Means Tomlinson plays more 3tech

Can you imagine this exchange?

Ika:  Hey Coach, you want me in a 1 technique?

Schwartz: Yes, I want you lining up in a 1, 2, 3 and 4 technique at the same time.  That's why we drafted you. Just don't fart on my linebackers.

I will admit... I'm not high on the first pick... Here come the Clowns again taking injury riddled players... Fuckers never learn... Always trying to cut corners on certain positions... ass hats!

Amazing how different certain picks are viewed. CBS has the Ika pick as a C-, whereas Sporting News gives it an A+.

Somewhere in between would be more reasonable. The tools are there, but it remains to be seen whether he can get more athletic, and contribute to the pass rush. Otherwise, we may have drafted the next "Refrigerator Perry."

Or.............................................ta da.............................the last great fat ass IDL! with similar measurables. Also 3rd round pick. Deja vu all over again? Edit: I had not heard the comments on Shelton until after I posted this.

OBR wrapup podcast has some good points:

1) Tillman was analyst [prior player] Steve Smith's top WR sleeper in the draft

2) Tillman could be AC replacement if they choose to resign DPJ and let AC walk

3) Our long national nightmare of Anthony Schwartz is over -- Bell is somehow WR5 now

4) One of Tillman's weaknesses is releases.. One of the NFL's release gurus is Amari Cooper

Might double dip back into the Dline.  LB, TE and then Oline depth with RB as the cherry on top.

My day 3 RB picks are still sitting there.

If Ika becomes an immobile tank and a certain 3rd round RB we didn't trade up to get becomes a long distance nightmare like his teammate Tyreek, well you know who will be back multiple times like he was with the Browns taking a certain departed & Og - forgetable - Bah DL instead of RB nightmare Derrick Henry.

And if that happens will we finally see the departure of Homey Depot?

I like the picks.

Tillman was widely viewed as a 1st round selection before he got hurt last season.  People need to also remember that Tillman was the #1 for the Vols, not Hyatt.

As for the mountain of a man at DT, any time you have a player who can eat up 2 blockers, you call that a win.  His stats might not impress the narrow minded, but the stats of somebody else are going to improve.

Backs don't like running around DT's where the hole is supposed to be.

too bad the browns didn't pay attention to the wr group in previous years to help previous quarterbacks. They traded for one, signed one, and now drafted one.

Cedric only ? runs a 4.54, has trouble getting off the los, etc.

Ika is a very big man - might have quicker feet than Danny Shelton.

too bad Ika was actually compared to Danny Shelton on TV when the Browns drafted him.

Maybe they will end up doing a good job. Not sure if they improved their team much at all.

Yeah, the ratings/grades/projections varied quite a bit from 1 source to another.  Some sites were almost guaranteeing Darnell Washington climbed into the first round after the Combines.

As for Ika, I'm guessing we're going to use the college NT more like a Bob Golic (2 gap) here than a Michael Dean Perry (1 gap).  He'll be a guy that stuffs the run and ties up more than 1 blocker, which will be very refreshing for the LBers here.

I'm not worried about Ika's combine results.  Orlando Brown Jr's Combine results were a disaster everywhere but the wing span.  Today, he has a resume that includes 4 Pro Bowls which included some as a RT and others as a LT.  Not bad for a guy that couldn't out bench press teenagers selling girl scout cookies... Sometimes it just gets right down to - if you can play, you can play.

And if Archane isn't what you believe, then it'll be crickets.  Sort of like with Ogbuehi, who is now one of the worst tackles in the NFL.  Or with Leal, who had an abysmal showing at several positions as a rookie even before being injured.  Ifedi became a complete afterthought, Wydermyer hasn't logged a single catch as a pro after being passed around 3 teams, and holy fuck balls was Kenyon Green probably the worst lineman for Houston.

I know you love your Aggies and carry it with pride, but check the trolling - and especially the score keeping - at the door.

Don't worry your sweet little heart, if the Bucs running game is anything like it was this past season for Brady, then Baker will have plenty of receivers to disappoint this upcoming season.

Definitely not a three down player. Now now not ever.  He hopefully impacts 20 plays a game and of those 20 hopefully most are obvious runs downs.   Give me a TFL and eating two blockers consistently and this is a home run pick.

They brought Jarvis Landry here for him; and it helped a lot!  They also brought OBJ here for the same reason even though that didn't work out nearly the same.  The Browns drafted Donovan Peoples-Jones who had good chemistry with Baker; and they already had Hollywood Higgins.  Aside from that, TE David Njoku was a 1st round TE that was already here.  The Browns later added a Mackey Award winner Harrison Bryant; so let's stop pretending there wasn't any effort toward the passing game.

Whether this was a good pick or a swing and miss - the effort of a 10th overall pick went for a Left Tackle in the draft in 2020.

You've gotta keep in mind, these are 3rd round picks.  It's a crap-shoot.  At that point and beyond, they're not gonna be really good in every category.  Those guys go in the 1st round.  They see talent in Tillman.  They will try and improve his weaknesses.  Maybe he turns out good.  Maybe not.  Maybe that kid Hyatt that the Dolphins jumped up in front of us to get is the good one.  Maybe he's not.

In what would normally be called the 4th round (pick 98) they picked a DT that nickers says looks like he can tackle people.  That's a spot of need...but it's the 4th round...it's a crap shoot.  At least they're shooting the crap at the positions that we need the most help at.

Glad you mentioned that, because it becomes a focused topic of conversation.

Why Is his release bad?

- Like I mentioned when he was drafted, not a fan of the splits and stacks the Vols use. They tend to scare coordinators away from being more aggressive with their DBs.  As a result, WRs tend to get more free releases and an easier time into the pattern.  Means you lose a lot of needed live reps on how to beat corners off the line in various ways with your hands and feet.   When you're so used to just taking off cleanly, it becomes a different world when you hit the NFL or any other offensive system in college.

This can be taught, but it isn't an overnight thing.

- Is the poor release from a lack of first step quickness?  His 10 yard split looks good enough, so I'd have to pour through his film to see how his laterally agility works without a 3 cone or shuttle available.   But a 37inch vert also points to good initial burst.

That part, being faster, can be a matter of professional conditioning and training to tighten movement and reduce wasted motion.  But at the end of the day, you mostly are what you are in that department.

For big guys like that, combine results are fairly meaningless.  Seriously, if you think he is going to be chasing guys down over 10 yards or more, you are an idiot.  If you are wanting 12 sacks out of the guy, you are an idiot.

So, speed and agility numbers don't really matter.  His ability to jump high or far don't matter.  What matters is his ability to control about 3 yards of space to each side and push the pocket towards the QB about 5 yards.   Ifhe does that, he has done what we expect and need.

If people expect him to be Aaron Donald, well, they are idiots.

I'm ok with the picks, not being in the 1st round takes the fun out of it. Then seeing Steelers and Ravens making good picks ahead of us sucks, but nothing new.

This draft didn't interest me too much. Not just because of where we were picking but also because it all hinges on how well Watson plays this year. He doesn't have to be crazy good, just good enough to earn his keep.

Rule of Thumb: If there's guys I really want the Browns to draft - they're going to be drafted by the Steelers or Rats (ie; Darnell Washington and Keeanu Benton).  Previously the Rats drafted Mark Andrews, Orlando Brown and JK Dobbins.

I found a source for some all-22 on the vols.  Ceddy's injuries concern me, but I can't help but draw a parallel to another receiver I loved that he just looks like on the field.

 Here's some hints.

The fuckin Steelers killed it. Supposed "beasts" at 3 positions ...a TE, some DT from Wisconsin, and an OT.

Disagree about Watson. He's paid to be crazy good.
