The hospital culinary wasteland continues.  (I miss my previous places, cooked to order good food.   :()

Two days ago I had Salisbury steak, scalloped potatoes, corn......I got a hamburger covered with brown goo, the cheapest box mix potatoes you can imagine and blah corn.   I know that the guys in the Youngstown jail are eating better than me.

Last night my wife felt bad and brought me lasagne in a good sausage and meat sauce.

Tonight GAMEDAY NIGHT still TBD.    SO what's on your menu for the Pittsburgh at CLEVELAND game?

Hospital food is AWFUL because it's "institutional food", but back in the 1980's  I worked at Warren General Hospital, a small Osteopathic Hospital & the food was homemade (NOT institutional), and some of the best food I have ever tasted. One little lady made the best rhubarb pie I have ever had. Sadly, Warren General is no more, but my memories from there are cherished.

As far as tonight, too cold for us to tailgate, so my Brother & I will meet at Mission BBQ in Parma (Chopped Brisket marinated in Memphis Belle Sauce is the BOMB!) & take the Transit to the game.

  2. My 2 cents worth about Higgins vs Callaway?

Who can be TRUSTED (off field too) to line up right, run good patterns (be where he's supposed to be), adjust routes,  AND catch & hold onto the ball?

Need I even ASK this question? It's Higgins & it's not even close. I have held all season that NOT having Higgins was hurting this Team tremendously & also hurt production from Baker, OBJ, & Landry.

IMHO, Freddie may need to learn that the "trust factor" is more important than pure athleticism, speed, & the dreaded "potential".

I don't care what the beef was, he is now available & the Browns are better because of it. PLAY HIGGINS DAMNIT!!!

    CONGRATS !

Yep! I'm a happy OLD GEEZER who just had a physical & is STILL un-medicated, with no diet restrictions. My Bride tells folks that my body is preserved with salt & alcohol...I tell ya, it's fresh ground sea salt & peppercorns, chased with Old Leghumper & Labatt's Blue....topped off with plenty of laughter!!

Many have commented on Mayfield's "regression" this year.  It's a little comical to talk about regression for a second-year QB, I think.

Last year he threw into double coverage a lot... a LOT... and got away with it.

This year he's trying to do the same - throw into double and triple coverage and rely on the strength of his arm to get the ball there... and is throwing more interceptions as a result because teams have better preparation for him.  He hasn't developed a finesse pass, yet.  Just throw it hard.  Understandable.  He's only in his second year.

So, now he's gun shy.  Doesn't want to throw interceptions, so he's late... or second guesses himself... or - worst of all - tries to throw even harder.  Classic sophomore season.

Did you REALLY expect anything else?  If so, then just review the overwhelming history of QBs who started playing right out of college... it's not pretty.  And it goes to show that this RARELY works.  You can't expect instant gratification.  It just doesn't work that way.  Never did.  Still doesn't, despite the expectations of teams and fans.

As an end note, I would point out that there is history on his side in the form of other hard-throwing QBs who struggled in their first few seasons until they learned the game.  John Elway comes to mind.  We can talk Mayfield in 2022 and we'll see what we're saying then.

You make some good points & I agree with most. Baker DID show outstanding anticipation & touch late last year & I think he's smart & determined enough that he will study "then" & learn from "now". There was a time when rookie QBs seldom saw the field for 2 or 3 years. We need some patience..Baker (IMHO) will be fine.

That is a cool message. You are an awesome fan. Congratulations on 50 years of marriage. I am sure she is a beautiful bride. When they turn this around lots of folks will jump on the bandwagon but for you it will be a much sweeter experience.

That's just it- a lot of folks jumped on the bandwagon preseason- I'm willing to bet they jumped off just as fast. The lifelong fans like Mike and many of the others here will support the team regardless of how bad it gets. We lived through Modell and 0-16, it has to get better eventually.

Thanks & you guys get it! There are still quite a few lifelong Browns' Fans on this board & I applaud them. To those of you who haven't yet experienced a Browns' Championship (now Super Bowl), I can't wait to see and share your unbridled joy when it happens......and it WILL!!

    Thanks to all who responded.

I have been noticing that this year.   During replays sometimes you can see that his man was open, he sees but hesitates, then throws it too late and it's defended or is delivered behind the receiver because he can't lead him into the defender who is NOW 'in play' whereas he wouldn't have been if he threw it on time.  It's like, THIS YEAR, the game is just a little too fast for him.

Yeah, his touch is not there because he's not throwing with anticipation as he did so well last year & he's throwing it so hard (my guess) because he KNOWS he's late with the throw. It's obvious he's not comfortable and, mechanically, he's not the same.....I've said it before & I'll say it again...I wouldn't be surprised to learn he's playing hurt. We'll see.

Yep-in the same boat without the long Browns history Mike. 73 in March and 50 years on Valentine's Day. Nice little exclusive club we're in huh?😁

    Bill,

We have a Granddaughter graduating HS in San Antonio in 2020 & we'll fly in for that. We need to try to get together while we're there. Keep in touch & congrats to you & your Bride as well!

    Mike

  10. I will be 73 years old the 30th of this month. I love my Browns...Always have & always will. In good times & bad, it's much like my marriage (50 years in 2020 with my Bride, Colleen). If you truly love something or someone, that love & loyalty (AND hopes, wishes, & dreams) never die.....no matter how bad things may currently seem. I'm in this for the long haul & we'll weather this current storm.

GO BROWNS!!......There's a light at the end of this tunnel & I think it looks BRIGHT!

    Mike

ps: I enjoyed the '64 Champs & I hope (and plan) to see you younger folks enjoy the next one!

Pretty sure we were playing touch football with that TE. Damn refs should have blown it dead three different times. It's the ref's fault.😁

THAT'S the problem. The refs don't understand that "a bump" equals a tackle. Damn refs. 🙄

I couldn't watch much of the game live, but I re-watched it afterwards. Did the announcers say this? Everything I heard from podcasts said nothing about Callaway outplaying anyone, but that his playing time was the result of Higgins being in the doghouse with Kitchens due publicly stating he was healthy and he didn't know why the coach didn't play him (this info contradicted Kitchens' statement and made us look us look foolish).

Even if the announcers DID say this, or even if our coaches provided this, I don't believe it. The ugly game was obviously 3 games ago, but Callaway didn't show much against Seattle or New England.

Maybe he has practiced well, but I don't trust him at all. I trust Rashard to be in the right place at the right time, and so does Baker. I don't mind Callaway having a package of plays, but he better not be playing more than Higgins because he is providing basically nothing.

I feel NOT having Higgins available was very damaging to our offense. Now that he's back, IMHO he MUST play a much larger part than Callaway. Higgins works very well with Baker & has his trust. He also CATCHES the damn ball when it comes his way.

It was incredibly an dumb question.  Were you happy with the results?  When the drive ended with a 4th and 16 play that the qb was sacked on.  Who in the hell would be happy with those results? It was a question that the obvious answer was no they weren't happy with the results. That would be like asking Matt Ryan if he was happy the way the 2nd half ended up vs the patriots in the super bowl.

You just got poked in the eye with a stick....Are you happy about it?

Even Grossi can't be that fuckin' stupid! He asked that question JUST to get a reaction from Baker. No one (with a brain) would expect an answer (oops, I stated "WITH a brain", didn't I?)  I hope I live long enough to see Baker (or anyone else) deck his ass!!

I googled "Tony Grossi" & saw THIS! (hilarious!) following is what I copied & pasted......

Grossi was born and raised in the Cleveland area, and upon graduating high school in 1976, attended Ohio University, where he graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. His father, Baker Mayfield, currently plays professional football in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns.
