As with anything, this story has more nuance than most people ever want to touch on.

    1. There are quite a few members of the 1964 Browns who 100% believe they would not have won the NFL Championship if Paul Brown was still head coach.

    2. Interesting fact: Blanton Collier's win % as the Browns head coach was identical to Paul Brown's win % with the Browns in the NFL.

    3. But, yes, it is true that once Collier retired, one could say that was the true end of the "Paul Brown Era" of Browns history. Collier was the right hand man of Brown, and with him retiring, this is when I believe the Browns really became Art Modell's team in totality. The Browns from that point to the day they left became a mediocre also-ran. That's Modell's legacy.

Dutch, it is hard for any of us to know if The game had passed Paul Brown up. PB is an emotional topic for we Browns fans, although most unter 40 couldn't give a shit.

One of the reasons we long-timers hate Steeler fans is that none of them know Jack shit about their team before the Noll Era team.

Unfortunately, that has also become the case.with Browns fans except our time benchmark is 1999.

I hate what this team has become. Hell, I hate the NFL. But the masochism continues.

Yeah Tom, we've been down this road a million times. It warms the cockles of my heart that Modell eventually had to sell the team to Biscotti, because his cash flow wasn't enough to cover the interest on his loans. Oh he was massively successful as an entrepreneur. Buying the Browns in 1961 in what would be $2.5 million in todays dollars. Couldn't leave well enough alone, continually rolling over and refinancing his debt until it caught up with him.

Brown would still be at the top of the heap in the record books if he had gone the Jerry Rice route and played until he couldn't anymore... But back then NFL players were working for relative peanuts. His 1964 $100,000 salary wouldn't even be worth $1 million today. And Modell was an ass Jim wasn't going to show for training camp, and was over in LA working on a move. Modell was dumb enough to try and make Jim play by his rules.

Well, we agree, Modell caused the demise of a lot of good things.

Sadly, we went from a control freak, to two successive village idiots.

My dad warned me not to get atttached to the Browns. He was a die hard, going all the way back to the AAFC days. He witnessed the Browns-Rams, Browns-Lions, & Browns NYGiants championship games/playoff games in person.

He always sided with Paul Brown on everything. He liked Jim Brown the player, but it does sound like Modell listened to Brown, and fired Paul Brown for Collier. In his mind (my dad's), the Cleveland Browns died when Modell bought the team (1963).

Sadly, the stats don't lie. Yes, the Browns should have been able to dig out of this present mess (1999-present) a lot sooner, but competent ownership has basically ecaped Cleveland. Haslam tries but he can't help meddling.

Check out the attachment from 1972's book, by Jack Clary, Cleveland Browns, Great Teams Great Years.

Modell took perhaps the greatest franchise in football and ran it into the ground.

Present Browns record as of yesterday, 555-533-14

I have read this, and your Dad and mine had the same belief about Modell. I always felt that Brown got Paul fired.

As a serial entrepreneur, I can tell you first hand that I have witnessed great idea turned to shit because an investor thought they knew more than the inventor.

Modell was one of those type of assholes. He had the best, but it hurt his ego to just sit back and be successful.

I never realize what a miserable cocksucker he was until the move.

  4. Jim Brown and Ernie Davis both died on May 18. Eerie weird, choose your adjective.

Brown was not happy, I believe he got Art to fire PB.

Did PB really envision 2 guys like this in the same backfield, or would PB have traded Jim once Davis panned out?

Trading Bobby Mitchell without consulting Art was a fucktard thing to do.

Would Davis have been better than Jim?

Would JB dominate today? would he play injury free? with nutrition and training he would likely play same.speed at 245 -250.

How the fuck does a city and an owner lose the Browns?

  5. Rules have changed to Make the game more exciting. The modern game is ultra high speed with ultra fast collisions. Compared to 1960 or 1970 I would bet dollars to donuts that injuries are at an all time high.

Time to add another 6 -10 players to the roster size?

Or those that don't understand why Flacco isn't activated yet, you DO NOT want Joe Flacco starting ANY regular season games! Unless the Browns move on from PJ Walker and bring in someone else, our QB's are DTR, PJ Walker, Flacco, and Harrison Bryant in an emergency. DTR getting hurt is like breaking a mirror kind of bad luck. I know they may have to elevate Flacco to the roster but it's something you shouldn't want. Ideally, the Browns needs the defense to do their thing DTR/Walker to get as many wins as possible and Flacco should only see the field in the post-season. Joe Flacco will not make it to the end of the season behind that line.

If both DTR and Flacco go down before the playoffs, we are (like the guy said in the movie American Sniper) "fucked like a football bat"

I don't want to see Flacco at all. Fuck him.

  7. If I am the HC, I am opening every game sending 4 deep for hail mary passes. Every down.

    1) Forces Prevent D

2)Stops the blitz and QB pressure.

    3) With 1:21 left who cares if the QB scrambles. With 56 minutes left, it is a huge way to get easy yards.

    4) Big open filed for the RB

    5) OL Qb, and RBs don't get hurt.

Play 2inut3 football with 56 minutes left. Gobble up easy yards.

Unfortunately, this is where we are as a society. There can be a piece of videographic evidence that tells the truth but people will bend and shape reality to their liking. I been arguing with people about whether the hit on DTR was clean or not, the video speaks for itself. You can see DTR's helmet clearly move as he is contacted by the defender and his chin strap moving up into his mouth from the defenders helmet, probably what caused his bloody lip. It's in the rule book "forcible contact to the head/neck area" But there are always people out there that just deny everything if it's something they don't like. I bet there's even people on here that will defend that hit. I just wanna know why year in and year out our opponents rough up our players like this and nothing ever gets done about it. I saw Fitzpatrick didn't play in our game against the Steelers, I bet everyone's knees were safe that day😏

It is the shoulder that hit his jaw. With the tackler not pointing his helmet, that is a tough case to make.....however, if it was Mahomo, then yes, a flag.would have been thrown.

Flacco won’t hold the ball like Walker or DTR

I don't disagree, but here is what confuses me. If Flacco and several other accomplished vets are willing to step in and play now.

With all dure respect to the two alphabet kids, with some proven vets sitting out with no job, why do you not tie one of them up at the beginning of the season?

Am I to understand that management really felt solid with these two kids as backups?

Surely the inference here is that these vets wouldn't accept a back up role in week 1 preseason, but in week 12 they prefer a tempoary position as starter?

    What am I missing here?

I am fine with management choosing 2 young kids and not a vet. However, abandoning these 2 choices so quickly to sign Flacco would seem to indicate that management fucked up.

This is the kind of shit that seems to be S O P with the Browns.

It is frustrating to see our team so close, but as always, not rising to the top because of shit that could've and should've been nailed down.

  10. The problems remain consistent. The Browns are just not disciplined..You just don't know what to expect out of these guys.

You can't be en pointe all the time, but it is really frustrating to lose games when you play well enough, but fall short on execution.

Does Flacco help the offensive execution? I honestly think Brissett would have us at 9-2 after today.

    This is our Sunday life.

But Tom....  He had a MRI when he screwed up his shoulder the first time. Do you want to believe they

    1) Either missed the fracture, (damn unlikely) or

    2) Told him go out there and play with a displaced glenoid fracture?

Nope, I say new injury..  :(

I don't buy it. I think they tried to do the same thing they did with Mayfield

I went to Seattle and had sideline rickets WITH the team.. They don't like walker  he sucks and they grumble about it while he's on field. . Talk about lockerroom issues

The browns need to call fitzmagic  he SAID he would play for them in national TV.

    If not........its over

Yep. Berry & DePodesta are going to feel the heat & it might trickle down to Stefanski.

I think we like PJ's heart.

Please figure out a way to win Sunday. Keep the happiness alive for one more week.

The Steelers are not a very good team. They really aren't. What they are however is managed and coached to a much higher level.

Schwatzer's defense is good, but still, he has Marty in him. Sorry, but he was passive against Geno Smith. They treated him as if he was Tom Brady.

Getting after Lamar forced him to rely on his accuracy and his brain, neither of which are stellar.

Kenny Pinkcunt is not a good QB. Like West Side Steve, or Costa, if you give him all day to pass, he will.

If The D flushes the pussy ass analytics down the toilet and simply realizes that pressuring mediocre QB will earn victories, then the Brown will smother the Steelers. if the Browns D is laying back, then they lose. It doesn't matter what our QB does, if Pinkcunt has time to throw, we lose.
