  1. Bottom line....we are much worse this season than last season. The only change other than so called "improvements to the defense".....is Mayfield. I'm not saying he was great, but in his 4 seasons, he was a hell of a lot better than he looks now. I chalk it up to the Browns ruining another qb.  Yes...if they would have drafted Josh Allen, Mahomes or Lamar Jackson we would still be in the same boat. Just my opinion.

Too early to count us out. My.bullet points.

*Brissett has been workable and we are close. Like him or not, Watson surely will give us enough boost that we will be tougher to beat.

I hate the continued lack of discipline, but as bad as we are, teams have needed luck to beat us.

    Go Browns

First and foremost my opinion is that a healthy Baker Mayfield could take the team all the way. The team has not been firing on all eight or 12 cylinders depending on what size engine you assign them. Whether or not they are now remains to be seen.

    I'll stick to your question:

With no Super Bowl victory it is absolutely not worth the stink that it's brought on the Cleveland Browns or the city. And even with a Super Bowl victory the stink remains.

    Exactly...

I'm not from Cleveland, and I'm not a Browns fan.  I'm glad I don't have to ask myself this question because I am not sure I know the answer.

    But.....Is this all worth it?

It's probably better asked as a three part question because the whole point of aquiring Watson is to pursue a Lombardi so then -----

Is it worth if the Browns don't win a Lombardi?

Is it worth it ONLY if the Browns win a Lombardi?

Is it NOT worth it even if they DO win a Lombardi?

Definitely not worth it...superbowl or not. I could have dealt with going after Russel Wilson, Garrapalo, or anyone else. Watson is a big mistake. He hasn't played in 2 years, and I. personally would have never considered him an elite qb. If I'm wrong and the Browns go on to win the next 3 superbowls, I'll admit I was wrong. But....even that won't reverse the negativity caused by this fiasco. Red right 88...the drive....the fumble...and now....the trade.

  5. Yeah...I'm also a fan of Mayfield's....so what? He's the first Cleveland qb since '99 to make me think we had a chance to win any game. So...the genius, Andrew Berry and Haslam put their pea brains together, and think Watson is the quickest way to get to the Superbowl?? Personally, I think he's the most overrated qb in the NFL. Then...they trade away all their first round picks for the next 3 years, and pay him $230 million GUARANTEED?? Even without all his shady massage encounters, that took a special kind of stupidity. Players come and go, so trading Baker was not a deal breaker for me. I guess the worst thing is dragging the Cleveland Browns name through the mud, and returning the franchise to the comfortable place as the laughing stock of the NFL...again. So yeah...I'm rooting for the Panthers and Mayfield on September 11th. Haslam has done more to ruin this team than any other owner...including Modell. If it was up to me, Haslam would be removed as the owner of the franchise and banned from ever owning another NFL team.

  6. I really had no problem with moving on from Mayfield, even though I thought it was a little premature. There must have been something to the rumors about him and Stefanski not seeing eye to eye. The problem I have with this mess is Deshaun Watson...well, more like Jimmy Haslam. I've always felt that Watson was overrated. I know about his stats in 2020, but his team only won 4 games. I have to think a lot of those numbers came in garbage time. For Haslam to sign this guy to that huge contract, knowing that this was coming, is about the dumbest move since Modell moved the team. I would be fine if it was Russell Wilson, or Garropolo, or anybody else. So...yes, I'm still a fan of Baker Mayfield...even though there were several time last season, that I was screaming for Stefanski to bench him. I can only hope that this backfires on Haslam, to the point where he decides to sell the team. He's the reason that the Browns continue to be the joke of all sports.

Umm...just to be clear...Mayfield was the starting QB, and a #1 overall pick to boot.  If the MEDICAL TEAM says he's cleared to play...and the player says he's ok to play...and he practices during the week...and you, as the HC, sit him and play the backup...then....what are you gonna give as a reason?   The backup is the better QB?  Remember, you can't say that it's because he's hurt...because he's been medically cleared to play.

If you want clarity...a back up qb is in place to fill in for the starting qb if he can't play due to injury or some other valid reason. I could argue that Mayfield should have been removed from the active roster immediately after the shoulder injury. Every NFL player who is worth anything will deny the severity of his injury, so he isn't benched. No matter how anti - Mayfield you are, unless you're blind, you could see that he was affected by the injury. I refuse to believe that Stefanski was the only one involved in making the decision to continue to play Mayfield, knowing that his play was impaired. He may have been cleared by the medical staff to the extent that he couldn't further damage his shoulder, if he played...probably because they already knew that it would require surgery and extensive rehab, so he would be lost for the season. No...the back up qb was not a better qb, but any real HC would have been able to see that Mayfield struggled beyond the 2nd quarter. He didn't just go from being one of the most accurate deep ball passers, to not being able to get the ball to an open receiver for no reason. I'm not referring to OBJ, here. He, obviously had an agenda to get out of Cleveland before he got here. As I stated before...I would love to see a video of plays that Mayfield delivered to OBJ, in his hands, and were dropped. There were many more of those that I remember, than bad throws to him by Mayfield.

I started to question Stefanski’s play calling during the second Steelers game last year.

He decided to get our hobbled QB sacked 9 times during the game, while abandoning the running game….against the worst run defense in the NFL.

    Try to circle that square.

Yes...there are a lot of things that wreak of Stefanski sabotaging Mayfield last season....especially not pulling him out with the shoulder injury. What HC let's the qb decide if he can play with a serious injury? Even so, I'm not ready to fire him yet. I still believe he can be a very good HC. I'm weary of trying to remember who our HC is every season.

I just put it down (again) a few minutes ago.  I've been trying to decide which pickups to put in.  Seymour Duncan Seth Lover, Pearly Gates, '59's, Antiquities I'd love but they don't come in 4 wire.  But every time I play it I'm thinking to myself, WTH is wrong with 'these' pickups?  And the answer is, Nothing.  They sound freakin' great (to my ear anyhow).

  10. Why don't these morons who are reporting how Mayfield's teammates disliked him, provide some names ore quotes?...because it's B.S., that's why... OBJ??....who gives a crap about that whiney ass prima dona? He never wanted to come here, and tried every angle to get out. He sure as Hell was no top notch receiver here. I could make a video of easy throws that he just dropped that would be longer than the one he produced. Why would Mayfield continue to throw him the ball, when he drops everything he touches?

Let's not overthink this stuff.  We're all here because we're not all there...  That's not nearly as bad as it sounds.  In fact, it takes a special breed of character and loyalty that is admirable considering how often those traits get battle-tested over the years.

Most recently, the Browns have taken a gigantic risk that could bring an enormous reward for doing so.  Or, it could end up recruiting more critics and frustrated fans here.  I will confess to being a bigtime Baker hopeful pre and post draft (with Sam Darnold as my 1B option).  Baker started for our 11-5 team that won a playoff game AT Pittsburgh with 48 points on the scoreboard as recently as January of 2021.  Now they're both on the same team, which has some talent he can be successful with inclusive of the top LT in the draft, DJ Moore, and Christian McCaffrey. The year before that I wanted us to draft DeShaun Watson, who last played in 2020 - leading Houston to a 4-12 season.  That said, he had killer good passing numbers in spite of that finishing with the #2 passer rating in the NFL (only behind Aaron Rodgers).  I'm one that did not like the way our Owner and FO went about upgrading our talent at QB within 1 year of exercising the previous QB's 5th year option.  Watson has already achieved elite numbers so it IS an upgrade we really need here. That said, we're now in the midst of tug-of-wars about which QB has more baggage as we await how long our new QB will be suspended.

I was raised in Western NY about 4 hours east of Cleveland where there was 4-5 different Browns Backers clubs when I moved to TN in 2006.  Otto Graham played Pro Basketball for the Rochester Royals the year they won the Championship while we all know Jim Brown and Ernie Davis played college ball at Syracuse.  If that wasn't enough, the 1st 10 years the Cleveland Browns existed - they made the Championship Games every year winning 7 of those (the last 6 games were in the NFL where they won 3 in that span). The Browns won their last Championship in 1964 while your buddy Flugel was still shitting diapers; and giving his dad the "I hope it stinks" look. As time went on, my dad started putting up large antenna's on the house that enabled us to watch games that weren't locally televised.   It also progressed to my dad's superstition making me and my brother change what chairs we were sitting in to change the bad luck on the TV.   It had a Silver Linings Playbook vibe to it - although the only one that did any gambling was my brother. Made dad usually took us to 1 home game per year in Cleveland; and if they ever came to Buffalo - we'd be there to watch them as well.

Ultimately, we reached the 80s which became the decade in the Superbowl era the Browns made the playoffs most frequently.  They accomplished such a feat with my 2 favorite QBs as a Cleveland fan:  Brian Sipe and Bernie Kosar.  I would have loved to watch Otto Graham lead the Browns to the Championship Games in all 10 years of his Pro Football career in Cleveland.  I also would have loved to watch Jim Brown play.  One of the most exciting RBs I've been able to watch was Greg Pruitt (my avatar), who could score from anywhere on the field.  Injuries prevented him from having a long career.  I've always enjoyed the RB/FB tradition in Cleveland with guys like Marion Motley, Jim Brown, Bobby Mitchell, Leroy Kelly, Greg Pruitt, Mike Pruitt, Kevin Mack, Earnest Byner, Leroy Hoard, Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, etc...  While 13th round pick Brian Sipe was the only QB the Browns drafted that earned an NFL MVP honor in the Superbowl era - Bernie Kosar was the only 1st round QB the Browns drafted (albeit the Supplemental Draft) that took us to the AFC Championship Games.  I'm not sure Watson can ever make me feel like I felt about Sipe and Kosar; but you never now what we will learn in the future that may change/challenge that thought.

So many fond memories in my family following this tradition.  Way too many to ever stop me from following the Cleveland Browns.  It's fun to join everyone in here and bust balls when necessary.  Hang in there because you've already been battle tested.  Just remember one last time - We're all here because we're not all there!

In 1964, I was listening to the Championship game on my 3 transistor pocket radio, that required a small earphone. I've been through all the crap.....Bellichik... the team leaving.... losing season after losing season...But this fiasco has pushed me beyond my limits. It's not so much the Mayfield thing. It's more the Watson thing. I find myself hoping he's suspended for the season, then hoping he sucks in 2023. I'm not rooting for him. Not now, not ever. Personally, I hope Haslam has to pay him every penny, and that he never plays a down for the Browns. Watson wanted no part of the Browns...until they offered him $230 million, guaranteed. Yes...there were several other teams interested in him, but not at that price, and not for 3 first round picks. No matter what you Watson lovers say....he is not a top 5 qb. He had outstanding stats for 2020, with only winning 4 games. Statistics are for losers. Just when the Cleveland Browns were starting to gain a little respect around the NFL, dumbass Haslam, with one stupid decision, puts us right back as the laughing stock of all sports franchises.

Our best receiver got off the team because of all of the times he was wide open and Baker never threw him the ball.

I get it.  You like Baker.  And you don't like Watson.   But the organization obviously saw Baker they way I did (and others), and not the way you do (and others).

I saw a QB that misses receivers high when throwing over the middle, and makes selfish decisions with the ball instead of taking what is given.

OBJ was our best receiver??....that's a joke! I saw him drop more easy passes than Braylon Edwards. I'm glad he's gone....overrated prima dona....

  13. Sorry....unintentional interruption. As I was saying....Josh Allen, like Testeverde, looked great throwing the ball and had a nice looking deep ball. They were both inaccurate, and threw interceptions. Say what you want about Testeverde....that's your opinion. The argument has been made by others that he should be in the HOF.

  14. This is not a post to compare stats. Watson obviously holds the edge in that area. I wasn't thrilled about Mayfield being our #1 draft choice in 2018....the guy I wanted is playing in Buffalo. He reminded me a lot of Vinnie Testeverde, who was also an inaccurate passer until he was coached properly. But....call me crazy, but there has been no point in time, that I have ever wished that Watson was the Browns' qb. I've always felt that he was one of the league's most over rated qb's. Now, you have the moron owner of the team, who has more money than brains, giving this guy $230 million...guaranteed, no less...to play here. It's a ridiculous joke even without all the sexual misconduct accusations, to give up 3 first round draft picks for Watson. Mayfield surprised me when he got on the field. He has a stronger arm than most of the top qb's, and early on, was very accurate. With the injury and lack of confidence that was obvious last season, he struggled. Haslam has proven, once again, that the Cleveland Browns are by far, the most dysfunctional professional sports team on the planet. This latest fiasco is not going to end well. I can only dream that with all this crap, that somehow Haslam comes to his senses and sells the team. I've been a fan sine the early '60's, and remember this franchise being one of the most winning and respected. I know we are all supposed to hate Art Modell, but....I wish we had an owner like him, now. I really have no loyalty to Mayfield...I certainly was disappointed with him as much as anybody, last season. But...I would much rather be going into this season with a healthy Baker, than this crap that we're dealing with now.

I see now...Brisset is gonna play better than Baker and people are going to blame it on Baker's injuries when Baker himself is to blame. Which is fine...as ong is he holds it down till Watson comes in

From what I've seen from both qb's, your boy Brisset is going to have improve a hell of a lot to play better than Mayfield...even at his worst.

Let's pause.....in 4 years Baker attacked medical staff, local journalists, national talking heads, former coach, other player's about their contracts.....please name the QB in 4 years who did all that? Why you think no one wants to pay the 18 mill while elite QBs out here getting 40? His mouth doesn't out weigh his talent...everything needs to be perfect around him to thrive-how often does that happen?.. Carolina reps stated they weren't interested in Mayfield....dude responds with we're not interested in them either. That's not Halslam, FO or fans fault....it's Baker

Mayfield has always had an attitude to the point of being obnoxious and embarrassing. If you decided to move on, why not bench him last season, when he's injured? That would have been a perfect opportunity to start the process. They're stuck for the $19 million, anyway. They could have played Keenum...maybe signed a free agent backup...Instead they decide to make fools of themselves...again, ....and pay DW $230 million, completely guaranteed, no less, knowing that he has all these accusations, and most likely will not play for at least 8 games in 2002. Is this their plan to gain respect and a winning tradition back? Do you younger guys even realize what a great franchise this once was? When I was growing up, in the 50;s and 60's, the Browns were among the winningest teams. I've dealt with all the different owners and coaches over the past 60 years...I've dealt with all the bad players and poor decisions, but I've never seen an owner like Haslam, who seems to have one goal. That's to drag the once proud name of the Cleveland Browns through the mud over and over. Can he really be this dumb? He's the owner of a major corporation...a billionaire, no less. How is he incapable of building a winning team with respectability? This is a guy who has let a homeless man decide who to pick in the draft. The other owners must be having a field day laughing at this guy. I'll just say this about Mayfield....I've defended him many times, when I thought he was being treated unfairly. But...he has alienated pretty much everybody who once rooted for him. Him may have ruined his young career with his stupid actions and comments. When a team would rather have Carson Wentz over Mayfield, that pretty much tells the story. So...don't get the idea that there is no limit to my loyalty for Baker. I'm just completely disgusted with how this organization continues to screw up everything they touch. The drama never ends.

All that is fine and dandy; but I saw this team win 11 games and rathouse Pittsburgh 48-37 in the playoffs to see what is possible.  That already separates him from Andy Dalton.   One of our losses was a 47-42 loss on Thursday Night Football only because Baltimore got the ball last. Anyone call out the defense that night while the offense put 6 TDs (no FGs) on the board?  One of the best games of that year according to the announcers of it.  Anyone show film of Baker that night?  Of course not.  Whether you want to admit this or not, in the KC playoff game (at KC) - Baker hit Higgins with a pass that should have been the GW score late in the 4th qtr.  Guess who fumbled 3 inches in front of the goal line for a touchback?  Higgins.    We can pretend that never happened but a more talented WR secures that football or gets to the goal line quicker.  That TD would have put the Browns in the AFC Championship with the QB I keep reading just can't win.  You've seen him do it.

Shifting gears to now.  I was thinking that giving Baker his final year of the contract, keeping our next 3 1st round picks and having an opportunity to draft one of these QBs (Pickett, Corral, Strong, Willis) at #13 overall wouldn't have us worrying about the length of a suspension.  Roger won't be afraid to make an example of Watson; because it sure looks like he's excited about doing his own investigation.  The last time he investigated what a dirt bag Daniel Snyder - the only person that got punished was Jon Gruden (from another organization).  Stay tuned?  We have no choice.

Yep....exactly right. The media, with the help of Browns have made Mayfield look like a draft bust. I didn't care for his attitude, but I've seen worse. These people point out the OBJ fiasco...how Baker couldn't get the ball to him. That's a load of crap. The guy wanted out before he ever got here. He couldn't run a correct route to save his life. He was a free lancer that did not fit this offense. Why don't they have a video of all the balls that were in his hands, that he dropped? Baker brought excitement back...expectations of winning in any game. I can't believe how easily they turn on a qb who was the best we've had since '99. I'm with you...I'm out. I know this whole Deshaun Watson thing is going to blow up in Haslam's face. Berry will be the scapegoat...the Browns and Cleveland will be the joke of the NFL...as usual. The only good that can come from this, is if Haslam is somehow decides to sell the team after all the humiliation. I can't even begin to imagine a worse owner.
