  1. Stop sipping your tea for a second and remind us all why Watson didn't finish the season last year. There is THAT! Anything less than former 1st round QB Joe Flacco was, well.... PJ Walker right? What's next? Oh yeah, we should remember the play Watson got injured on and how it happened. Our blind side tackle Wills missed a block. Gee, why would one be more concerned about a QB controversy than a backup QB being capable of doing well enough to keep this team winning the next time Wills gets Watson hurt? You can worry about the feelings of a QB that has only started 12 games in 2 years. I want to be assured we're not overpaying a turnover machine to back up this type of QB. Fields only costs his new team a 6th round pick (and possibly a 4th if he plays 51% of the snaps). Any guy that carelessly throws 30 INTs in a season like Jameis did the year before Brady - keeps his team from making the playoffs. They HATED Jameis Winston in Tampa any time I listened to local sports radio here. 1 year later that non-playoff team won a Super Bowl. I don't remember ever posting that I wanted the Browns to bring an Ohio State QB here until a division rival landed a 1st round (11th overall) QB for a 6th round pick. I posted this a week or 2 before it happened. Considering our cap situation - yes, I'll go on record saying Fields would have been a much better bang for the buck than Crablegs. Anyone in here knows the Ohio State fanbase hasn't been in here every year wanting the Browns to draft Ohio State QBs. That was ridiculous by you. We didn't even do that for CJ Stroud or Fields the years they were drafted in the 1st round. Crablegs is gonna cost about about 6-7 million $ while Fields only costs Pittsburgh 3.2 million $ as a former 11th overall pick. If my gut here ends up being wrong about this I'll deserve any and all ball busting back. But if Wills misses another block on the blind side (which is more a question of when than if) and Watson gets planted on the right shoulder again - you're more interested in not having a QB controversy than winning. Got it! The NY Jets didn't have any QB controversy in 2023 right? I'm sure that made every guy on their defense extremely happy they had a losing record to show for their efforts.
  2. I sincerely hope I'm wrong about all of this Dutch. Since I just posted what I did - you know Winston will probably sign his contract on Monday anyway.
  3. People that compliment their own pov do that because they know no one else agrees with them. 😁 JJ is coming out now because he doesn't want his stock to drop on a team that is losing a ton of starters.
  4. Let me explain and if you still disagree - no worries. First, we read Jameis is still unsigned. That's a concern. Second, you have to understand the price of Justin Fields was only a 6th round pick. That's cheaper than the asking price of Crablegs. If memory serves me right, both Steve Young and Doug Williams were disappointments on their 1st NFL Team in Tampa. They won Super Bowls by huge margins on their 2nd NFL teams that put more talent around them. Pittsburgh was a playoff team last year so the step up from Chicago to Pittsburgh seems like a very similar scenario to what Steve Young and Doug Williams encountered. Our hated rival signed Fields to be a backup for their new starting QB (BOTH guys) making a lot less money apiece than Watson and Winston (apiece); so why would that kind asking price from Fields cause any problems in Cleveland if they pursued it? I'd be very surprised if anyone that's seen latest version of Winston thinks he looks better than the latest version of Fields. Just know, Watson is 1 blind side shot/hit where he gets planted on the glenoid away from game over/career over with Wills as the guy we're counting on to prevent such an occurrence. If that happens - all of the defensive players added mean as much as what the Jets defensive players meant to their chances of winning last year. We're FUBAR. The last time I remember a QB as overlooked as Fields was this off-season - it was Drew Brees coming of surgical repair/off season rehab of his throwing shoulder. Dr Andrews told inquiring teams he expected Drew's throwing shoulder to be stronger than it was pre-injury. New Orleans had the guts and got the glory. I'm not always right - we all know this. That said, Fields at those asking prices was the wrong guy to roster snob for Crablegs.
  5. Happy St Patty's Day! Theme of the day - don't drink and drive; but do drink and post. Flugel's theme for our draft - Safety 1st!
  6. Just out of curiosity, what do they know about Winston that the rest of the planet doesn't already know about him? Look what they could have had Fields for compared to this crap? Why go a million miles away to allow Pittsburgh to only give up a 6th round pick for a rising star at QB? Sorry, I gotta be honest here but this is Pittsburgh's FO beating our ass bad. Even worse, he's got a whole career ahead of him. Here's another Ohio State Buckeye the Browns SHOULD have been interested in. Now the Browns are going to have to reach on Bo Nix or Joe Milton for 1 of their 5 picks.
  7. 😆 Don't drink and drive; but do drink and post! Look out Nickers!
  8. So nobody like JJ McCarthy or Junior Colson left early for the draft? 😁 And you didn't lose the best DC your team has had in decades? And those are just guys off the top of my head. And yes Bama is the exception to the rule you chose to hide behind; but that doesn't change the volume of guys at Michigan that couldn't wait to leave that dump...
  9. Folks, you can archive this thread I started - you have the date of the 1st post. You can also see Cal getting very disrespectful to a very well respected guy on our football board Tour. Anyway, it's pretty clear what QB Cal only had eyes for - and it wasn't Baker! Understanding he never wants to be wrong - guess how long he rooted for Josh Allen to outperform Baker? All the way until Baker parted ways with Cleveland.... If anyone wants to find out how to archive old threads, drop me a pm...
  10. REGISTERED 8.6k Gender:Male Location:Bedrock Posted January 3, 2018 The QB Class of this draft - like many drafts, every prospect has areas of concern. I'm not in any hurry to crown 1 guy King just yet. It's okay to like more than 1 guy at this time. I began the year entrenched in Sam Darnold after his Rose Bowl performance vrs Penn State and a TD:INT ratio of 31:9 during his Freshman season. That showed me a guy that could win his Conference and beat the Big 10 Champion right after doing so. Unfortunately 2017 unfolded many imperfections I was unaware of like his inability to learn how to protect/secure the ball in the pocket via a volume of fumbles resembling that of Kizer. His TD:INT ratio also took a big hit dropping to 26:13 even though he led his team to a 2nd consecutive Pac 12 Title. It looked like he improved upon some of his carelessness for a while until he played Ohio State's NFL caliber pass rush he wanted no part of. He did make some beautiful throws and ran for some first downs; but most viewers remember his bad decisions and his fumbling against the closest NFL barometer he played. Too much Darnold Duck. My goofy take? He doesn't need to go back to the best program in the Pac 12 to solve his fumbling issue. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Hue did a very good job with his inexperienced QB at protecting the football... So, is he the right guy for our current situation (inclusive of my biggest disappointment Hue)? I really don't know; but I encourage anyone to put the tape of him against Penn State from a year ago. My football wood factor went from balsa to sequoia. If he does come out - I know what he's capable of if we ever get better at this drafting thing... Baker Mayfield. Fun to watch the last 2-3 years. He beat Ohio State's team in Columbus, which isn't easy. The TD:INT ratio of 41:5 heading into the BCS game was about as good of a season as he can have. A big question he'll have to answer just like other guys with similar frames had to such as: Drew Brees, Warren Moon, Joe Theisman, and even Jeff Garcia had to answer - is how soon can he get it if ever? None of those guys were immediate before frequent participation in NFL post seasons and Pro Bowls. SD drafted a QB first overall the off season prior to Brees' 4th NFL year. They traded Eli to NY for Rivers (after drafting Eli 1st overall), who held out the length of training camp - and Brees made his first Pro Bowl with a 12-4 record in his 4th NFL season. The 3 other guys I mentioned had to begin their careers in the CFL. I've heard commentators compare him to Russell Wilson but I don't think he'll be nearly as elusive at the next level as Russell is behind a suspect line. Russell Wilson, who is even shorter than Brees, Moon, Theisman and Garcia - got it quicker than all of them. This guy had to walk on to 2 different D-I programs before he got to beat all those programs saving their scholarships for players of less significance. Another guy that was only about 6' tall (Brian Sipe) was told he didn't have the arm strength to make it in this league. He's the only League MVP I've seen at our QB position in my life as a fan with a 3 year stretch of averaging more than 4000 yards passing in an era that was unheard of. I wouldn't hate this pick at all. He may be my favorite candidate before we draft. Josh Rosen. He's got a 3 year body of work with impressive stats. I've seen UCLA play 4 times this year. He only finished 2 of his 3 starts in those and they lost em both to Memphis and USC. He got hurt in the first half vrs Cal (with a bruised back) and they won. Then I saw some of their Bowl Game vrs KSU that he couldn't suit up for (due to another injury) and they lost. He's also had multiple concussions. Durability issues + our situation already has me reading in silly season that he hopes the Giants draft him and Dorsey isn't interested. Stay tuned... Josh Allen. Earlier in the year he struggled against opponents he probably needed to play better if he's to show bad NFL teams he's the right guy for their situation. In their loss 24-3 loss to Iowa he went 23-40 for 174 yds with 0 TD 2 INTs. In their 49-13 loss to Oregon, he completed 9 of 24 for 64 yds with 0 TD to 1 INT. In their 24-14 loss to Boise State he completed only 12 of 27 passes for 131 yds 1 TD and 2 INTs. Prior to the 1 game I did watch him play and look terrific, he had a TD:INT ratio of 13:6 in his final season at Wyoming. I've heard Todd McShay say he doesn't think it's nearly as easy for programs like Wyoming to re-stock their skill/play-maker positions as the elite big time programs, which impacted Allen's 2017 performance. All that said, he looked very good vrs Central Michigan going 11-19 for 154 yds and 3 TDs with 0 INTs. Very strong arm displayed on his first TD pass of the game with an accurate rope. He looks mobile and throws an accurate ball on the run at least in that game. I like his height too. When he faced more talented teams in 2017, did he ever escalate the play of his teammates to have a shot at beating any of them in the 4th quarter? That may not be a fair question but what's fair about taking snaps in Cleveland folks? Mason Rudolph. Great numbers, great career, strong arm, ideal frame as Oklahoma State won 10 games in each of his last 3 seasons. Gipper already pronounces his name Muh son because he loves the kid like a son. He's been pretty fun to watch over the years. I wouldn't mind this pick either. Lamar Jackson. I forgot to include him so I'll edit him into this discussion. Had a similar TD:INT ratio to that of Sam Darnold in 2016 with 30 TD to 9 INT. Scouts like his arm strength. Has decent height 6'3". He can scramble as we've seen but this makes his risk of survival risky at best. I read 1 scout said he's more raw than Patrick Mahomes coming out of Texas Tech a year ago. He wouldn't be my choice at #1 overall; but I've been wrong before. Looking forward to watching this all shake out.
  11. The bigger head scratcher is our FO choosing Crablegs over Fields. Crablegs threw 33 TDs to 30 INTs (barely a TD:INT ratio of 1:1)the year before they problem solved that with Tom Brady. I live in the region that covers TB so I saw a lot of those ending up as Pick 6s even though the guy threw for over 5000 yards. INTs (especially the pick 6s) are a killer as we saw in our playoff game. Fields is going to get a raising star at TE and a much improved running game Plus whatever WRs they they get in what looks like a deep WR draft. Chicago is so dumb - they'll probably give Pittsburgh DJ Moore for a bag of stale potato chips and a Walmart Cola.
  12. What were the Browns thinking overrating the crap out of Crablegs? We could have gotten a way better QB in Justin without giving up nearly that much. All this move cost Pittsburgh was a 6th round pick and maybe a 4th. This was a grand theft from a very stupid ownership/organization in Chicago. All that said, that Crablegs thread every bit as hilarious as it was outrageous so there it THAT!
  13. I had a REALLY SICK feeling the Bears would get this irresponsible. I hope they go 0-17. They already gave the Ravens Roquan Smith midway through 2022.
  14. Great job on that Dutch! I actually had Jackson Powers-Johnson because I liked the Guard Center thing. Then I remembered how much I liked Cooper Beebe for his experience at Guard and Tackle so I changed it. He's like a Paul Farren type of value if you remember him back in the 80s. Kinchens is the #1 rated Safety in my draft magazine. He has 11 INTs in the last 2 years and 59 tackles in each of those seasons. Stover is a great idea especially since we lost Harrison Bryant. I like your top run stuffer in the DT - that may be the coolest 1st name. Every time he stuffs a run - you can say "that's Maa son" in chorus with his dad. This stuff is fun!
  15. That jumps out at both of us about Safety.
  16. Nice job Gumbs! I'd LOVE Sweat at 54 but I feel like that would count on a lot of teams in front of us to be sound asleep at the wheel. Like your thinking on Nubin - I was doing mine while you did yours. I mentioned 1-2 weeks ago somewhere I wouldn't be surprised if we drafted RB Braelon Allen (or someone equivalent) in this draft since Chubb's work load will probably be restricted.
  17. Great idea Dutch! Before I start - make sure we keep in mind this is pick #54 (meaning it's only 10 picks away from round 3 so guys like Sweat, Harrison, Trotter, etc are out of reach): In random order: Troy Franklin, WR Oregon 6-3 187lbs - 81 rec 1383 yards 14 TDs in 2023 and 61 rec 891 yards 9 TDs in 2022 Brandon Dorlus, DT/DE Oregon 6-3 290lbs - Can play inside or outside like a Poor Man's Richard Seymore and productive at both. Cooper Beebe, OIL Kansas state 6-4 335lbs - Ferocious 4 year starter with great technique and polished fundamentals. Experience at Guard and Tackle on both sides. Only in the football sense - he warms my groins... Tyler Nubin, S Minnesota 6-2 210lbs - 4 year starter. Can play free safety or strong safety. The last 3 of his 4 years starting he ranged from 52-55 tackles. GREAT open-field tackler with 9 INTs 7 PBUs in the last 2 years and I love his frame almost as much as his football IQ. If gone, Calen Bullock, 6-3 USC 190lbs - 63 tackles 2 INTs 7 PBU in 2023 and 48 tackles 5 INTs 5 PBU Payton Wilson LB NC State 6-4 238lbs Great instincts, deceptive speed, good pass defender, great combine workout, 138 tackles and 6 INTs in 2023. Biggest concern is he's had some serious injuries in the past but not recent.
  18. I just had a Telepathic Interception on its way to a Pick 6 so this is The Calfox 20/20 Mock draft: Remember: Wide Receivers are the priority in a passing era! 2nd Round: Malachi Corley, WR Western Kentucky - Trust me - he's a great one! The 9 year old girl next-door told me I needed to watch him. I did more than that. I watched him play an entire quarter of football in 2023. Just 1 look is all it tooksies... 3rd Round: Michael Pratt, QB Tulane - 1st - he's white just like Flacco. 2nd - I haven't been this sure about a QB coming out of nowhere since I assured everyone Charlie Frye winning Senior Bowl MVP was no fluke - and he was ready to change everything in Cleveland. Furthermore, I was right and everyone was wrong when I assured them Josh Allen was going to be way better than Baker Mayfield. There's at least 500 posts you can go back and archive from me about that... 5th Round: Malik Washington, WR Virginia - He's not that tall at 5-8 but he weighs 194lbs. That's a lot of muscle all twitched up to be tapped. The hear-say gitchy, gitchy-goo about this kid is off the charts. 6th Round: Jha'Quan Jackson, WR Tulane - The name kind of makes him sound like we'd be sharing him with a gang - I wish he was white. That said - it's all about winning; which is exactly what he and the QB Michael Pratt (above) did together at Tulane. Getting both of these guys = instant chemistry. 7th Round: Drake Stoops, WR Oklahoma - Um, he's Bob Stoops' kid so even Tiamsies will agree with me on this one. Not only that, he's white like Brian Brennan and Gary Collins. We need some guys with brain cells on speaking terms out there.
  19. As soon as I posted we agreed on this - it became "Welcome to Philly Pickett!" 😆 Do I dare say I still think Pickett can become a good QB in this league without Canada sacking his chances to do so? Yes.
  20. Make Cleveland Great Again! Thank you Calsies!
  21. I think they'd both look adorable with red faces and strawberry blonde hair dressed in 1 extra large lawsuit.
  22. No wonder why you even need to bring your gun to Chuck E Cheese. Those little kids can be very intimidating...😁
  23. Nicks, I don't care how popular this is - you're a good guy. Never once have you been disrespectful to me even when I busted your balls. That said, when I do that - my intentions are to get you laughing as well. Most of the time your biggest enemy is yourself; and it's usually when you say something out of frustration (because we know the Browns can do that to any of us at 1 time or another). Coincidentally, in this thread about Baker Mayfield - I'm eating strawberry cheesecake. FWIW, I don't mind Cheesecakes Mayfield. Cal pretending he's always been a big fan of him is another story - and it's not exactly non-fictional.
  24. More excuses. And didn't Baker get 2 really easy wins against them in 2023? That was the worst division in football so now you want to count what he can do against the worst division in football as the tell-all? Ok... Any more cherry picking here? Hey I live in the Tampa area - I can pick you up a Baker Mayfield jersey if you want me to.
  25. Yeah, I forget how much Cheesecakes lit it up in Carolina. Let me guess, we don't count that? Mike Evans made Johnny Manziel a Heisman Trophy winner and a 1st round draft pick; and he elevated Baker to a 9-8 QB in the weakest division in football. The problem with Baker is every time he has a decent year - the next year is disappointing. His 1st in Cleveland was exciting. The 2nd year was a huge disappointment. The 3rd year, he had has his - "I'll prove who I am" mentality for all the disbelievers and he did that. The last year, he was back to the guy we saw in his 2nd year. Here's the thing - Baker was a 1st overall draft pick so there were a lot of reasons unbeknownst to us why not 1 single player was pissed off about the Browns decision to go in a different direction. Not 1. He lost the locker room and when that happens - the best thing for Baker being Baker is to take his "I'll show everyone what I can do" to another team. It didn't work Carolina. It worked a little bit in LA but not enough for them to retain him. And in Tampa, welcome to future HOF WR Mike Evans - it worked again. I'll say this - I did NOT agree with how the Browns handled it. I still don't. That said, the move benefitted Baker if he can start putting together back to back good seasons. More consistency on that and your intuitions will be rewarded about the guy. Somewhere in all this, let's hope you remember people STILL want to talk about the Cleveland Browns on their Cleveland Browns Board, not to be confused with the TB Bucs. I understand you don't want politics in here while we don't want to talk about the Bucs. Forcing that on us because Cal wants to go Rain Man announcing passing games need WRs is like asking the Native Americans to listen to people telling them Christopher Columbus discovered America multiple times a day. The Tampa Bay Bucs have a message board; and I'm certain they would enjoy more enthusiasts about their 9-8 football team than we do. I never hated the guy. I rooted for him every year he was here. I actually wanted us to draft Cheesecakes #1 overall while Cal did not. Your little buddy didn't root for him when he kept trying to post he was right that his Josh Allen was better than Baker Mayfield - especially in their second year.
