Believe it or not Syd, he went to Ohio University on a football scholarship and transferred to Youngstown State University after his sophomore season. The 6'1" O'Neill played DL.  In 1969 he was drafted by Pittsburgh and cut during training camp.  That's a little tidbit about the guy before he became an actor.
