Actually they might. The MSM will turn on democrats at times when it is what the democrat establishment wants them to do. In this case with Biden appearing to be more senile daily they are having buyers remorse. There are lots of calls now for New York governor Cuomo to run for president. They don't want Sanders  but a lot of democrats are looking at Cuomo. I don't think they would mind at all seeing Biden replaced by Cuomo.

Whatever? If I'm wasting my time with you, OBF, please let me know.

A wave off and a subject change is what I'd expect from Kal, but I thought you were better than that... that you actually had a degree of openness.

WHO is a science-based organizations. Their words have meaning. "No clear evidence" does not mean the was "no evidence". So there's that...

Chinese authorities in Wuhan Province tried to conceal the outbreak from their own national gov't. And as a result, yes, it got out of hand. But once Bejing was on it, the info flow opened wide. This included teh sharing of the first virus isolates with major Labs around the world... including our CDC.

I'll see your "whatever" and raise you a "you've got to be kidding me?"

"Test of Wuhan" in the title doesn't make sense... and the article makes even less.

FYI chloroquine is one of dozens of drugs FDA labelled for other uses that are going thru clinical, Covid-19 trials. The drug candidates have been identified thru normal protocols and are being tested per normal procedures.

Scientists Identify 69 Drugs to Test Against the Coronavirus

Trump did proclaim chloroquine "FDA aproved for Covid" the other day in a presser... it's not... it's in a trial just like the other drugs.

As for game-changing... jury is still out, but one early trial was not promising.

But the above is preliminary. As is another small test in India  that similarly showed no benefit.

Current US testing includes thousands of patients. The WHO is also doing a mega study.

Not responsible... that's the wrong word... a word I took it off the table in my first reply in this thread as regards Trump. So no responsibility for Oz either.

However, if Oz were as careless in his words... as fulsome in his embrace as Trump was then, yes, Oz's "blame" for the couple taking the pills would be even greater because Oz should know better.

Of course the wife did not name Dr. Oz, did she?

Blame comes in degrees... Do you believe Trump is completely blameless?

I would agree with the statement below

"The president was certainly wrong to create any expectation, at this early juncture, about hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin. But contrary to what the woman suggested to reporters, Trump did not endorse all forms of chloroquine as safe. What she consumed wasn't even medicine—it was chloroquine phosphate, a form of the chemical used in fish tank cleaner. As Reason's Elizabeth Nolan Brown wrote this morning, "It hardly seems Trump's fault that this couple took his statements to mean that drinking any old thing with chloroquine in it could help them."

I hear ya, OBF, but bear this in mind... debt of this magnitude would have likely been generated anyway had we fallen into a Covid Depression. Such would have been the depth and breadth of the economic contraction. Difference is that it would come with a lot more Societal pain. And contracting gov't would not be an option... it would only compound the downward spiral.

Also of some solace is that while some parts of this package are "forgiven", others are true loans that will be paid back albeit it at low or no interest.

My concern? Inflation on the backside of this mess. We just had to goose the hell out of this economy and that's a lot of money we are fixing to set loose.

Maybe those 70"s WIN buttons will be making a comeback?

  5. I for one am concerned about the national debt. Maybe we had to do this stimulus but shame on any politician adding wish list goodies. The entire stimulus should have been soley for coronavirus related issues. We are heavily in debt already. Maybe this is money we need to spend but it is still money from an already maxxed out credit card. As everyone knows running up debt on the credit card never ends well.

After Nevada's governor banned doctors from prescribing hydroxychloroquine for covid 19  it didn't seem a stretch another governor would do the same but glad to see that is not the case with NY.

In Nevada's case I don't believe it was a political decision at all by the governor I just think he is wrong and misguided.

I think they should have "oversight" on individuals too.

no drugs, no alcohol, no twinkies, no pop, no cake, no chippies or dip,

just good healthy lunches that the dems demand that nobody will eat.

Woody won't even eat the boiled asparagus. I won't either.

    but it would be fair.

oversight means power to contol, power to wield over people with, to dems.

We are spoiled though. If we were hungry enough boiled asparagus would taste like filet mignon.

I saw where some states including Ohio are limiting prescriptions for Hydroxychloroquine to patients who actually have covid 19 and not for people using it as a preventative. This makes sense to me. If we have limited amounts then save it for those who actually need it.

No doubt bud. The entire thing is Trump's fault. Not only here foot worldwide. So, aside from bitching about it being called the Chinese flu, where does anyone suggest we go from this point? Martial law? Forced incarceration forced testing and immediate execution and cremation of anyone found with the virus? The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few?

    WSS

The fault is with the Chinese. When they knew they had a major problem with a flu spread instead of contacting the WHO and bringing in medical experts they arrested those who tried to warn about the flu. When the world finally found out about what was going on in Wuhan China they had a full blown crisis on their hands. Now we have a world wide flu pandemic.

that is awesome ! His scowl is weird though. You walked into a film shoot. LOL

I actually thought it might be Rock Hudson but I was fresh out of boot camp and I wasn't going to take any chances of not saluting an Admiral. When he scowled at me I figured he took offense that I didn't recognize the "great" Hollywood actor.

Apparently they had just filmed Rock Hudson's scene as I looked back and watched him go into a trailer. When I went around the corner they were filming a scene with his co star at the time Susan St. James.

Best I can tell looking at story line and time period I would bet they were filming this episode....OK looks like Rock wasn't an Admiral just an officer...but I was pretty fresh out of bootcamp...he still looked like someone a Seaman apprentice should be saluting.

Who else said it on TV, OBF?

Dr. Oz for one was saying on television that hydroxychloroquine was possibly a game changer. If the couple had heard Dr. Oz saying this on television instead of Trump and took the fish tank cleaner would Dr. Oz be responsible? I'm sorry the man lost his life but he made a huge mistake on his own.

I know even without clinical trials or going through all the hoops to get this drug approved for coronavirus if I had a severe coronavirus symptoms and no other options out there I would take the hydroxychloroquine and zpac without hesitation.

There is nothing in the "article" regarding who is writing the scripts. Nothing in the article regarding the severity of illness in those seeking the use of the drug.

It is available... just not thru your family Dr... and not for those who are not severely ill.

There is a FDA process for emergency, off-label usage of drugs in life-threatening situations.

Remember Fen Phen? Two registered pharmaceuticals some Dr's believed when Rx'd in combo produced weight loss?

The only valid reason I can see for this governor doing this is if there is hoarding going on and possibly malaria patients who need the drug may not have it. There are other ways to prevent that without the governor totally banning doctors from writing prescriptions for the drug. In normal times we would like to have more testing of hydroxychloroquine but these are emergency times especially for those with severe symptoms of coronavirus.

Well actually the phosphate version is also a registered form of the malaria drug... so there's that. Also comes in a sulfate form...

The difference is the grade of the compound and likely the other fillers in the capsules.

Not that it's surprising but all the reflexive Trump protectors miss the point of the post, of the article.

The point is in an attempt to play the role of a cheerleading, Chemist in chief Trump lead these unfortunate souls to take a non-medical grade form of the drug he has touted repeatedly in his Corona Pressers.

Those of us with chemistry backgrounds heard Trump say "some add hydroxy to it... call it hydroxychloroquine," and we laughed knowing he had no idea that "adding hydroxy" did not reflect just the creation of an alternate name, a nickname, but reflected additional step or steps in the synthesis of a compound. But since he cannot tolerate the thought of appearing to know less than anyone else in the room on any topic...

    Anyway...

Is Trump directly responsible for the man's death? No... he did not make the couple take the fish tank cleaner, but neither is he completely without blame.

    It's in the wife's words...

    • She heard Trump talk about the drug.... talk about how the drug was "safe"... talk about the drug being a "game changer."
    • She remembered the name from the koi pond use.

I'm sorry this person lost his life but it is a stretch to blame it on Trump.

There are doctors and medical experts as well who believe the drug could be a game changer and said it on television and I wouldn't fault these doctors for the man taking the fish tank cleaner either.

  15. Teva to send US millions of malaria pills with potential to help COVID-19

Israeli generic drug giant Teva announced Friday that it will provide ten million doses of its anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine, which could potentially prove effective in fighting the coronavirus pandemic, to US hospitals free of charge.

The company said six million doses will be delivered to US hospitals by March 31, and more than ten million in a month.

This new bill does not allow any monies to go to any of the Trump empire's companies, nor does it allow companies it does go to use it to shell out to execs or dividend payments. That's a main point the Dems held out for which includes an inspector general with major oversight powers. Also can't get hand picked to go to companies that support trumpy only. That was what they were really after to drive the Donald crazy. No soup for him!😁

Nancy Pelosi tried to load up the bill with her democratic wish list but she failed...

We absolutely know it's the case, because it's already happening

I knew that if there was any hoarding it would not be by the masses but had to be by doctors (dentists surprised me). If the doctors are hoarding this drug for themselves and their families that should tell you something about what they believe about the drug's effectiveness. That said they should not be hoarding either when it could cost the lives of others.

For now they need to figure out what is necessary for malaria and lupus patients and then anything extra goes for coronavirus patients with severe symptoms. And maybe that is the answer to doctors and dentists who are hoarding. These prescriptions are to go to sick coronavirus patients only. I would like to see any punishment go to doctors abusing prescriptions and not see critically ill coronavirus patients suffer with an outright ban from a governor.

  18. Just now, jbluhm86 said:

So on the one hand, you'd have me, with severe, life threatening symptoms of coronavirus, who MAY be saved by hydroxychloroquine. On the other hand, you have another patient with lupus or malaria who WILL die unless he/she receives hydroxychloroquine treatment, but there's not enough to go around. Who's case is more compelling when you balance us out on the scale?

First of all we don't even know if that would be the case. The idea of hoarding this drug? By whom? Only doctors could prescribe it. Dr. Fauci himself said he would take hydroxyclhoroquine if he had severe symptoms of coronavirus.

If we want to go with your argument then set aside the amount of the drug needed for those with lupus and malaria to save their lives and use any left over for those with severe coronavirus symptoms but the governor should not be making an outright ban for doctors to prescribe this drug when it may be the coronavirus's patients only hope of survival.

  19. 2 hours ago, jbluhm86 said:

Most promising treatment =/= best PROVEN treatment.

Again, you're short-changing and potentially killing thousands of people with other diseases who depend on hydroxychloroquine to survive because other people made a run on the drug because of claims of effectiveness that are inconclusive at best. It's not even close to being demonstrated to be effective at treatment of COVID-19, and it's a finite resource, so it absolutely makes sense to restrict its off label use until conclusively proven otherwise.

You recently thought you had the coronavirus and you didn't. Lets say you lived in Nevada and you did have severe life threatening symptoms of coronavirus. I don't know about you but I would want to make the decision myself about taking hydroxychloroquine over the governor making the decision for me.

  20. Just now, jbluhm86 said:

    Why is this unbelievable?

The testing of hydroxychloroquine's effectiveness in treating COVID-19 is in the preliminary phase, and initial results are inconclusive at best, and no statistical difference at worst.

Meanwhile, hydroxychloroquine has a proven track record in treating other diseases like malaria and lupus. And because of the exaggerated rumors about hydroxychloroquine and COVID-19, there have been individuals and corporations who've began to buy out the supplies of it, depriving people with malaria and lupus of it.

So, you stop the off label use of a limited stock medicine that might not even be effective at treating COVID-19 and save it for the use of patients with diseases who have been proven to be effective in treating said diseases.

Despite what that far-right dish rag that you posted as a source said, it's not TDS. It's just common sense.

The patient or the patients family should make the call not the governor that is why. We are supposed to be in a crisis and we are a year away from a vaccine and the best and most promising drug should be available upon a patient's request.
