  1. Yes, no, hell no. You don't just acquire a Lombardi. If you could, I suspect the Saudi national oil company would own quite a few. The trade is about maximizing the chance to win one in the foreseeable future. We have a pretty loaded squad, with Pro bowlers in their prime. You need an elite QB to maximize that potential. Miss this window, and you have to wait a decade or more for the next chance. It's as simple as that.
  2. The Browns lost negotiation leverage with this verdict, but the 9ers are likely still keen to shed at least part of his salary. I'll gladly defer to @tiamat63 assessment of the value, or lack thereof. If there is a good chance Jimmy gets cut, waiting for that is the smarter move anyway I suppose. My proposed 3 RB formation it is then!
  3. Must admit I am surprised that DW and his team were willing to settle for this. Now I suppose we trade for Jimmy G. Can't imagine we're sticking with Brissett for 11 games. Or we just field one of our RBs as a QB, and they just hand the ball off to each other every down.
  4. Haven't printed anything in ages (is that still a thing?), but I have mentioned the SB a couple of times. My fandom of the Browns comes with a desire to win. This is opposed to @nickers, who relishes to be all doom and gloom, and then say: "I told you so" when we don't win. God forbid we actually do win it all. He will be cowering in the corner, murmuring: "this wasn't supposed to happen."
  5. While we agree on that, your previous comment referred to both Watson and the SB. The QB is the most impactful position to achieve the latter, so whether you like it or not, Watson is the best bet the Browns have had on winning it all. Possibly ever. Coming back to the team part, that is the very reason I am still positive about the DW trade. Browns roster is pretty stacked all around. Both lines, running backs, secondary, receivers. Weakest position group is probably linebackers, even though JOK is hugely talented. This is on purpose though, as the moneyballers who run the Browns don't rate LB's. Given the aforementioned strength of the squad, and elite talent like Garrett, Chubb and Ward being in their prime, if you are ever going to take a swing at a trade for a Top 5 QB, now is the time!
  6. Comparing the impact of a C on a team's performance to a QB? You cannot be serious.
  7. Don't care if it Tretter or someone else, but we have a hole to plug at C. Time to use some of that cap space!
  8. Thanks for the review. Couldn't agree more with the last sentence! A D-line that strikes fear in the hearts of opposing O-lines and QBs alike would be a treat.
  9. That play Emerson made, muscling the ball away from the receiver for the pick 6. If that's the level of intensity we are going to see from the Browns this season, we should be in for a good one!
  10. The appeal leading to a longer suspension is your assumption, and a questionable one at best.
  11. The policy to be upheld leaves room for a higher fine. It does not leave any room for a longer suspension. 6 games plus more money it will likely be, and the NFL looking even more foolish. If the imposed ruling were not to be in accordance with the policy, Watson's legal team has an open and shut case in court. They have the legal equivalent of a gun to the NFL's temple.
  12. In addition to what @hoortasaid, soliciting prostitution is actually a crime in Florida, whereas whatever DW is accused of is so far from a crime, Grand Juries won't even start a trail.
  13. Like Ballpeen already pointed out, the accusers were happy to continue the session, receive payment, and in some cases even asked for new appointments. Then they miraculously changed their minds when a lawyer close to the Texans' owner offers to sue to get them a payday. Who is being 'up to no good' here, really? The accusers look worse than the accusee.
  14. Good stuff. I largely agree with what you are saying. Let me give you a high level timeline of the DW acquisition here on the board. When the deal was first announced, the sentiment was split roughly 50-50. The ladies who love Baker got their Nickers in a twist (pun intended). The other half was looking forward to the on field improvement (the potential for which Tia presented with one of his trademark video reviews), while having some reservations about DW off-field. As time went on, the sentiment turned ever more negative. Indeed, it is my perception that this was caused by a relentless barrage of hysterically negative press. I see this as a sign of the times. Most of the media is no longer about presenting facts as they should, but rather opinions based on their morality. And everyone who disagrees is a fascist (oh, the irony), but I digress. Then the NYT publishes an article, and this place turns into The View Board, menstruation sub-forum. Which is astonishing, considering that the only newsworthy part of that article was that the Texans actively supported DW in his massage undertakings, and they were subsequently added to the civil suits. This probably helped speed up the settlements, and is likely to factor positively into the suspension. Only a few members kept their heads cool and tried to stick to the limited facts known, as opposed to moral judgements based on assumptions. Hope all this talk about morality comes to an end soon, and we start focussing on performance on field. I am looking forward to our play with DW under center, which is likely to be sooner than most expected. I still look favorable on the trade for the same reason.
  15. Getting anything for Baker would be a bonus. Just hope we minimize the amount of salary we keep on our books. Could use cap space to add FAs later in the season for a SB run.
  16. Hate to say I told you folks so, but that is exactly what @SdBacker80 and I have been doing. Snowed under by so many whiny drama-queen comments, it's no wonder these guys are pining for Baker LOL.
  17. The main difference with Kraft and DW is that in Kraft's case there was actual evidence (he was caught on tape). In DW's there are only accusations. If the policy says that ownership and management are to be held to a higher standard, the precedent is clear and DW doesn't get a single game.
  18. So you are ready to call a person despicable and spew hatred based on assumptions and zero facts. Okay then. Must be lonely up there on your 'moral high ground.' Every major company I have ever worked for made me sign an NDA, or had it incorporated in the employment contract. Does that mean they had ungodly intentions with me? Of course not. It is a standard practice for a wealthy organization or individual to protect themselves. Welcome to the real world, my fellow Brownie.
  19. I say it's posturing by the league at this point. Reports came out that negotiations between NFL and NFLPA broke down. NFL now going 'all in,' because they know NFLPA can appeal the suspension. If negotiations broke down, that appeal seems a certainty at this point. Unfortunately, it seems this situation will drag out.
  20. You use very resentful words when you describe him, which is your prerogative. Honest question though: why? He used the services of seemingly cheap and sleazy masseuses. Is that enough to be so resentful? Do you know any of them personally? Is it getting tugs and paying for them? It seems likely tugs were offered to him, which I believe makes it a crime committed by the masseuse under Texas law. If there was any evidence he solicited them, the criminal cases against him wouldn't have been thrown out. Historically, juries in the south are quite gung ho about convicting black men, so there must really be no shred of evidence. None of the actual facts known offend me, nor do they prevent my from wanting him on the team. If anything, I am seeing him more and more as a victim of a questionable legal system, and media witch hunt. My major gripe with him at this point is that he wasn't smart enough to do things 'right.' He should have gotten his massages from actual sports massage professionals. I am sure he would have been able to find one both qualified and attractive, if these were both requirements. And for tugs or equivalent I am sure Texas or neighboring states have their Heidi Fleiss who could offer those services discretely, and by women highly unlikely to get second thoughts about providing them.
  21. If DW is on the front page every day, you are reading a tabloid, not a newspaper. Suggest you pass it on to the Mrs. Having some uncertainty about the length of a suspension, and therewith who QB1 is going to be the first few games, is a price I am more than willing to pay for adding a top 5 QB in his prime to an already loaded roster. Clowney came back and accepted less pay than he could have made, just to play with DW. Only positive sounds coming from the locker room. Browns are preparing to win. It seems that is unsettling to some.
  22. Browns RB Dā€™Ernest Johnson Opened Door for Deal Hunt dealt with both calf and ankle injuries last year, forcing him to miss nine games. But the former NFL rushing leader has huge upside when healthy, with more than 5,150 yards from scrimmage and 44 touchdowns to his name over a five-year NFL career. Hunt comes with a $6.25 million cap hit this season and the Browns would suffer no dead cap money if they parted ways with him. While talented, Hunt is in the final year of his deal and may not be someone Cleveland can keep around next season when cap space will be harder to come by. Thereā€™s also the fact that the Browns have the depth to deal with Hunt not being on the roster thanks to Dā€™Ernest Johnson returning. Johnson had refused to sign his unrestricted free agent tender with the Browns but ended up agreeing to a deal worth the same value of $2.43 million, per ESPNā€™s Adam Schefter. However, the difference is his guaranteed money, which comes in at $900,000.Johnson capitalized on his opportunities when his number was called upon last season, notching 534 yards on 100 carries with three touchdowns. He also collected 19 receptions for 137 yards. Browns Still Hoping OT Jack Conklin Good for Training Camp Would love this trade. Chubb is our clear No 1. Johnson and Ford can duke it out for 2 and 3. Shipping hunt for OL depth and draft capital is great value.
