outs where we can shift field position and one turnover…two and we are golden.  And Bow up in the redzone give up more FGs than TDs.

    This is the weekly formula.

We aren’t going win the next couple months with splashy QB play like other teams.  So quit calling for Jacoby to sit.

Browns 24-16 this week.  Jets score late

Agree with all of this. Only reason I am calling for Jacoby to sit, is the rushing ability Dobbs showed in pre-season, in addition to his arm. Having a rushing QB in addition to Chubb and Hunt seems an absolute nightmare for opposing defenses. Something they would have to adjust their entire game-plan to. You could even call a two tight end set with no backs as a 'trick' play, have them think: "they are definitely passing now," and still run the football with Dobbs.

Coaching staff showed some creativity with running plays week 1. Handing the ball off one way, and then a second time to Schwartz for him to sweep the other way at full speed was quite ingenious. Mixing things up from rushing up the middle like that prevents defenses to just stack the box, the latter being potential kryptonite to our offense. And doing so rushing instead of passing seems the better bet. A rushing QB would help with that as well.

The more I think about it, the more I would like to see us run the 'Cerberus' offense this season!
