The Gipper
Aafc doesn't count in the nfl. It should because the browns entered the nfl and immediately dominated but it doesn't It does count. You are wrong. Read the fucking facts. It ain't that hard to read or to count. tml1138
Bullshit. It counts on what we call Planet Earth. Did you see the link? I'm curious about which part of the link you are referring to that makes it count. Don't worry, I count them. I noticed one part which stated this: In 1948, the Browns became the first professional football team to complete an entire season undefeated and untied — 24 years before the 1972 Miami Dolphins of the NFL would accomplish the task, but this feat is not recognized by NFL record books. Unlike the AFL statistics which are treated as NFL statistics, records of the AAFC and its teams (most of which folded) are not recognized. However, individual AAFC player statistics are included in Pro Football Hall of Fame records, and the defunct conference is memorialized in the Hall. Seems contradictory to me. Also, Packers and Bears have more championship wins, but they are NFC teams.

Also, Packers and Bears have more championship wins, but they are NFC teams. It is not contradictory. I have given this story before any number of times. It all comes down to the petty jealousy and resentment of one guy: Bert Bell Owner of the Philadelphia Eagles and NFL Commissioner at the time. Recall that the AAFC started in 1946. The AAFC was right off actually more popular than the NFL. It got bigger crowds. It paid its players more. It included black players where mostly the NFL would not. Despite all this...the NFL looked down its nose at the AAFC....thinking it was superior. There was a proposal in both 1947 and 1948 to do a "World Series of Football" Game featuring the winner of the AAFC...the Browns and the winner of the NFL.....which in the case of 1948 was Bell's Eagles. Bell refused to have his team/league participate. While the AAFC was probably better, it was not as sound financially....and the domination by the Browns of that league actually turned people off....because who would win was a foregone conclusion. So, the AAFC/NFL merger occurred for the 1950. Finally, Bert Bell and the Eagles could not avoid the Browns, which were one of 3-4 teams that merged with NFL teams or were taken in. Bell thought that his team was by far the superior and that he would show the upstart Browns by slaughtering them on opening day of the 1950 season. Well, yes, a slaughter did take place. The Browns spanked the Eagles like a red headed step child. Bell was embarassed at having boasted how much better the NFL and its teams were than the AAFC and the Browns......but of course they were not better. The Browns were the superior force in football....going on to appear in 6 of the next 7 NFL title games. But due to Bells' bitterness and resentment over that loss of prestige for his team and himself, he still had the power to issue edicts concerning certain matters pertaining to league business. So he declared that the AAFC records and statistics would not be recognized.....and no commish to this date has had the balls to overturn that decision. But that is what the is all about. The Browns would have and did kill every NFL champ in the 1946-1950 period. The only team that would have been a good match and might have had a chance to beat the Browns were the 1946 Bears. The 1947 Cards and the 1948/49 Eagles would have been chum for the Browns. Bell knew that as well....and did the only thing in his power to fuel his resentful and bitter attitude. I feel like it would be a good game depending on how the offense is with Johnny. You're defense is very formidable. It would be a much better game than alot of people think, in my opinion. Tour2ma
I will say (Hoyer) looked and sounded MUCH better yesterday, than he did earlier in the week. In a way, I think he's disappointed, but also has a sense of relief(not that he wanted it) now that the pressure is off......once the anger and disappointment subsides, I think he'll be fine.. More disappointment, but I hear you and hearing Brian, I think you nailed it with your "relief" theory. The whole home town thing had to weigh on him. Plus while we talk about rookies wearing down by the length of their first Pro season, same applies to Brian. It's not like he's done it before. It a combination of things that would lead me to believe that after a respite, if we had to call upon him again, then he'd answer the bell with better efforts than we've seen of late. Hoping we don't have to find out, but it would not surprise me. Looking at his footwork, I don't think he's comfortable with his knee yet. I wouldn't be shocked if he left and lit it up for somebody else. (Hoyer) Possible... I think it's more a confidence factor, but if he has been playing hurt, it's just another thing that a respite should help. You Aggies fans paying attention? This is how you come into someone else's house. I hate the Patriots and I hope they lose every game they play. I hope Brady finds out that Gronk is banging Gisele and they get into a fistfight in the middle of the field on Sunday. I hope Belichick is exposed in a massive cheating scandal and they retroactively take all of his Super Bowl titles away. Nonetheless, welcome to the board Pats_Fan93. Here's to a Browns/Pats AFC championship one day (in which the Browns win 103-0 and Belichick breaks down in tears) Brutal Dawg, just brutal... I mean have a heart man, it's been almost a full decade since Pats' fans last won a Super Bowl... After reading all this crap I have come to the decision that you're all a bunch of Johhny-come-lately-fanboys. :P Except Tour-he at least has the balls to be a skeptic still. TexasAg1969
We call them DumbAss Texan fans. Because, well, they ARE from Texas.....and also because they were too dumb to come up with an original name. I mean, what is a Texan.....just some that lives within the confines of certain boundaries. It would have been as silly as saying the "Cleveland Ohioans"....or some such. The least they could have done was called themselves what it was back when Texas was a country (1836-45). Texians. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texians My great, great grandpa was one of those and has a "Citizen of the Republic of Texas" marker on his gravesite put there by the state.
