  1. Not sure we should be taking legislative advice from a comedian but reasonable gun legislation is long overdue. Problem is the legislation won’t be reasonable and won’t stand a chance at passing.

I can’t disagree with your take on this matter, but to quote Barry “elections have consequences”.

I can only speculate why the GOP ran the Coney-Barrett nomination through the Senate (besides they had the votes to do it).

One guess is the GOP wasn’t thrilled with the way the Dems handled the Brett Kavanuagh nomination.

I  think we can agree Coney-Barrett was put through to change the dynamic of the Court to more what us viewed as more conservative.

There was this little unwritten rule in the Senate called “The Biden Rule” (remember him?) that they would not vote on a lame duck President’s SC nominee. The Dems brought this into play during the Bush Administration but completely forgot about it in Obammy’s last few months.

The issue here is don’t vote for Obama’s nominee but vote for Trump’s.  Now the argument will be made that Trump could’ve won a second term but Obama couldn’t.  That argument is only made for disagreement purposes as we all know why it played out the way it did.

Come now.   If a political party can't find enough dirt it's fairly simple operation to make some up. Especially if you have a psychologically imbalanced women  to make outlandish and unprovable claims.

I figure they could have branded Garland as a fire breathing liberal and had done with. Like you did from the other side with Barrett.  Only then the republicans had the votes so in essence your original statement is correct.

Ok. I agree the Republican Caucus is stupid or they believe it doesn’t matter what position they take on any given day as their supporters will support them regardless

No I don’t believe for one second it’s about fairness, it’s about getting “your people” in positions of power as it always is.

Garland has a pretty good resume and not sure if they could dig up enough dirt.  So instead of potentially voting down a qualified candidate without real cause they took the path of least resistance.

Anybody support this? Not that I would be surprised but…

It won’t pass but I have no issue with it.  I’d prefer term limits for the justices but believe that if the party in power is able to pass legislation, they have every right to.  It is then incumbent on the people to vote accordingly.  It’s so much easier to allow the party in power to push their agenda, then it is to get any of them to agree or compromise.

That was very evident when the same individuals who wouldn’t confirm Garland voted to confirm Coney-Barrett.

We hardly have any troops there now.  So this is hardly big news.

The U.S. completed its reduction of forces to 2,500 troops in January 2021. This was the lowest number of American soldiers in Afghanistan since 2001.

I agree that troop levels are very low but still feel like it is a good move.  At some point we need to allow the Afghans to figure this out.  We’ve spent far too much on this already. I feel bad for some of the Afghan people who will suffer from our lack of presence but we need to focus on this country for a little while.

    * As in democrats now calling for an end to negativity.

No I am.  Too many people seem to only be happy when they are complaining.  And that goes for all walks of life.  There is certainly a time and place for it but when a decision occurs that aligns with your ideology, let that be enough.  If reasonable people don’t find common ground and acknowledge when it occurs, we are worse off as a nation.

And it's been the right thing to do for the last 20 years. Of course the democrats pissed and moaned about trump's plan to get us out of that shit hole. Hypocrites.

    WSS

Can we just be happy the right decision is being made?  The negativity could use a bit of a rest.

My only concern is having to bring troops back as we had to when Obama removed them from Iraq.

Lots of leeway especially with the  Teamsters.  I was a janitor at consolidated freightways a Union shop The guys that loaded and unloaded the trucks were Union. I doubt any had advanced degrees. Other guys might well have been skilled tradesmen.   Union didn't particularly differentiate.

Fair enough. But he lied. They lied. and a lot of folks are going to be hurt by it. I'm shocked that hoorta/woody/Tex voted for this garbage.,

Hurt is a very relative term.  And aren’t we used to Presidents lying at this point? Bush said “no new taxes” Clinton didn’t have sexual relations with that woman, Iraq had zero to do with 9/11, Healthcare didn’t become affordable and the last guy lied more than he told the truth.

That one is pretty easy to understand. Seems like Castro has been a natural ally of the Democrat party and most of the Cubans in Florida were persecuted by him. Economic  "refugees" don't  have any shared ideology.

    WSS

Not sure how you are making the leap that Castro and the Democrats are allies.  The Democrats have been discussing lifting embargo and travel restrictions which the Cuban community are against.

Are the Republicans allies with Kim Jong-un
