  1. There's been banter on sports shows that keeping Baker around for the start of the season isn't the dumbest thing ever for Baker or the Browns. It's looking like Watson will get at least some suspended games to start he season. If Baker can start and go, say 4-2, it wouldn't be the worst thing for either party.

    Well said Bob!

FWIW, I think they can draft a good sized Safety to play that role if he's got good instincts).  A lot of people forget the Bears MLB/ILB Brian Urlacher was actually a Safety at New Mexico State so he had great instincts beating quick receivers to an inside hook zone.  I'm sure there's other kids today that can transition from Safety to Walker's role in this defense.  A guy like Polamalu (Polyneedsahaircut) in Pittsburgh would have excelled in a role like Walker's.

Well you just mentioned two hall of famers as likely "types" to fill that role as safety. Those guys don't grow on trees. Urlacher was famous for possessing deep speed for his size; basically unheard of. And Polamalu, he possessed sick, sick speed. All that said, and they'd have to find a guy like that in the 3rd round in the earliest? Don't see that happening.

  3. It went 100% how you would guess.

"We thoroughly investigated 'Deshaun the person' and are satisfied with everything we found." And on and on. He claims he didn't even know the details or amount of the contract before he made the decision to go to Cleveland. If you buy that one, I got some swampland to sell you.

I'd take him on a 1 year, $2-3 million dollar deal - guarantees only for each game he plays. We need a WR and he still has another year in him. He's be an immediate upgrade over DPJ and Schwartz.

Rashard Higgins quietly signed with the Carolina Panthers a few days ago, not that he was an impact player but we are thin at WR and AB gives a little more depth.

With his sexual assault history, he'll fit right in. Bring in all the dirty, dirty foul mother f----s.

Glad you mentioned that.  I thought it but forgot to put it in my earlier comment.  There's a little bunch of quite good QB's in the league.  It's not just one or two lucky teams.  But if you don't have one of the upper tier QB's, then consistent winning is just that much harder for ya.  The Titans are really quite good.  But they don't have the passing game to compete in shoot-outs.

Every so often a team will sneak away with a SuperBowl win....like Frank Ryan and the Browns did in '64.  (a stellar game by Ryan, stellar game by the D, and Jim Brown wound up getting his 100 yards)  But they were the underdog, and they weren't able to repeat.  Now when Otto Graham was the QB, that was a different story.  They were constantly competing for the Championship.  -  It's always been all about the QB.

If you don't have a top tier QB, then you must keep looking for one.  Draft one every year.  Even if it's a 6th round tall drink of water with a strong arm that plays at Bumfuck State.  Keep diggin'.

Agree on all points: If you don't have a top tier QB, you better get one if you plan on competing for a ring.  Dilfer and Brad Johnson are definitely  the exceptions, especially now-a-days even compared to when they won their rings. And agree, if you don't have one, keep diggin' every year until you find one.

well, look at some non-top 20 quarterbacks who have been to the superbowl.

    my opinion...

    Garrapalo

    Goff

    Foles

    Cam Newton

    Joe Flacco

    Colin Clapperdick

    Rex Grossman

    etc.

There aren't many Peyton Mannings, Tom Brady's in the NFL now or before.

No, not anymore, but there are, of course, Mahomes, Allens, Burrows, Herberts, Rogers and Staffords. That's four killers in the AFC alone. And that's assuming Mac Jones, Lamar Jackson aren't gonna be studs moving forward. Right now, we got the 3rd best QB in the North.

And on your list of non top 20 QBs to make a SB, you left off Dilfer and Brad Johnson.

  7. I have most morning sport shows on dvr series record (Good Morning Football, First Things First, Get Up, Skip and Shannon, Rome, Cowherd), and there's been a  lot of chatter on the Browns trying to upgrade the QB position the last few days, either from a significant upgrade (Rogers, Wilson) or a seemingly slight upgrade (Cousins, Jimmy G., Bridgewater, et al).

Opinions differ on how hard the team is looking to add a QB and to what level they are attempting. Most today said they are shooting for the stars but will settle for a "plan B" type like Cousins if need be.  So (and I know this is a rehash) where do you think things stand:

1.) It's still Baker's job to lose; team wants to see how he looks now that he'll be healthy.

2.) They've mostly moved to move on, they are tired of him and know the time is not to reach for a ring, ala LA Rams in 2021.

  8. I guess a buddy of his owns/runs a restaurant in LA, and Baker was in town and eating there. There was a disturbance from a patron and Baker paid for his dinner, out of his heart, figuring the guy had some issues. The guy working there who was buddies with Colin introduced himself to Baker, not knowing who it was and when Baker said who he was, the guy admitted he was bros with Colin and knew of their discourse. He said Baker was a perfect gentleman and a super nice guy.

I think that the police officer that he tried to bowl over stood his ground pretty well.  And he was all alone, on an island.  Perhaps he can play RT.  ??

The cop truly did hang in there; how many people would stand their ground when a 290 lb brother runs at them, full speed?
